Answer me this, when did we get so old? Like everyone around us just seems so much younger than us these days, and now we’ve got to the point where we’re referring to booze as ‘college booze’ what’s that all about?

You should definitely add a delivery service though, you’d be raking it in.

Speak for yourself, old man. Age ain’t nothing but a number. I have no idea how that happened though. Time getting ahead of us? Or maybe because we work with people that are younger. on the plus side though, we get to boss them around.

I’ll look into it. It is a good idea. Not that many shops offer that service after all.

Easy now, I know how to handle my liquor. Although I might hold you to the coffee delivery, you know me, I never say no to a good cup of coffee. I struck gold having a Starbucks two blocks down from my building.

There is a difference between college booze and bourbon, Guy. Too many beers equals a nasty headache no matter the age. I’ll see what I can do for you. Plenty of the kids don’t mind running a delivery for me. Ha, why you think I opened my coffee shop. There will always be people who need their caffeine fix.

That’s some belief you’ve got, I mean, I initially thought it might be fun just a group of friends hanging out, playing some music, but who knows where it might lead. If you keep up with these compliments, I might just have to treat you to a private performance of your own.

Nothing too exciting, I was mostly thinking that I’d open a bottle of wine and maybe watch a movie. I’m pretty sure I’ve got the apartment to myself for a change, why?

First night off in a long time, and I’m thinking about having a video game night, I’m thinking we get a few guys together, a couple of beers, and a few hours of Mario Kart - I know I know, I’m old school, but it’s better in a group, and it’s been soo long since I had a proper guys night.

I have to say, NYADA is always a hub of excitement, and there’s always something thrilling going on around every corner. Sure, Broadway is the ultimate dream, but a friend and I were talking about how we should try and break the mould and do something different before we graduate. So, I thought, why not start a band? I mean, we live in New York, so if we’re going to do it anywhere it should be here. 

So how about it? Would anyone actually be interested in trying out something fun and exciting in their spare time? I’m not talking anything serious, well not at first anyway, but who knows where it might lead us!

No, I am, even more so now, I’m definitely glad. It’s just seeing her again, it brings it all back again. I’ll be alright, going to have a few drinks tonight, find something to entertain myself with, and I’ll be good come tomorrow. That’s your definition of financially stable, paying her coffee bill on time? Jeez, Wade.

Good plan, no one wants that on a first date, do they?

Yeah…at least you weren’t hiding as much as I was, that was…well it was messy wasn’t it? But yeah, talk to her, be honest with her, she might be one of these girls who actually understand and is completely un-phased by money. Is she financially stable herself?

Oh, well don’t I feel part of the privileged few. Although, if I were you, I probably would’t make a big deal of things first time around, you know ease her into it. You know what our world can be like at times, it’d be daunting for anyone, let alone an outsider looking in.

It was pretty messy.. and it ended pretty messy. Be glad that is behind you, Guy. Now it’s time to move on and start anew. That is what I’m hoping for. If she’s not.. I’m screwed. As far as I can judge she is. Does not run a tab over at the coffee shop, always pays right away. 

I’ll ease her into the world of society dinners and snobs at the country club.

Sounds to me like she’s made quite the impression on you, I can’t remember the last girl who trusted so much, at least one who was sane anyway. You realise how that sounds right? Trust me, I’ve done enough sneaking around in my time to know that constantly making excuses as to why you can’t take them back to your place, often raises their suspicions. Yes, that sounds very noticeable.

She did. She’s feisty but I love it. Keeps me on my toes. Hey now, I give you I made some mistakes when it comes to the women I dated but they were not crazy. It sounds like i’m hiding a wife and a few kids.. I know. And that’s why I came to you with this. you know what it feels like for the one who is doing the sneaking around.we know it is wrong but we can’t yet face what we know should be done. 

 No we do not. You might even get to meet this one one day, just saying.

Ah, a career girl? Dare I say it, but are you finally ready to settle down? I’m so proud. Maybe you should take her out to dinner, and break it to her gently? I mean, it might be better than just springing it on her when you take her home. Although, I am shocked that it’s taken you this long to take her home, but that’s another story. How vertically challenged are we talking here?

Settle down? I wouldn’t call it that just yet. I love spending my time with her and I trust her enough to let her know about parts of my life others don’t know. I’ve been quite the gentleman up till now. And stayed over at her place or took her to a hotel claiming that was more convenient than going to my apartment. She is  5'3". so compared to my 6′2″ it’s very noticeable 

I think I’ll give your ‘take her to diner and break it to her gently’plan a try. Thank you for your advice.

Yeah, I just wish things have ended a bit more amicably, you know? Despite everything, I did care about her - still do to some extents, she just…wasn’t the right person for me. 

Hm, that’s a hard one. I suppose you’ve gone the right way about things though, having her get to know you without the money, so she can’t be accused of being a gold digger…do you think her knowing will make a difference?

No need to explain yourself, man. I know you’d like for things to be different. Sometimes you, unfortunately, have no say how things go down. 

Yes, that’s why I did that. I’ve had enough of those gold diggers after me to know it’s best to keep the money a secret as long as possible. I don’t think it will. She has her heart set on a career on Broadway and is very focused on that. Very target orientated.. I’m only scared she might feel hurt because I didn’t trust her enough to tell her. And even though she is vertically challenged she looks like she can pack a mean punch.

We had a few business details to go over, I thought it would be better done over dinner, but it seemed she just wanted another opportunity to rant about our failure of a marriage. Can’t blame a guy for wanting to try though, can you?

Sorry to hear that, Guy. I guess it’s going to take a while longer before she’ll be moving on from her hurt. No, can’t fault you there. Only applaud your actions. A lot of men would already have given up in trying to resolve things. 

I could use some advice.. I met this young woman and things are going pretty well even if I say so myself but the thing is.. she only knows me as the owner of a coffee shop. How do I break it to her that I’m way more then that? If I took her home.. well she’d be in for quite the shock, don’t you think?

I think you are quite right with that assumption, she probably never will be okay with how it ended. Maybe she will with the fact it did end, but the on the how and why I doubt it. What were you thinking when you agreed to having dinner with her? Clear the air between you two?

Not the best experience of my life, it’s been months now and she’s still as bitter about everything as she was in the beginning. A word of advice for anyone who’s listening, don’t get married kids.

Rachel smiled, tilting her head to the side slightly, keeping her eyes on Wade the entire time. “I wasn’t aware dinner was on the table,” she was teasing of course, since she’d never be so brazen about such a thing, but the banter between them seemed to be flowing so freely between them. He glanced down at her lips, eyes slowly traveling up to look into her eyes. “Excellent. Already looking forward to spending even more time with you.” The fingertips of his other hands brushed down along her back, before he rested his hand in the small of her back. “It will be fun.”
