Rest in Peace, Sam Neill

In Jurassic Park, one of the scenes that I believe impacted my life in a way I couldn't imagine then was when Dr. Alan Grant saw the Brachiosaurus for the first time.

Sam Neill's performance there, capture the amazement I had seeing that seemingly living, breathing dinosaur for the first time.

I can't imagine the amount of people who'm Sam Neill has inspired among his many roles.

RIP. Hope you're catching up Sir Richard Attenborough in the afterlife.

It's July the 4th, thought I'd whip up something for my American followers, alongside a tribute to the paleontological contributions of the United States, though in Hawaii's case, it's also a case of just how human activity can make "modern" critters follow the path of the dead.

Guess the paleo critters if you can!

Felt appropriate to reblog this, considering it highlights 250 years worth of paleontological finds.

It's meant to be both celebratory, but also sad, as in all likelihood, we'll never get the chance to Jurassic Park our way to seeing any of these creatures again.

For my American friends and followers, you live above soil that has provided so much to the field of paleontology. May you also help preserve the life that still exists.

John Blanche, one of the people who gave warhammer a visual identity, has passed away.

I don’t think that I need to talk about how influential he was or how talented and gorgeous his artwork was, I think that speaks for itself.

The world was a bit more colorful to have him, and the world of Warhammer 40k was more grimdark thanks to him.

Requiescat in pace.

RIP to the man whom shaped the look and feel of some of GW's works for FORTY years before he retired. That is some loyalty and dedication.

He was responsible, arguably more than any other, to establish how modern Warhammer 40k is meant to feel, intricately detailed, grandoise, and of course... A Grim and Dark future.

Yup. The rage and hunger for battle and carnage will never leave Conquest in my AU, but it IS tempered and focused, and, in a sense "tamer".

Alongside Professor Utonium, he also voiced Mr. Herriman, Monkey Fist, HIM and so much more. If you grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s, you've heard his voice. It hurts even more that he died at only age 64.

RIP to a voice acting legend.

Beast Fables Mermay 2026 - Familial Dispute

Kara: "Mum, I'm doing EXACTLY what you told me to! Why, beneath the Eye of the Goddess, should I pick someone right now!? YOU said the decision is up to me, and I get to say who I can marry on MY terms!"

Carol: "In normal times yes! but like I have explained to you a hundred times before, WE ARE NOT LIVING IN NORMAL TIMES! Right now, we have to prioritize the safety and security of our community now."

Kara: "This is MY life mum! MY future!! What of my happiness? Who I pick is literally life changing for me mum!

Carol: "You have a DUTY Kara! Who you choose affects the livelihoods of all of Tridentsfall! Do you realize the fallout if you reject every suitor you see? Do you have any idea how lucky you are that you even have so many chances?"

A classic familial dispute of one's happiness vs obligations, in this case one that concerns the wellbeing of not just Kara, but the whole of Tridentsfall.

For Kara, she's feeling she's pressured to do something that, normally, can wait until one (an heir to a clan Matriarch) reaches their early thirtees, but for Kara's mother, these are not normal times.

With Merfolk feeling ever constrained by the expanding reach of landlubbers, and thus their secrecy harder and harder, some are looking for taking drastic actions as a solution to their problems.

Giving their citizens normalcy is paramount, a good match might be crucial to gain everything from warriors to protect the town or more resources to grow food or increase trade.

Meanwhile Kara is, in her mind, doing her best to make sure that she can make the most of a life-changing decision without potentially becoming trapped or miserable. You know, vetting, just like what her mum trained her to do.

Petra (Kara's lil' sister, a merlamprey) hopes things can simmer down between her mum and her big sis. Galeo, Carol's loving husband and doting dad to Petra and Kara, makes sure to keep Petra calm, as she hates being alone (and scared).
