New Years Day

In a log cabin by a lake. warmed by the company of old friends. sipped peach champagne. impromptu cuddle piles. sung folk songs. serenaded the babe to sleep. stargazing.

Welcome New Year. May this be a harbringer of more to come.

Take a moment to consider this photo. It's the golden hour, either sunrise or sunset over a body of water. This is most likely in the northern hemisphere, based off of the flora. The immediate foreground is of the prow of a canoe, with a fishing pole and dog visible.

Now for the double take, that's not a water dog, it's not a retrieving breed that is naturally inclined towards being on, in, or around water. 

That, my internet darlings, is a specimen of the fine German Shorthair Pointer. Having grown up with a pack of these lovelies thanks to my father's love of them, I know this particular breed well.

German Shorthair Pointers are a sporting breed, bred for the purpose of hunting wild or imported fowl like pheasants, grouse, partridge, etc. They are active, muscular, loyal, and will run for miles on any given day when allowed the opportunity to do so. They have one of the strongest drives to seek, hunt, and kill prey out of any breed I have yet met.

These dogs do not do sitting still.

This is a moment of awe.

There is no blur to the photo.

Somewhere there is a dog that loves a human enough to willingly occupy and stay in a moving canoe.
