A walk around Dartmoor, based around Fernworthy Forest

Today I chose not use the book the Previous two walks came from, today I used my Dartmoor map. I chose to take a walk around Fernworthy Forest, but the route I mapped out was closed, so I ended up taking a 5.5 mile walk over the moors. I was lucky enough to see a pack off deer running over the moors and some of the ponies of Dartmoor. As you can guess the going under foot can be rough as its moor land. On the route I choose it took me passed Warren house inn, a great place for a mid walk drink. Now for the star ratings: Terrain: 3.5 / 5. It is moorland so it's not going to be great, but there are some tracks depending on the route you take. Views: 4.5 / 5. Views are great off course and I end at the reservoir which is a great place for a picnic. Wildlife: 5 / 5. Great wildlife there. Deer, ponies, birds and more. Local area: 4 / 5. It has lots off packing near the area some off it free and there's a pub so can't complain. Overall for walk: 4.5 / 5. Great walk for people who like to come up with there own walk with a map and people who like wildlife. Will be going back to this area of Dartmoor.

Coleton Fishacre Coast Walk.

Today’s walk was very nice (but wet) along the South Hams coast line. There are great views of the sea and some very interesting buildings along the way. There are some WW2 buildings and what looks like a moat (take a look at pictures below). The walk itself is very up and down. I got out of breath more than once as there are some very steep hills involved. The area itself has a lot off National Trust things including Coleton Fishacre and some National Trust cottages that you can rent. There isn’t many places to eat on the walk so take some food with you.

And now for the star ratings:

Terrain: 4 / 5. The path’s are well looked after but can be slippery if you don’t have a good grip on your foot wear.

Views: 5 / 5. Great views and clear waters, also the buildings along the way are great to see.

Wildlife. 2.5 / 5. I didn’t see much, just a few birds you get on the coast line.

Local area: 3 / 5. This is all about the walk, so if you don’t want to pay to get into Coleton Fishacre that’s all you can do.

Overall for walk. 4 / 5. The views make this walk. Will do it again.

Fingle Bridge to Teign Gorge

Today’s walk was from fingle bridge to Teign gorge and back via Castle drogo. This walk was excellent with great views. You can take a few routes at fingle bridge, we chose to follow the river from fingle to Teign gorge then on the way back we chose to go up hill to Castle Drogo, I would say only do this if you have lots off energy as the hills can get steep. After the walk you can go to the fingle bridge inn for a drink and a bite to eat, but we chose to go to a great inn in the near by village of Drewsteignton with lovely food.

Terrain: 3.5 / 5. The terrain is good, but there are rocky areas, so wear walking boots.

Views: 4.5 / 5. Great views of Dartmoor if you go uphill near Drogo.

Wildlife. 2 / 5. You don’t see much wildlife but you do hear lots of birds.

Local area. 4 / 5. Good pub’s near the walk.

Overall for the walk. 4 / 5. Great walk will do it again.
