When it comes to the luck of the draw you are supposed to defend your own card. It’s the golden rule… However, Mashima went on attack.

Finals Week DeStress
So it’s finals week! Boo! Hiss!
I know that finals week struggle - I was up until 2 am last night, starting and finishing a paper due at 9 am this morning. However, it’s still important to take some time for yourself in the midst of the cramming and the writing and the commiserating. Here’s how to take a load off during finals:
20/10 your study time. Take 20 minutes of hard-core focus, and follow it with 10 minutes of goofing off. Repeat ad nauseum. This gives you time to focus in on your subject, while also giving yourself something to look forward to. Adjust the times as you want - just make sure that it doesn’t become 10 minutes studying to two hours goofing off.
Walk around sometimes. Seriously, moving your body is good for you. Walking also helps boost your memory, so if you;re reciting dates and facts as you walk somewhere, you’re basically getting double the memorization.
Listen to rain noise or coffee shop chatter while you work. It helps me focus, at least, and therefore makes me more productive. That means I’m done sooner and can get to sprawling on a friend’s floor and complaining more quickly.
Drink something warm and calming. I got some Flowering Tea over Thanksgiving break, and I will be drinking it tonight and tomorrow to help calm my nerves before my jury. Lavender is also good. But if hot chocolate is what calms you down, then go for it!
Set up goals and progress points (other than deadlines!). I have word counts for all of my papers due in the next week. All together, I have 7100 more words due, not counting this blog. Every 500, I give myself a treat. It’s been working pretty well so far! The goal is to reward progress without focusing on the stomach-churning horror of the Due Date.
Take a longer than normal shower. Hot water is relaxing. Taking a shower makes you clean, which will make you feel better. It’s also something that gets you away from those review sheets. Enjoy the experience!
Clean your room. Hey, just because it’s technically more work doesn’t mean it’s not better than studying in a dirty room. Cluttered and messy surroundings make it hard to concentrate, and the process of moving things to where they belong can become meditative.
Take a strategic nap. Naps can be a form of motivation! In your study schedule, add a half hour nap after your biggest, scariest project. It will give you a not-deadline-related and good for you reason to push through.
If you’re starting to panic or psyche yourself out, step away from the homework for a while. Seriously, if studying is actively triggering any sort of anxiety problem or anything you might have, stop and take a break. One final is not worth your mental health.
Take advantage of your school’s finals activities. My school is giving out free hot chocolate and coffee, and having therapy animals come by for students to pet. Do those things!
Go to bed at something approaching a reasonable time. I know, studying is important! That test is important! But sleep consolidates your memories - if you don’t get through at least one or two REM cycles, then you’re not going to remember everything you stayed up until 5 am studying.
Limit your coffee intake. Don’t give yourself caffeine poisoning. It happened to my dad when he went to school, and now he’s allergic to coffee. Don’t be him. If you’ve had three shots of espresso and you’re still falling asleep, it’s time to maybe actually for real get some sleep.
Try to get at least a little bit of a head start on stuff due later this week. It’s harder to panic when you know you’ve at least started something. Try getting two paragraphs done on everything tonight, if you can.
Remember that finals, grades, GPA, and even college itself are not the be-all end-all. Definitely don’t ignore your finals, but keep in mind that finals come and go, but you’re stuck with yourself - you’re the thing you need to care about the most.
Good luck everyone! I believe in you!
Wait what in the hell happened to your dad I’m intrigued tell me more
As far as I remember the story, he had a major paper due the next morning, so he brewed coffee, then made coffee with that coffee, and then brewed it again. Basically he made the Strongest Coffee Ever and drank the whole pot. This was before energy drinks. He spent the night walking circles around his table wondering if he was having a heart attack. Now caffeine has no effect on him other than all the bad ones - jitteriness, irritation, stomach aches, you name it.
ALSO since it is finals time again it is time to bring back the Finals Themed Posts wheeeeeee.

“Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try”
Another thing about college rejection:
I know a lot of you are starting to receive admissions decisions from the schools you applied to. Many of you will be pleased with your results, but many of you are inevitably going to be rejected from schools you really truly wanted to attend. Here’s the thing: three years ago, I was rejected from my top choice school. At the time I was devastated; I should have gotten in. My ACT was well above the average for the school, my GPA fell in the range of average GPAs that were typically accepted, and I had what I thought were a few impressive extracurriculars. I was a relatively strong student, and this school should have been a match for me. But I was denied.
Looking back on it, it clearly wasn’t personal. The program I applied for was small, and the applicant pool was huge. There were decidedly better applicants than me, but this doesn’t mean that I was a bad applicant or a bad student. It had nothing to do with me. A college wants the applicants that they know will succeed in their program and, further, there are only a limited number of spots. My rejection was reflective of the applicant pool, not me.
Now, three years after being denied from my dream school, I now attend the very school I was denied from. I got over my rejection, went somewhere else, and worked my butt off to get (nearly) straight As. I took the rejection as motivation to prove that I was a deserving student. Two years later, I reapplied and was accepted.
The point of this story is to show that a rejection isn’t the end of the world. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad student, it doesn’t mean you’re stupid, and it doesn’t even mean that you aren’t good enough for that school. Admissions are unpredictable. Applicant pools vary year-to-year. None of this is a reflection of who you are as a person and a college rejection isn’t reflective of what your future is going to look like. Only you can determine what your future is going to hold. It’s up to you to decide where you’re going to go from here.

World Literature Reading 📖 then Korean notes 📝
By the way I love studying Korean. It’s such an incredible language and with an incredible culture. I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made even though I’m just on Lesson 7. I can’t wait to use my skills when I become an English Teacher in Korea. I’m just in awe of it honestly… in awe that I’m achieving my dreams one step at a time.
Anyways, are any of you guys better at studying at night? I know I am. I just put on a tv show as background noice and turn on my wax warmer and I’m all set.
this post is for anyone who feels a little lost right now. maybe you don’t know what your path in life is yet. maybe you hate your job. maybe you’re still in school and you’ve changed your major three times. maybe you’re confused about what it is that you want. maybe you know exactly what you want but have no idea how to get it.
you will figure it out. you are not dead yet. you are going to figure your shit out. i believe in you.

How I learnt to study
During High school I was one of those students who never really had to work for my marks, I had the uncanny ability to leave my assignment till the night before and still manage full marks that is ..till I got to university, my first year was a disaster I was barely passing my units I was stressed and depressed, what got me through high school was clearly not working in university. So to stop my second year in university from being a disaster as well and to save my gpa I decided to learn how to study from scratch! spoiler: It worked and my marks have tripled since I adopted these habits. So here are the things I started doing!
- I invested in school supplies that I NEEDED and not just for aesthetic, example I bought tons and tons of basic cheap notebooks because I knew I was going to do a lot of writing and things like flashcards. My rule of thumb was if its functional its perfect.
- I attended every lecture and every class no matter what the time was! This is essential as it saves time later when you are rushing around trying to catch up.
- I tried to stay up to date no matter what! Before I would let lecture after lecture pile up but ever since doing this, my study life has been much easier to cope with.
- UNDERSTANDING EVERYTHING YOU LEARN FROM THAT WEEK, I cannot stress how much this has helped me. If I am learning about a topic in week 5, I have to understand it fully in week 5, not when I am in finals week and stressing out. I use resources such as textbooks and the internet to help me understand or I will ask my teacher. The important thing is I understand it fully.
- Be organised! Know when you have an assignment due, there are so many ways to do this. Handheld planner, wall planner, phone reminders, there is apps such as my study life. Anything that will remind you to get started on the thing before it is too late.
- Review your notes weekly or fortnightly!!! Memory works by relearning, instead of cramming the night before exams, review weeks before.
- Break down your essays weeks before its due, you don’t have to start writing them right away but at least start thinking about them.
- Utilise any free time, for example instead of listening to music on my 45 min bus ride to uni I started listening to a psych podcast or doing my readings for that day.
- Have mental health days, I found out how difficult it is to study and how necessary it is to take breaks. Studying is stressful, have days/half days where you relax and look after yourself.
-Cut down on caffeine, I was a serial coffee addict, Im talking 4 shots a cup three times a day. Cutting down reduced my anxiety and got me sleeping more, which improved my mood and energy.
- Have a study buddy/group, find someone who is serious about their study and have study sessions with them, you get to study and have a social life.
- Find a study schedule that suits you, don’t feel pressure to get up at 5 am if you find it easier to study at 6pm.
- Have a study place, that you know you will study in! It can be your local library, your desk, your bed. Anything that you find will work for you!
