Sometimes it’s not “if they wanted to, they would.” Sometimes it’s “I desperately wanted to, but I’m drowning in my own mind, battling a mental health crisis, and absolutely feeling the crushing weight of disappointing you.”
I know it will pass, but it's heavy
Life is heavier / than the weight of all things.
Rainer Maria Rilke, from The Poetry of Rilke; "The Neighbor" (tr. from the German by Edward Snow)
Marilynne Robinson, from Gilead
[Text ID: Our dream of life will end as dreams do end, abruptly and completely, when the sun rises, when the light comes. And we will think, All that fear and all that grief were about nothing. But that cannot be true. I can't believe we will forget our sorrows altogether. That would mean forgetting that we had lived, humanly speaking. Sorrow seems to me to be a great part of the substance of human life.]
I think this is my favorite poem.
“I used to dislike being sensitive. I thought it made me weak. But take away that single trait, and you take away the very essence of who I am. You take away my conscience, my ability to empathize, my intuition, my creativity, my deep appreciation for the little things, my vivid inner life, my deep awareness of others’ pain, and my passion for it all.”
— Unknown
I know that hope is the hardest love we carry.

“My months fill themselves with milk and laundry and dishes, with nursery rhymes and bedtime stories, with split grocery bags, dented tins, birthday parties, hangovers, and bills. I coax many small joys from my world: clean sheets snapping on the line, laughing myself breathless in the arms of my husband, a garden slide bought for a song from the classifieds, a picnic on the beach, three small heads of hair washed to a shine, shopping list after completed shopping list — tick, tick, tick — all my miniscule victories.”
Doireann Ní Ghríofa, A Ghost in the Throat
I fucked up tonight. He ran me a bath, set up snacks, drinks, and the laptop. I had a drink in the pub after work without telling him. I was selfish. I’m a horrible and unappreciative girlfriend. But I do appreciate everything he does for me. But I feel like shit for making him feel unappreciated.
Work is awful too, our boss is being a bully and taking his moods out on us and it’s so stressful
