We drove straight from the East coast of Florida to the West through Calle Ocho. There’s a point where 8th Street becomes one long drive through the Everglades. This is where many ex-murderers in the south supposedly come to dump the dead bodies to feed the crocodiles and get away with the evidence.
We were expecting to see alligators, but we only saw two of them. Besides that, we saw:
A seemingly-abandoned Sheriff’s Office. “Panther Crossing” signs, but no real panthers. A fake panther statue hiding behind a tree. 2 people walking slowly and suspiciously. An abandoned, windowless car. An abandoned, broken golf cart. Signs for “Gator nuggets”. A stick-figured cowboy. Clyde Butcher’s Art Gallery. A post office the size of an outhouse, seemingly closed. And this random outdoor movie theatre hidden within.
Needless to say, Florida is kinda weird.
