Starting Over || Cam & Vince
The sudden movements he made in his sleep woke her, and she jumped a bit when he jerked awake. Remaining quiet and feigning sleep so as not to startle him further, she was surprised when he hugged her to him. For a moment she froze. Not literally, she was relatively sure she was still at room temperature, but she couldn’t bring herself to move. Part of her was screaming that she couldn’t rest, she couldn’t slow down and enjoy this, she had things to do. But another part of her remembered what he’d told her a few days before, and she wondered what he’d been dreaming about. Had it been a nightmare? Reliving the losses he’d endured? She wasn’t sure, and was afraid to ask.
Cammy looked up at him, eyes wide with surprise, just in time to notice him wipe his face. She bit her lip, unsure of how to address the situation. Instead of letting him know she noticed his reaction, she stretched, uncramping the muscles that had been stressed by the strange contours of the couch. Rubbing her eyes, she wondered what to do. Finally, she opted to rest her chin on his chest and poke him in the arm. “You okay?”
It took him a few minutes to realize Cameron had been talking to him. His mind was too engulfed by long buried feelings and things he was sure he'd made himself forget. Idly, his fingers stroked through her long, soft hair and something in the movement. Vince had a hard time easing his grip on her but the dream messed with his emotions.
"Yeah," he whispered. Vince intended to speak at a normal level but part of his voice choked at the back of his throat.
Without thinking about it, Vince kissed the top of Cameron's head and slid carefully from beneath her body. He also needed to stretch but it was only an after thought. The faint sound of the ocean beyond his building was calling him. It took Vince a few seconds to realize more tears fell at the sound of the ocean hitting him full force.
"I had a dream and I'm not quite sure what to do with it," he leaned against the frame to the sliding glass door.
