Kennyâs used to being injured. Accidents are drawn to him like moth to flame. Mostly death sits idlely by, waiting for a flicker of light to start a destructice path to swarm around.
So itâs always weird when someone else gets hurt. When there is another fire making way to attract the pack of moths. It realistically should have been Kenny. Itâs always Kenny, but here he finds himself ripping the sleeve of his white T-shirt with his teeth. It was stupid, he and Stan decided to follow after a stray cat that was hanging around his shared apartment with his siblings. Theyâre still on the poorer side of town, where there is a plethora of them.
Of course someone had to leave the remnants of their drinking behind. Glass shards buried underneath the slight dusting of snow. And of course they went out barefoot. Itâs almost July and you can almost feel a hint of warmth licking at any exposure of flesh.
Stan stepped down on glass.
Kenny takes one of the strips of white cloth and motions for Stan to lift his foot from where they are seated on the ground. Kennyâs used to this. If he doesnât die, heâs injured. After some point he has to learn to take care of himself and by default, others. He has a water bottle shoved in his pocket which he intends to clean the wound with. They should do this not in the open, but they are far. Ventured out into the woods looking to see this cat. No one will see or care, and Kenny will help Stan home.
âYou ok?â he questions as he pours some of the luke warm water onto the cloth.
Maybe it was a bad idea to follow that cat, but animals were his weakness no matter how dangerous or strange they mightâve seemed. It was like fate was bringing him to follow the cat, a grand adventure until-oh, thatâs not good. A sudden sharp pain in his foot is felt, immediately raising it and bouncing back a little to avoid stepping down on any more.
â Fuuuuuck, â he groaned, sitting down on an exposed tree root. It was just as stupid as him stepping on it to remove the glass shard from his foot, holding it while he worsened the bleeding. Stanley removed his dirty hands from it and raised it up to Kenny who seemed a little too prepared for this to happen. It hurt like hell, he wasnât looking forward to recovery.
â Iâm about as good as I can be with a gash in my foot, â Stanley replied. He closed his eyes in anticipation, but he would try to take the treatment with some courage. After all, heâd been stabbed a few times, knocked on deathâs door many more, this wasnât anything to it. A little glass shard would be an unfitting end to someone whoâs survived the ending of the world more than once.
â Shit,â he swore, fingers pressing to his forehead as he gritted his teeth, â I canât do shit if my footâs injured. This is gonna be a bitch to tell people. Iâm already behind on my schedule.. and I didnât even get to see the fucking cat! â
