This chart shows the disparities between a man and women's pay based on their GPA, which is a predicator of adulthood income. Notice how a women with a 4.0, perfect GPA is worth about the same as a man with 2.0. Even though the women scored higher, her resulting pay was worth the same amount as a man who scored lower. This is inequality (123). And the way to stop it is to converge genders (310), so that men and women are paid the same for the same job and the same amount of work. Then wages will truly be equal.

The US is not even in the top 10 for equal wages. It's 23rd, and this is quite a big gap for a country that is all about equal rights isn't it? And as you can see from the index, this is a shared problem globally. It happens everywhere and shows that the world we live in is truly patriarchal (295) in that we still have gender stratification (295) systems.

Reflection Post 2

My posts have been mostly targeted on the US, because that is where I live, but this problem is world wide, in not just underdeveloped countries but developed nations. And not a single one of have 100% equal pay. Not even one of them.

To be honest I choose this topic because I have witnessed the devastating hand it has held on not only some of my family but my friends and their families as well. My mother had been working for nearly 10 years at the same job as a supervisor which the company nearly single handedly gave her all of her division's work to do by herself constantly throughout those years, making her come into work on call, work mornings to the next morning, completely driving her into the ground. When they finally hired another supervisor, a man, they gave him a higher pay than my mother, who has been working there for nearly 10 years devoting her life and her health for them. And the sad thing is, is that this is common and allowed to happen and as a society have silently accepted this reality for decades. And if that isn't wrong then I don't want to be right. 

I believe equal pay for the same job should be a requirement, no exceptions.

This chart shows the wage gaps between men and women in the United States and how different states are more equal in terms of pay then others, but there is NO state that has a 100% earnings ratio. 

This again ties into our coursework showing the inequality(123) between men and women, and how being a women is akin to having a master status (169) of how one is to be paid unequally.

This chart displays not only the wage gaps experience by women, but of women AND men of differing races. This ties into our course work by showing displaying stratification systems (125), where White and Asian men earn the most in society while Hispanic men and women earn the least.

State of the Union quote of night:

Today, women make up about half our workforce. But they still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. That is wrong, and in 2014, it’s an embarrassment. A woman deserves equal pay for equal work. She deserves to have a baby without sacrificing her  job. A mother deserves a day off to care for a sick child or sick parent without running into hardship – and you know what, a father does, too. It’s time to do away with workplace policies that belong in a “Mad Men” episode. This year, let’s all come together – Congress, the White House, and businesses from Wall Street to Main Street – to give every woman the opportunity she deserves. Because I firmly believe when women succeed, America succeeds.

This post above is a post of a quote from the President of the United States himself, Barack Obama, from one of his State of the Union addresses. This ties into our coursework because not only one of the highest authoritative power (24) has exposed the issue of feminization of poverty (234), but shows a desire to give women equal pay and enforce a social change (467).

Here are some sobering visuals: For every dollar earned by a white man in America, a white woman earns, on average, 77 cents, a black woman earns 69 cents, and a Latina woman earns 57 cents. This article shows the diversity of the wage gap not only between sexes but races.  This ties into our course because it just show inequality (123), in general. Inequality in wages, inequality in sexes, and inequality in races. And it really shows the powerfully image of what it is like to be not only female but of a different race other than white and how it affects them financially.

This article is pretty much about how a congressman who says that he "believes in equal pay", but constantly votes against it and any of the stated acts that would have allowed wage discrepancies to be transparent and even wrote a book in where he argued " that a wife’s role in a marriage was to “voluntarily submit” to her husband".

This ties into our coursework because it is not only an example of gender stratification (295) and gender role (290), but an example of power (24), and how it is being misused, because as a congressman he has the power to vote for the right decision, but instead lied about believing in equal pay but voting the opposite.

Think Progress has released an article found below on "The Highest- Paid Woman CEO Makes Less Than a Third Of The Highest- Paid Man" :

In the article it explains how women in high ranking jobs, such as executives and CEOs are being paid less than their male counterparts. In the case of Yahoo's CEO, Marissa Mayer, she is being paid less than a man working under her.

This ties into sociology and the course textbook, Experience Sociology, by David Croteau and William Hoynes, because even women in higher offices experience the gap even though they have reached an achieved status ( 90, 126, 168) that puts them in a class (221) that earns a massive amount of money, but are being paid less than their male counterparts, and in doing so creates class inequality (224) as well as gender discrimination.

Hello, Internet. This blog will be about Wage Gaps, mainly in developed nations whose policies include equal rights. Here I will hopefully enlighten you how gender and race are being paid less in wages even for doing the same work.

Also this blog is for my SOC111 course I'm taking in Summer, 2014, with Dr. Yeager.
