“ YOU KNOW, THAT’S a good point. What spectacular things have you done? I’m having a tough time jogging my memory. ”
‘ — honestly, kal can’t i just -- at least -- get through my main course before you shred me of any pride i may have ??
❝ Is that a challenge? Because it sounds like one. ❞
‘ no, that was me telling you to fuck off.
SHE SHOT VIC in the face a wry look and nudged his foot under the table. Behave. “ I’m not sure anyone would believe you even if you did repeat those. ”
‘ — hm ?? well, i can hardly blame them. i have done some pretty spectacular things, y’know, I probably wouldn’t believe them either.
Ambitious was one way of putting it. Insane was another. Sure she was hungry, but there was no way she’d manage to eat all twelve donuts. And while they were certainly delicious, they didn’t exactly keep for very long.
She shook her head at her own stubbornness as she paid for all of the donuts. Stupid, stubborn, prideful Malia. What the hell was she supposed to do now. She glanced at the man, then back to the donuts, then back again, offering what she hoped was an apologetic smile.
❝Help me?❞
Well. Vic didn’t want to go on with his life knowing that he’d been given the chance to have free donuts and didn’t take it. ‘ Alright. Only if you promise not to yell at me again, though. ’
He grinned at the girl, hoping the gesture was taken as he’d meant it to be -- a friendly jest, a joke. He didn’t want to embarrass her, after all, seeing as she’d done a fine job of that herself in purchasing a dozen donuts too many. He held out a hand, ‘ I’m Vic Trystane. ’
And Rose, in all her glory had been watching him for those past twenty minutes. First, it was f a s c i n a t i o n – what was he doing with those pencils? Picking his nose? Attempting to be an animal?
‘ I’m sort of interested in learning the …– art of shoving pencils up the nose, actually.’
She’s not entirely lying and proves it as she finds two pencils in front of her, sticking them up her nose. Her head’s titled back as she tries to balance them.
‘ Really, it’s about the technique more than anything else. You’ve just really gotta get it up there to the point where you can sort of just-- I don’t know... tighten your nose around it. ’ He preferred the days where he could dart the pencils into the ceiling, but he was okay with settling for sticking them up his nostrils instead.
“ Yeah, you’re right. I have no food. At least for you. Violent people don’t get nice food because they’re mean.
Honestly, I was just so bored that bothering you was the best option for me.”
‘ ... Why am I not surprised ? Honestly, Reese, I would rather you be out literally breaking every law known to man right now instead of here talking to me. ’
HE HITS THE ground and rolls, coming to stand near Vic. Then, he grins.
“ Sorry, man, am I doing something illegal? ”
VIC ONLY CHUCKLES. Show-off kids, these days... ‘ Sadly, no. I’d be the first to let you know if you were, though. ’
❝Damn right.❞
Of course now that she could actually see the donuts, Malia was having trouble deciding which one she wanted. She scowled at them, and then to the side at the man, hoping he was still half asleep enough to not notice. Especially after she had been kind of rude.
Screw it.
❝One of each, please.❞
He noticed. ‘ Twelve donuts. Ambitious. ’
He took a step back instinctively, but shrugged casually. “I’d sure as rust hope not. That’d be severely disturbing. The idea I’d been arrested by an infant I mean, I’ve had some wicked embarrassing moments but that… that would really top it off.”
‘ You are an infant, Reese. So, what is it? Because, unless your pockets are bigger than I can tell, I don’t see lunch anywhere on you and we both know that is the only viable reason to ever disturb my peace. ’
“ IF YOU WANT to be technical, all words are ‘made up.’
It’s Eastern cuisine, Vic. Just read the description beneath the dish name. You’re a competent detective. I’m sure you can figure it out. ”
‘ A competent detective--- probably the nicest thing you’ve ever said about me, Kal. Well, not the nicest, but those are compliments I can’t exactly say in decent company, you know? ’
Well, that explained the dazed not-moving he was doing, Malia thought as she tried and failed not to roll her eyes.
❝ I said move your butt, you’re blocking the donuts.❞
‘ Alright! Sorry, ’ His hands go up in mock surrender, and Vic steps to the side to let the woman pass. ‘ Don’t get between a woman and donuts. Words to live by... ’

‘ Fuck sake, Jax is bad enough... ’ he mutters beneath his breath, watching the kid descend from the building by any means -- other than the stairwell -- he can find. ‘ Hey, kid! Y’wanna climb walls and shit, that’s fine, but it’s probably not the smartest idea to do it on the police station. ’
prxncess-powerful
‘ Yeah, look, I’m gonna be honest with you here... I didn’t hear a word you just said. I got about three hours of sleep last night, and I’m runnin’ on fumes. Can you say that again? ’
“ Or, you know, just don’t be unnecessarily violent for a change! I mean– I didn’t even do anything yet, man, what the rust? What if I just brought you lunch and you threatened me with violence?!”
‘ What is this? You come into my space, you tell me not be unnecessarily violent... as if any violence with you involved is anything other than necessary, and expect me to believe that you -- Jaxinn Reese -- haven’t done anything yet. ’ Vic pushes his feet off his desk, chair rolling back a few inches as he sits up.
‘ Was I born yesterday? ’
rthrace
‘ Ah--- shit, again... ’ he’s been entertaining himself this way for the past twenty minutes, having yet to notice the young woman standing beside him. When he does, the pencils drop from his hands as he quickly sits up. ‘ Is -- ahem -- there something I can help you with, ma’am? ’
hackerjax
‘ Is whatever you’re about to say going to make me angry? Because, I’ve been having such a good day, Reese, I’d hate to break the whole “non-violent” streak before I even take lunch. ’
‘ I don’t know how to read anything on this menu. … Are these even words, Kal? I feel like it’s made up. You brought me to a restaurant with made up words. ’
