22. What is their least favorite thing about their personality?

She is a self-admitted doormat. She hates this doubly because it’s not a ‘natural’ trait - it was manufactured and nurtured during her marriage. Very very seldom says what she’s thinking, and tends towards passivity and taking the path of least resistance, until she’s thoroughly backed into a corner.

44. Do they have any scars? If so, what are the stories behind those scars?

A very old, very faded hysterectomy scar; one on her forehead, from the edge of her left eyebrow to around her hairline, and another the inside of her left arm courtesy of surgery to repair a fractured ulna - both of these are substantially less old and less faded . How she came to own all of the above technically constitutes a spoiler, but she’s divorced for a good reason.

70. How do they feel about animals? Do they have any pets?

LOOOOVES animals. Thinks that people who don’t like animals are freaks (animal ambivalence is fine but to her, if you actively Dislike animals then your moral compass is broken.) She’s a vegetarian for precisely this reason - she borders on empathetic to a fault as it concerns non-human life.

As far as pets, her first was a wild galah that her mum rescued after it flew into a window when she was a child. She looked after a revolving door of stray cats when she was married, her favourite being a little tabby girl she called Degas, and as we find her in the story she’s the very proud owner of a rescue cat named Esther Greenwood (first name and last, this causes no end of confusion at the vet.)

9. What is their favorite color? Favorite animal?

Favourite colour is burgundy red as far as clothing is concerned and chartreuse on a sentimental level. She hates purple in any capacity with a dedication that borders on superstition. Favourite animal is cats on paper, but in reality it’s birds. This woman is constantly noticing birds. If there’s a bird, she’s looking at it. She WILL tell you about the bird in her narration. Current entries to Evy’s birdwatching diary include galahs, several occurrences of pigeons, a white ibis, magpies, and two different species of gulls.

18. What languages can they speak? Where did they learn these languages? 

English as a first language, conversational French she learned as an adult, and a few scraps of Polish thanks to her mother, which she understands more than she speaks.

36. What is their sense of humor like? Give an example of a joke they would find humorous.

VERY dry, self-effacing, profane, slightly juvenile. Her primary tactic for navigating her own emotions is jab first, ruminate on it later - she runs on humour as a primary register and when that fails, you know shit is serious. It’s less of a formalised ‘setup, punchline’ nature than it is accumulation, stating the obvious, looking the absurd in the face and calling it absurd. The best example of a joke she’d find funny is ‘a man walks into a bar, says “ow.”’

54. What is their current hairstyle? What have been some of their past hairstyles? Which was their favorite hairstyle?

Long, whatever colour it wants to be (black originally, now predominantly grey), left to do its own thing. She mostly wears it down, or does that magic thing that women with long hair can do where they tie it in a knot-bun and it just stays there, and was a proponent of the French twist while still teaching ballet.

She’s had long hair literally her entire life, and has never possessed an ounce of desire to change it. Her husband, on the other hand, did not feel the same way:

my biggest word of advice to anyone scared to post their work/ocs/involve themselves in creative spaces online is to earnestly get interested in other people. be kind to others, like/reblog their work, tell them what you like about their work, get to know them as people.

this isn’t to “weasel” your way into anything or having ulterior motives or whatever. if you become friends with someone then that’s great! but there’s always something very personal about posting any kind of creative work. we’re all trying our best to connect with each other and the best way to get comfortable is to get to know others and show up as yourself. 🫶🏾

2. What is their sexuality?

Bisexual - probably around a 4.5 on the Kinsey scale. She spent most of her life with this unexamined and unacted upon - married a man at age 19 because she was pregnant and, to quote her directly from the text, “other options weren’t available to me when i was young.”

4. Do they have any siblings? How many? Are they older or younger?  Which sibling are they the closest with? 

She’s an only child! The product of a one-night stand with a mostly anonymous man (the best description her mum ever gave her was that he was ‘quite nice’) and raised by a single mother.

6. What would they give their life for?

At this stage in the day, the people she loves. She’s made more than enough mistakes in her lifetime as it concerns not protecting the people closest to her and has more than paid the price for them. she will not be doing so again.

10. What are some of their talents/skills?

First and most obvious one is ballet - she’s a more-or-less retired ballet teacher, and was only held back from a professional career by virtue of being too tall (and also getting pregnant at nineteen lol.) She is also a former stripper, and having absurd levels of stage presence is the foundation of most of her specialist skills. This wasn’t intentional per se but there’s also repeated references in the text to her being a good swimmer.
