" knock, knock. " - arachne
it was late in the night. possibly, even early morning. the hallways echoed with nothing but small creeks of the structure settling in the knight. it was easy for the paladin to sleep heavy during most nights. it seemed as though tonight was not most nights.
restful in his bed, had awoken quickly by sharp quiet knocks. whoever was at his door must've heard him rustling out of bed. aurelius lit his lamp, rising it until it's brightness touched each corner of room.
aurelius rubbed the sleep from his eyes, making sure he looked as awake as can be before opening the door. a sweet smile met his tired lips when his eyes laid on her. ❝oh, good evenin', arachne —❞ he began, moving to lean his arm against the doorframe. until, her next actions stopped him in his tracks. the passionate kiss took him by pleasant surprise.
his chest thumbed quickly, awakening him more by the second. with no protest, he places his hands on her cheeks. pulling her in and returning the passionate kiss back against her lips with equal intention. ❝ — 'd question if i was dreamin’, but if this is a dream, then dinnae pinch me. ❞ aurelius breathed out before initiating the second kiss.

FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC: THE ORIGIN (2022)
Arachne could confidently say she’s never attended a ball like this before. She’s been to some before, as guest and entertainment but the Embers only fit into that scene when it was necessary. They found more comfort in festivals and other parties as such. This was a Lathandeian ball. There was no such event for Umberlants, the Tides did not call for dancing and gowns and ballyhoo.
Regardless of all of that, the Tiefling was excited. She was excited for her dear friend Karma to learn more about her past: in hopes she’d feel some comfort about it and be able to forge the path she truly wanted for herself. And she was excited for her beloved, Aurelius. This was his world. She’d known of his devotion since the first time they spoke, and he did speak of his parents - now it was time to see it all firsthand. And who didn’t enjoy a beautiful gown and dancing? Especially if she finished the evening in the arms of a beautiful paladin.
It would be part of their happy ending. She had meant all that she said back in the Shadow-cursed lands. Arachne wanted to build a future with Aurelius, no matter what it looked like. The stakes were higher and the world a lot scarier even if they were free of the shadows, she just had to say a silent prayer that their futures still aligned after this. “And yet again you find me.” She smiled. He said he always would. The laugh was endearing and now in the light she could see fully how beautiful he looked blushing. She made it down to him and she reached up gently to adjust his attire, “I’d rather look at you.” The bard hummed, “we’ve got time for you to get used to it.” Her own cheeks were flushed now. “Do I really look okay?” She asked, her hand still nervously fiddling with a part of his coat. “I will admit I am a bit nervous- feeling a lot less braver than I was..”
aurelius gently placed his hand over hers — the one nervously tugging at the edge of his coat — and stilled it with his own. there was no mistaking the look in his eyes. he was in awe of her, plain and true, and that soft smirk still tugged at his lips as she asked if she looked okay. she wasn’t just okay. she was radiant. ❝look okay?❞ he echoed, voice low. ❝what i said holds true, mo chridhe. ye put the dawn itself to shame.❞ his eyes searched her face with quiet reverence. ❝i’ve seen statues and temples built for saints and queens meant t’capture beauty — none o’ them hold a candle to ye. ye’re the most beautiful woman i’ve ever laid eyes on. not just in this moment, but in every moment after this.❞ he lifted her hand and kissed the back of it, thumb brushing her knuckles, not letting go.
he didn’t blame her for the nerves. this was his world, too. and even now, after all this time, it still struck something sharp in him before moments like these. he understood the weight of it all — the pressure, the fate of the realm pressing down on every step. ❝i understand. it’s a lot.❞ his voice was soft. ❝ye don’t need t’be brave tonight. don’t need t’perform. ye’re here to enjoy it, that’s all.❞ he smiled at her with tenderness and confidence. ❝and if ye need to slip away, say the word — i’ll go with ye. no questions.❞
aurelius took both her hands in his, and despite the nerves still thudding in his chest, his gaze held nothing but warmth.❝what do ye need from me now, mo chridhe?❞ because whatever this night held, whatever came after, he had her at his side. they were stepping into each other’s worlds. and that, to him, made it all worth it.

If it were possible for a soul to feel sore, Rigby's sure did. Every muscle in his body ached, he was exhausted and even his own family were getting on his nerves. He dreamed of the city. How much he missed it; the people, the food, his home. He was broken from his thoughts by the paladin making his way over.
Rigby didn't share the same hostility towards him that his brother did. To be frank, Rigby thought that someone should just punch Ellis, it would rattle him enough. "Much appreciated." He grinned, taking the stein from him. "I think I will need about four more." He admitted with a laugh before clinking glasses with him. "I see they went on ahead without you. That for any reason?" He asked.
"I cannot wait." Like all his sibling, he wanted to go home. That's why he had set off on his adventure in the first place, to find his family and bring them home. He just had to hope there was a home to return to after all this. "Perhaps. I miss the feeling, using musical spells only curbs the need for performance for so long." He turned to him, "and what of you? Where will you be when this is all over?"
aurelius took a slow sip after clinking glasses with rigby, his raised eyebrows and quiet laugh making it clear he could’ve used four more of these too. the weight pressing on him grew heavier yet lighter in certain areas as they neared baldur’s gate. he was eager to reach the end of their quest for all their sakes. when rigby mentioned his men moving on without him, he shrugged with ease. ❝aye, told ’em t’carry on. more reasons than one,❞ he said with a smirk, ❝they know the way back.❞
there were the obvious two reasons. karma and arachne. with karma, aurelius had finally found the sister he’d thought lost to the world and he'd vow to fight by her side, no matter what. with arachne… gods, he’d fallen hard. a man of his word, he’d vowed to her with the weight of the most sacred oath that he wouldn’t be going anywhere. they had a safe future together, and a promising present.
the golden eyed paladin listens closely to the bard's words. the soft smile on his face still lingered. he could only imagine how they'd missed the stage from the stories he'd heard. ❝reckon we’ll be at elfsong soon enough once we’re in. ye might even get the chance t’give it a go when we’re needing a rest.❞ at the next one, he smirks with confidence before speaking. ❝once karma’s sorted wi’ whatever she chooses, i’m goin’ wherever arachne goes.❞
