The Knockout Bra
You may have spent a fortune on gym membership and invested in a great new kit.
But it's more than likely that you're missing the most vital piece of exercise equipment of all - a sports bra.
Despite the current boom in the leisure industry, three quarters of women in Britain wear the wrong type of bra for working out.
You may wonder what all the fuss is about. But the facts speak for themselves.
Breasts are mostly composed of fatty tissue and are supported mainly by skin and fragile ligaments called Coopers' ligaments. Because these are not elastic, during repetitive or high impact sport the breasts bounce and pull on the ligaments, forcing them to stretch. Once these ligaments have stretched they stay this way. The result is every woman's nightmare - sagging breasts.
Going without the correct support can also cause breast pain and upper back and shoulder problems.
Running without any bra at all causes the average woman's breasts to move up and down by 8.5cm. Wearing an ordinary bra reduces this by 32 per cent. A sports bra reduces this by at least another 20 per cent.
A survey from Herriot-Watt University last year showed that even breasts sized 34A need extra support during sport.
'British women are in serious danger of permanently damaging and stretching their breast ligaments,' said a spokesman from CCR a body sizing and research specialist company. 'Long term problems are likely to occur if a correctly fitting, supportive sports bra is not worn.
Here is the femail.co.uk guide to choosing and fitting the right sports bra
Sports bras were only invented in 1977 when two women invented a joggers bra by sewing two jockstraps together. Now there are several companies producing increasingly sophisticated models.
There are two basic types: those which compress the breasts flat against the chest - which look like crop tops - and those which hold the breasts in the same way as a normal bra. As a general rule, compression-style bras offer enough support for women with breasts sized 32 -34A doing all forms of exercise and 34-36B for low-impact sports. For everyone else, the second type of bra is more suitable.
How the Illusion Bra came to Life
Bra-making Sew Along
In 2013 I hosted the Bra-making Sew Along, and it has remained a popular resource for bra-making! The sew along ran for a little over three weeks, during which I walked through the basic process of fitting and sewing your own bra pattern.
During this sew-along, we worked with patterns with a full frame (also known as a “full band” bra). Some of the patterns I used for demonstration are no longer in production but since then many new patterns have come on the market, including my own line of bra patterns! With a little imagination, many of the steps in this sew-along can apply to any bra pattern.
No matter what pattern you try, bras require some time to fit and shape to your specific needs, so keep at it!
2017 Fashion Show
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is an annual show sponsored by and featuring Victoria's Secret, a brand of lingerie and sleepwear. Victoria's Secret uses the show to promote and market its goods in high-profile settings. The show features some of the world's leading fashion models such as current Victoria's Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Lily Aldridge, Elsa Hosk, Jasmine Tookes, Josephine Skriver, Lais Ribeiro, Martha Hunt, Romee Strijd, Sara Sampaio, Stella Maxwell, and Taylor Marie Hill.
American network television broadcasts the show during prime time. The first few shows in the 1990s were held in the days preceding Valentine's Day to promote the brand for this holiday. They were not aired on national television. In 1999 and 2000 the show was webcast. Beginning in 2001, the shows were moved ahead of the Christmas holiday season. Also in 2001, the show made its network television broadcast on ABC, though in all subsequent years, it has been broadcast on CBS. The show has been held at a variety of locations in different cities including Miami, Los Angeles, Cannes, Paris, and London. The first four shows were held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City, but since it has become a televised event it has most often been held at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City.
The show is a lavish event with elaborate costumed lingerie, varying music by leading entertainers, and set design according to the different themes running within the show. The show attracts hundreds of celebrities and entertainers, with special performers and acts every year. Each year, twenty to forty of the world's top fashion models are selected to perform in the fashion show. In a typical year, this includes about a half dozen women under contract to the company,[1] known as Victoria's Secret Angels, who help publicize the event. The giant angel wings worn by the models, as well as other wings of various forms and sizes such as butterfly, peacock, or devil wings, have become emblematic of the brand.

LEARN WHY THE ANGELS LOVE OUR TIGHTS
“These leggings were incredibly comfortable throughout my workout: They hugged all the right places and fit my proportions well. I prefer styles with a high rise that hits right below the belly button and that aren’t so long that they bunch. I liked the cool stripes down the side, and when you pair these leggings with the matching sports bra, you complete the athleisure vibe. For my activewear wardrobe, Monday Active is the perfect combo of sporty and chic that can take me from the gym straight to brunch on the weekend.” —Alexis Parente, fashion assistant
