How crazy would it be if W pulled some Inception-like plot. For instance, our heroine is actually in a made-up world as well, and her goal/plot is to save the other imaginary world. And the mystery bad-guy is the plot device for both of them. OR, she finds out she’s the character of a DRAMA. I’d be 100% behind the shattering of the 4th wall.

What if we’re the made-up world? (I kid, I kid, but this drama has me thinking existentially just like Inception did.)
