March 15, 1954, the first Gilcrest Inversion occurs when an experimental IBM VX module overloads its plates on a high power test, seen here in a modern simulation. After settling the lawsuits, IBM ceases exploration of VX technology.
Note the classic Double X of a Gilcrest Inversion, indicating an imminent collapse of the colloidal spin.
