thinking about how both times ruben went to prison it was for the same crime of almost beating and stomping someone to death who incidentally the person he perceived as “his property” and belonging to him was interested in romantically (the way the show narratively paralleled ruben and niall’s relationship to ruben and mona’s is crazy btw like ruben resenting the fact niall left him behind for college and was essentially moving on without him and then being threatened by alby vs him resenting the fact mona had other desires besides being a housewife and wasn’t satisfied devoting her life to him and being threatened by benji. and then again how episode 5 basically framed niall and mona as sisterwives “that’s OUR boy” lmao also shoutout to your “ruben so happy to be trapping all his dolls at home” post which inspired this) how aggressive and blind with rage ruben was in these instances juxtaposed by how. not necessarily gentle but i guess quick and mostly painless and almost intimate ruben tried to make niall’s death? niall spent so long and lost years of his life worried about ruben “making him ugly” only for ruben to spend niall’s last moments alive staring at his face and declaring he loved him. ruben calling niall gorgeous and wanting to hear niall call them brothers one last time before “losing him forever.” the way they were both the last thing the other saw before dying. oooo my tummy hurts also the romeo and juliet style death being so on the nose with niall calling ruben a chemical he’s addicted to (romeo dying by poison) and then stabbing ruben who lets himself bleed out (juliet dying by romeo’s own dagger) like in episode 1 richard gadd hit us with “at the heart of this relentless conflict lies a love story” and he meant that shit
