Here is my Secret Santa gift for Yarpfish. The prompt was: dark!Rum, possessive, keys, misdirection, rewards. Very challenging! I'd think of ideas, only to not be able flesh them out, though I was very excited about the prompt. I tried all kinds of approaches, but nothing would pan out in my head. Plus, the way the episodes were going, Rum was pretty dark on his own, he didn't need me. Then I saw the finale and it all fell into place for me. I hope you like the format. In 2012 I wrote a story, last year I wrote a story that was a little short so I included a doodle. This year I decided to do all artwork, with short explanations. I hope you enjoy your gift, Yarpfish!
Dark!Rum: The Art Collection
Keys - These are objects that represent Rumpelstiltskin's journey. Sort of the 'keys' to his life story. In case you can't recognize them, they are: Baelfire's ball, magic beans, the Dagger, Hook's hand and hook, the Chipped Cup, and the Sorcerer's Hat.
Possessive - What I'd really wanted to do here was show Rumple standing over Belle and Bae, with his shadow sort of encompassing them. Very similar to the Fairy Tale Land scene in Season Three's Quiet Minds immediately after Belle and Bae bring him back. I really loved that imagery, and that fierce, dangerous, protective instinct that drove Rumple to become the Dark One. Sadly that was beyond my skill level, so I took a gentler approach: Scowly Rumple wanting Belle all to himself, but remaining ever mindful of her mantra. I think maybe she's out to the library.
Misdirection - Rumplestiltskin's dagger wrapped in Belle's dagger scarf. We all know Rumplestiltskin's a master of misdirection, but I think Belle hasn't really been honest with herself, either. The episode Family Business, I feel, made that clear. My head canon is that she very strongly suspects, if not knows for certain, that the dagger she has isn't the real one. I think throughout the episode she kept trying (subconsciously) to set Rumple up with opportunities to come clean, but is unable to actually face the fact that her husband has been lying to her. So this drawing is for both of them, too afraid to be honest with each other, and the guilt and grief they both feel wrapping around and choking their hearts because of it.
Rewards - This is Henry's book, showing Belle banishing Rumplestiltskin from Storeybrooke. Neither of them has a happy ending (at this point, at least!), and no one has a reward.
Finally got a good start on your present!! Have a little sneak peak: "Belle allowed herself a giggle. Gone was Mr. Gold’s typical neat suit and tie – he was instead wearing a loose plaid shirt underneath a pair of half-undone overalls." Hope the move is going well!! :D -Santa
Adorable! Thank you, Santa. I’m glad you made it all the way back home safe and sound, with cats in tow. I had to leave my cat with my mom when I got married last year. My husband is extremely allergic and I just couldn’t bring myself to expose him that much. Fortunately my mom is close by - I just visited today, and my kitty was super happy to see me.

Omg! I’m so sorry, Santa. I wasn’t ignoring you, I’ve been super busy this week. My husband is moving back to our state from 1500 miles away and I’ve been apartment hunting an hour from where I live now and whew! I’m so tired just typing about it. Hi Secret Santa. To be honest it’s been a while since I’ve read any Beatrix Potter too, but the stories and artwork (drawn by Ms. Potter herself!) are just so charming! I thought they would be an interesting and fun challenge, that could be interpreted in multiple ways: 1) placing Rum and Belle within a story, 2) Rum or Belle as the author (her young life resembles Belle’s, well-off and very educated, but did you know that later she purchased farms and became a prize-winning sheep breeder?), 3) anything you can think of!
I’d also like to direct your attention (only if you wish) to an animated series of Beatrix Potter’s works. The stories are framed with a live action sequence of Ms. Potter going about her life in the English countryside and writing. I really love the end title sequence, with the rain and the pale golden sunlight as she walks through her village, but it’s the song that’s the most memorable. Well, I like to think they met while humans before turning into gods. La Muerte is a personification of La Katrina, so I imagine she was a lady from high society but with a generous heart unlike the other «dándis», just like María who grew up on a golden crib, La Muerte was also from the same roots. While Xibalba, as you know it’s a mayan god associated with despair/death so this could be a man from poor roots who saw the world as a rotten place no matter how hard you tried it to change, the earth would be always a bad place.I think they fell in love just like rumbelle (cranky old guy and a generous girl with a huge heart yadda yadda), but no matter how many times she said she loved him he didn’t believe it, bc he thought nobody could love him. But one day, this beautiful Katrina dies from a snake bite while picking zinnias (colorful flower called «ojos del mal» in mexican culture), and the town starts to mourn her right after her death and starts building monuments in her honor so she will never be forgotten for her generous heart and good deeds she made to their town.
But her lover, who received the news of her death in the same day grieved alone in such pain and despair, that he commits suicide but asks the gods to give her back. No gods answers him, and he dies alone with nobody to mourn him.And that’s how they turned into gods. The candle maker saw their history and decided that wouldn’t be the end of it, so he created two worlds. One for the Katrina, she would become La Muerte and welcome and treasure all the souls that were remembered, and for her lover, Xibalba, who dared to commit suicide and wasn’t loved neither remembered by the locals, gave the unforgotten land.Although they lived in separate worlds now, they could see each other on the anniversary of their deaths, Día de Los Muertos

True Neutral Elf Bard Druid, Follower of Gond
Alignment:
True Neutral characters are very rare. They believe that balance is the most important thing, and will not side with any other force. They will do whatever is necessary to preserve that balance, even if it means switching allegiances suddenly.
Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.
Primary Class:
Bards are the entertainers. They sing, dance, and play instruments to make other people happy, and, frequently, make money. They also tend to dabble in magic a bit.
Secondary Class:
Druids are a special variety of Cleric who serves the Earth, and can call upon the power in the earth to accomplish their goals. They tend to be somewhat fanatical about defending natural settings.
Deity:
Gond is the True Neutral god of artifice, craft, and construction. He is also known as Gond Wonderbringer. His followers believe that 'actions count' - that is, that what is accomplished in the end is what is truly important. They wear saffron clothing, with red sashes containing all manner of mechanical devices. Their preferred weapons are firearms, since the followers of Gond had a large hand in their making and invention. They also wear plate mail (no shield), but generally prefer to have bodyguards, instead. Gond's symbol is a toothed wheel, made of ivory, bone, or metal.
