Well, hello there, Tumblr. It's been a while, hasn't it? 

The last time I blogged, things weren't going so well for me. But after a lot of determination, I finally did find work in Byron Bay (at a bikini factory of all places!) and things started to look up for me in the end. After 6 months in NSW I moved on to follow the warmth to Port Douglas, Queensland.I am now spending my last few days in Australia with friends in Perth catching up wit some of the amazing people I have met along the way.

The past 25 months have just flown by! In my time away from Canada, I have met some extraordinary people, seen some spectacular things and have had the experience of a life time. Along with the good, though, I have also had some all time lows. What has surprised me most is how I have been able to over come these lows and continue on my journey with a smile. 

In three days I will start my long trip back to Canada, where I can't help but feel like it all ends. But I think just because this trip is nearly over, does not mean the adventure is, too.

This Sunday we were lucky enough to get a break from our rainy weather and got a beautiful Sunny afternoon. After spending the day on the beach Andrea and I headed to this spot I have had my eye on months and had she fun with glitter. Thanks to Andrea for being such a trooper and trekking through the scary long grass with me!

This might be my new favorite place in Byron Bay. Our beaches mostly face East, so it's been a while since I've found a nice spot with a nice sunset.

James Vincent McMorrow at Falls Festival Byron Bay. Over New Year's Eve I was able to pick up a temporary job at a music festival near Byron Bay. While the job itself was a true test to my spirit having to work with a truly awful man, there were two perks. With a pretty great lineup there were only two performances that I really wanted to see and was so stoked to get an hour off on January 1st and 2nd to sneak away and see each of them. Getting to see James Vincent McMorrow live was amazing! I hadn't even known he was at the festival until I arrived. I never dreamed that I would get to see him live. I had chills the whole time. Every note he sings give me shivers. It was the perfect little pick-me-up that I needed half way through the week to get me through the last couple of days. For any JVM fans out there, if you ever get a chance to see him live, JUMP ON THAT CHANCE! You will not be disappointed. And for those who don't know his music, check him out HERE!

After nearly 5 months of unemployment and 3 solid months of trying to get work, I can confidently say that too much idle time does bad things for my soul. I have been in Australia for 3 months to the day, and two of those months in Byron broke and looking for work. It has me feeling really low and pretty awful about myself. I've been struggling to scrape up the money every week just to pay rent and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I've done it so far. It's not just the money, though. I genuinely do miss working. Having some kind of purpose everyday. Interacting with people and meeting new people. I miss having something interesting to reply with when the people I have met ask me "what's new?" or "what have you done today". But the truth is, when you have no job, no friends, no money to engage in social activities, nothing is ever new. Needless to say, my time so far in Australia has not gone how I had hoped it would. Though employment and money have been a huge hurdle for me to get over it hasn't been all bad. How can it be!? I am living in a beach side town with nothing but time to enjoy the sun and sand! In spite of my struggles, I have been trying to enjoy the little things more. The weather has been mostly great so I have been able to spend time on the beach nearly every day. I am probably more tanned at the moment than I've ever been in my life! I have read more books in the last 3 months than I think I have in the last three years. Most importantly, in 2014 I have been trying to spend a lot more time with my sketchbook. It's one of those things that I have always done, but never very frequently. I struggle with the "what to draw" issue. But recently I have been trying to not care so much anymore and just get something on the paper. So, here's to hoping that February will bring good things for me! ... namely a job :) Keep your fingers crossed for me, and in the meantime, enjoy this double rainbow that I got to see on the day I arrived here. Because as they say.... Every cloud has a silver lining.
