Thank You Miura Sensei.
RIP Kentaro Miura
I can’t believe it was kept in the wraps for 2 weeks… but I’m a bit flabbergasted and still processing that Kentaro Miura has passed away.
It’s pretty easy to understate how big his influence is in art. Without him, we wouldn’t get Dark Souls and Bloodborne, and the animators and artists of Castlevania explicitly said he was in an influence in their work.
Miura, in my opinion, had one of the greatest eyes for detail and some STRONG, STRONG, STRONG visual imagery almost untouched by… well a lot of people really.
He pushed the visual imagery of fantasy and horror in new and exciting ways, and it’s a test to his timeless writing that we’re still invested in Berserk for decades.
RIP Mr. Miura.
— I just… love her. Like crazy. It’s crazy how much… I want her.
“YOU MADE HONDA-SAN SMILE WHEN YOU WERE WITH HER! DO YOU SERIOUSLY THINK I COULD DO THE SAME THING? CUT THE CRAP! GET A CLUE AND REALIZE THERE ARE THINGS ONLY YOU CAN DO!
DON’T JUST SIT THERE. ME, THE GUY YOU ADMIRE, JUST GAVE YOU A PEP TALK. DUMB CAT.”
an elaboration on why Horikoshi‘s misogynistic writing is so frustrating
BNHA literally starts with an ass shot of a woman.
Mt. Lady does get her cool moments later on, but she’s a seriously minor character and I frankly wouldn’t be surprised if she dies. And she’s far from being the only female character who is egregiously sexualized.
Manga spoilers through chapter 315 (leaks) below.

Important to recognize that misogynistic writing is still a huge theme in a lot of the popular shonen's that we enjoy. Understanding that shonen is targeted at a male demographic, but it's not just guys that enjoy reading these, it's women too, and the least that can be done is to treat the female characters with respect.
I really want to encourage all of my fellow Canadians reading this to contact your local MP (you can search for who to contact here) and let them know directly how you would like to see the government respond to the findings at the Kamloops Residential School. Please don’t get caught up in thinking it has to be particularly articulate/fancy/erudite - it just has to be done. I simply said that it’s time that Canada begin acting on the action items from the TRC and that it is necessary to search every residential school grounds for further graves - we know they’re there, Indigenous communities have always known they’re there, and these children need to be returned to their communities. Don’t let our collective desire to be well spoken/polite/whatever stop you. I’m happy to help if you need help.
This is often more impactful than signing a petition (but please do that as well). Email is fine, you don’t have to necessarily call them and speak to someone directly. But please, let them know. These children have to go home.
"It was the most horrible pain in the world to be a native, to be an Indian back then."
News of the remains of 215 children being discovered at the site of a former residential school in B.C. jolted Clayton Peters, whose seven years of torment there have been mostly encased in silence around fears of soap and strappings, a cold dark room and dreams of running away.
“I’m finally telling somebody about it, all the stuff I went through in there. Like it’s out there, it’s not a secret,” he said. “It was the most horrible pain in the world to be a Native, to be an Indian back then.”
[…]
At the residential school, he soon learned all siblings were kept on separate floors, Peters said, adding he saw one of his brothers, J.P., about five years later and they decided to run away, only to be caught and beaten by a priest.
“He said to me, ‘If you ever try running again, Mr. Peters, we will take you far away and they’ll never find you. Do you want to run?’ I said, ‘I won’t run.’ ”
Being beaten and molested was part of the continuing abuse children suffered at the school, he said.
“After they strap you and strap you, who are you going to cry to?” he said. “You learn to hate, to hold hate in you.”
Children who spoke their own language were disciplined, Peters said: “They would stick bars of soap in their mouth and make them eat it.”
Kids were also forced to scrub themselves with soap containing lye, which burned their skin, “so they could take the brown off of them,” he said.
“They beat me up so many times for not using it, but I wouldn’t use it,” he said. “I quit showering because they just wanted to hurt you, that’s all.”
Children weren’t given medicine when they were sick but confined to a dark room alone, Peters said of the place that was also used as a form of punishment.
“I was in there so many times in that dark room, for sometimes doing nothing, just for looking at them,” he said of the staff. “You’re supposed to look down as soon as they look at you. Your eyes have to hit the floor.”
