One last self-portrait/a variation of the previous one - I think this one is my favorite though, partly because this is my current favorite summer outfit. I just need to fill my home with giant icelandic poppies - I've seen some beautiful ones made with Italian crepe paper though I've lost the artist's name.

I actually ended up drawing multiple self-portraits (mostly multiple versions of *this* self-portrait), but I just turned 40 this year so it didn't seem like such a bad time for some fresh portraits. I also had fun with all the floral patterning, though the pattern that ended up in the portrait is my real shirt and the other one is just for fun. I wish I owned this wallpaper though.
It's been a little bit since I drew a self-portrait, and this one ended up being a tribute to one of my artist inspirations: Bijou Karman. I definitely vibe with her clean lines and botanicals, but this time I am attempting her bolder palette.
Not an exhaustive list, but a few other contemporary artists who have had a big influence on me: Amy Sherman, Louis Thomas, Alex Katz, Anna Valdez, Nikoleta Sekulovic, and Ines Longevial.
I should make a list of some of my favorite artists - perhaps my favorites on tumblr - since there's a lot of styles I love that are far unlike my own (like Victo Ngai or Carla Petelski).
Trying out a tweaked lineart/coloring style - this took way longer than usual but I’m really happy with it in the end. Starman himself, of course.
Finally picked up my tablet again after too many months away. Inspired by a lot of different photos of flower corsets that kept popping up on insta/tumblr/pinterest.
One last piece for Inktober/October (other than my Halloween card) - Janet from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The theme of this year was definitely "red".
I started some pieces for Sinners and Ginger Snaps but they were scrapped - maybe next year!
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is genuinely one of the best vampire movies and a personal favorite. Wonderfully atmospheric, and also the cat is totally fine don't worry.
I went through so many versions of trying to draw the Dust Witch, and also went back and forth which outfit to do (this or the black spiderweb look). I ended up making myself a chain link brush but I still had to hand highlight all the links which was a pain but it and the belt (which also used the chain brush) are two of my favorite details on this.
The most important part though is that the director of Something Wicked This Way Comes heard "The Most Beautiful Woman In The World" and was like "say less" and hired Pam Grier.
I realized Maddy and Laura could obviously be interchanged with a few small tweaks. Here's the less scary version of her in the Black Lodge. Finale version of her under the cut.
I actually drew Maddy first, because she's so underrated (and I love her glasses).
I have been working on Artober each day, but it's been very slow this year (~1 complete piece per week) and I won't be posting everything in October.
I'm actually starting with my favorite though: Black Lodge Laura Palmer and Maddy. Or the Doppelgängers.
Happy Eid to all who celebrate! This year's card for my friends and coworkers (going with my architectural card theme for all the holidays), and I'm hopefully making some baklava next week when we all get together for a meal :)

(As a note, when the Hanukkah and Christmas cards share a base drawing, I have planned both cards in advance to make sure both get equal attention and detail. In this case, I also have very close friends in both recipient groups who LOVE NYC and cute little townhomes so I thought it would be fun to use this as a basis for both.)
