Sick of subsidizing the Waltons...

Frankly, I am sick of subsidising the Waltons.  Fork over some of your billions that you make every year and pay your employees a living wage.  This is a family that could make a huge positive difference in thousands of people's lives, instead they show up in life as greedy, mean-spirited and complacent.

The Walmart economy means...

The Walmart economy means that my tax dollars are subsidizing the wealthy Walton family.  I choose not to shop at Walmart, but I can’t choose not to give my money to the Waltons.  Walmart  has a horrible environmental record as well.

that my mom cant keep helping her disabled daughter not become homeless while she waits for SSI.

it means that my mom cant help me with the $10K I need to save my life.

my taxes paying to subsidize the biggest, most profitable retailer in the world -- all so that Walmart can pay its workers starvation wages.  Outrageous!

Forced into Quitting

I was forced into quitting my job at wal-mart after being injured on the job. After nearly 5 years of working for the company, setting up their POS network in the backroom, maintaining the backroom, loading, unloading trucks, doing the job of a support manager for 7 months and then passed up for promotion, and running areas on the floor that are now ran in the same store by 3 people instead of 1, I was forced into quitting. This occurred when I was injured when an unsecure pallet of 2k lbs broke while I was working on it. I was injured and have permanent nerve damage now in my leg and lower back making walking, standing, and sitting painful. I can no longer lift one of my arms above my head for extended periods of time. While on medical leave I was given a certified letter on 5pm on a friday which stated that I had 24 hours to bring to them an update of my medical information or they would consider it as me quitting. It is not possible to see an occupational therapist on a saturday when their hours are only mon-fri. On monday, at 7:30 in the morning I returned to the store and gave them the paperwork. They informed me that they don't know anything about the paperwork and that they were told a month prior that I had quit. All my information was already removed and placed that I had quit without notification, leaving me unavailable for re-employment with that company. I used to work for walmart when Sam Walton was alive. When minimum wage was $5.25/hour. I started then at $11.50/hour and was given time and a half on weekends, double time on sundays, and percentage based wages with some of the best medical care available. I left after Sam's death. When I returned to the exact same position some years later, I was given a wage of $7.25/hour (minimum wage), no overtime compensation, no weekend premium, static raises of 5, 10, or 50 cents an hour, and no medical care for the first year of employment. Sam would be ashamed of his children, nearly as ashamed as the employees are.

Walmart are a company I refuse to buy from because of their excessive profits and minimal salaries. Please stop shopping there. Also their backing for GM makes me avoid them

Traitor to America

I remember when they falsely proclaimed that they sold American made products-- and were busted for it. Back in the 70's (?). And it has only gotten worse. Therefore I never shop at Walmart.

The economic divide must end

I am a part of the business sector that is able to earn a good income. It pains me to see not everyone can benefit from a healthy paying job. Walmart must stop being an accomplice in the economic divide, and it must provide workers with fair pay and compensation for their honest work efforts.

Walmart makes their profits from the low wages they pay their workers.This is bad for the entire working class in the USA.

Squeezing out the good-paying jobs

Walmart came to Tacoma and  immediately the nearby Top Foods shut down.  So we lost good-paying, union jobs and gained low-paying Walmart jobs subsidized through our taxes.

I've never been employed by or affiliated with Walmart in any way.  I'm just a regular consumer who's vision is still clear enough to see what's going on … I recall when Walmart first came onto the retail scene.  Mr. Walton used to tout American-made products at higher volume and, as one might expect, it was a winning philosophy.  Sadly, Sam Walton's vision is only a memory now.  Walmart has become nothing more than a storefront for Chinese-made goods and, as far as their labor practices go, the employees they've used to become the largest retailer in human history are little more than the tracks that the Walmart train rolls over … In short, if you wish to see this monopoly continue to swallow up every consumer outlet imaginable -- clothing, household goods, auto parts, groceries, even restaurants -- continue to spend your hard-earned at your local Walmart.  If you care about your local economy, on the other hand, make every attempt to stay away from this heartless conglomerate.  There's only one way to bring this monopoly under control: spend less at Walmart.

In the Walmart economy, Associates and many other low-wage workers face a range of scheduling difficulties: lack of control over the timing of hours, schedules that are assigned at the last minute, hours that fluctuate radically from week to week or month to month, involuntary part-time work, and nonstandard schedules.  An issue brief from the National Women’s Law Center, “Collateral Damage: Scheduling Challenges for Workers in Low-wage Jobs and Their Consequences” explains these problems and their particular impact on women.

Walmart wages set wages for other retail, be they the union supported local markets like Stater Bros, national chains like Kroger.  We are ALL affected by the Walmart economy, whether we shop there or not.

The only way to affect change is to choose where possible other places to shop.  If walmart has its way there will be nowhere else to shop.  Choose service over price.  Choose to patronize businesses that pay a living wage.

It is morally not acceptable to pay employees less than they need to sustain themselves without needing assistance from the government.Taxpayers pay and your greedy owners benefit. Shame on you.
