✱ THREAT

Small, four-legged felines that meow and purr. Cats have a tail, pointy ears, and whiskers. There are different breeds of cats found across the United States. Before the Great War, domestic cats were one of the most popular household pets owned by humans. They were known for their companionship and for hunting common household pests, such as rats. Cats survived the nuclear holocaust but were hunted down by the post-War peoples for their meat, and fur. This does not mean, however, that cats are extinct. Like before the war, cats are usually found in human settlements, or wherever people are living. They will flee when confronted with combat situations.

// BUZZARD

✱ THREAT

Buzzard serve the same purpose they did before the war - they eat dead flesh. They are often feared as an omen of upcoming death, especially because they are only ever seen when dead flesh is around or soon to come. Buzzards rarely mess with anything living but they will peck at things that try to take their food away. Buzzard's are the size of a young child.

// BRAHMIN

✱ THREAT

Brahmin are very weak animals that have been domesticated and herded throughout the years since the war. Occasionally they can be seen wandering around in herds, but this is rare. Through their domestication, they have been used primarily for meat and milk, and their hides are tanned to make leather. Traders use them to carry heavy loads, and some people keep them as pets. As a result of the constant exposure to radiation, these formerly normal cows have sprouted a second independent head. Ironically, when Brahmin are born with only one head, they are called mutated. Brahmin also have eight stomachs. Their skin has turned a toasty, dusty orange-red color from the fallout exposure and their horns have become a dirty brown. Their udder has also grown abnormally large (almost dragging on the ground). When Brahmin attack, they utilize their horns and batter into a foe. This is not highly damaging but is still noticeable. When a Brahmin is killed, it will let out a loud bellow and flop to the ground.

// BLOATFLY

✱ THREAT

Bloatflies are largely docile but can be territorial. They are usually found around graveyards or pools of radiated water in groups of three to five. Weak by nature, their attacks have very little effect. Their main attack consists of spitting spiked larvae at a predator from a distance. They are relatively easy to kill in close combat, even if the character lacks any substantial skill in Unarmed or Melee Weapons, as they have very little health. However, it can be a bit tricky to hit them with a ranged weapon as they tend to move rapidly in sporadic patterns. Unlike most other creatures, bloatflies will often leave you alone if you walk away.

// BIRDS

✱ THREAT

There are many kinds of birds in the wasteland. However, most have relatively the same appearance as birds from before the Great War. They seem to be one of the few creatures to be visually unaffected by radiation. Most birds are not considered with an enemy and will fly away if anything tries to get near it (approximately 10–15 feet).

// BIGHORNER

✱ THREAT

Bighorners are mutated bighorn sheep. Humans have since domesticated them for their horns, meat, milk, and hides, but wild herds can be found in mountainous regions, usually in close proximity to banana yucca fruit, which bighorners love. Bighorners are herbivorous and are primarily found in wild herds of three to seven. They are communal animals; if one member of the herd is distressed, the entire herd becomes aggressive. They are generally "laid-back" beasts with surprisingly docile dispositions, in spite of being quite capable of being extremely dangerous when provoked. In combat situations, bighorners are rarely outright hostile. They will not attack unless something comes within 4–5 feet of them or their young. If this barrier is trespassed, they will rear their heads up and bellow, at which point they will charge and ram into their foe. Their head-butting attacks are devastating, capable of sending enemies flying backward or knocking them down. Bighorners can also run very fast, this makes them a very intimidating foe.

// BEAST

✱ THREAT

Beasts are Minotaur-like creatures that tower at around 7-8ft tall on average. Their bodies are completely covered in fur. When angry they will stomp their large hooves into the ground with enough force to rattle the earth. In battle, Beasts will let out a terrifying roar before charging with their horns pointed forward and will claw and bite when in range. It's speculated that many originated from Vault 079 but that has yet to be confirmed. Most Beasts are hostile when provoked but some have shown what is assumed as 'human intelligence'.

// BARK SCORPION

✱ THREAT

They are easily identified from other species of radscorpion by their light, yellow-brown carapace and the fact that they are much smaller than the larger radscorpion. Bark scorpions tend to hang back and try to flank it's prey if at all possible. This is made worse by their tendency to jump short distances if they detect prey that's gotten too close in a hurry. If encountered in numbers, they frequently try to surround their intended target. They are often found in groups of 3-4, basking in sunny areas along highways and outside of towns. The Bark scorpions venom is deadly, as even one sting can kill.

// ANGLER

✱ THREAT

Anglers are mutated creatures that can usually be found living in swamps or rivers where lure weed is present, sometimes hiding under the surface to ambush prey. The fleshy bioluminescent growth atop its head (called illicium) acts as a camouflage for the predator, effectively disguising it as the surrounding lure weed to fool its prey. The angler is an aggressive creature with the ability to absorb the fog and spit it out like a fireball, inflicting incendiary damage to any target it is able to hit. In combat, they often rely on these long ranged attacks but have been observed to charge at their prey and use their claws, though often they will halt mid-charge to use their preferred method. Sometimes, the angler's head can be visible under the surface and mistaken for these leaves from afar, but will remain submerged until the prey is close enough. Getting too close will alert the angler, causing it to spring from the water and engage.

The Bronze Brotherhood is a group made-up of strong males who band together to protect the Wastelanders; generally focusing on other males. They are often called in when there is word of marital abuse, child predators or slavers, or an infestation. Luxo’s Legion is their biggest foe and they have little to no forgiveness for their actions – their only goal is to save those that have been captured. The Brotherhood crosses the Wasteland in search of others to recruit and will accept anyone so long as they have strong will and desire to protect those of the wastes. Although the Brotherhood generally focuses on males, they have been known to save girls and take them to the nearest Sisterhood camp. They generally wander in big groups with at least one leader, a vice-leader, members and a few children depending. While mostly noble, there have been a few members who have taken their role to the extreme and needed discipline. Most have a preference for swords and bows, but they are not against using firearms when needed.

A fairly ruthless(when needed), antihero-esque group started by and led by one man. Compared to the other factions, the Black Jackals are considerably new and their rise of power happened much faster than most. The group is comprised mostly of men but there are a few females hidden in the mix; the leader having no-judgement of the sexes, men just seem to be more generally available to serve. They are a jack of all trades: drug trafficking, assassinations, security and so on - which is likely why they became so know, so fast. If you need something done then it’s very likely that there is a member who can do it. The Jackals are one of the smaller factions but are growing more and more each day. Their relationship with the other factions is always changing but the leaders attempt to keep in decently good terms. At least enough so that there isn’t a fight everytime contact is made.

The Church of Hellfire is a questionable faction that is located in The Cathedral. Many of its members come from Vault 023 which is located underneath it. The Church’s leader is a man who claims to have a desire of spreading love and peace across the Wasteland, but anyone who has seen him behind closed doors knows better. Despite this, many are blind to the churches underhanded and deceiving ways, instead, following a silver-tongued man of god. Refugees and those accused of crimes come to the Church seeking enlightenment and help. Some suspect the faction to be a cult of sorts.

Luxo’s Legion is the most brutal and unforgiving faction in the Wasteland. They wander around attacking any camps they find ━ taking all the supplies, burning everything to the ground and enslaving any who survived the initial attack. Many are sold at auctions for caps while others are used as pack mules and servants. All slaves are forced to wear explosive collars that detonate when out of range of the remote or manually should their enslaver feel inclined. If a slave becomes old, sick, or too much trouble then they are usually killed since they likely won’t make much of a profit. For many members, money, power, or status is the only thing they care about ━ that or they join because it's their only option. Luxo Legion members often wear animal skulls, leather and carry lanterns at night when traveling; the smell of death follows them.

The Republic of the Queen is a group built around the old school values surrounding a Queen they read about in a pre-war book. They strive to make the Wasteland a safe place to live for all while still maintaining a position in charge. Despite their good-natured intent, they sometimes come off as arrogant since they want to be the ones to clean up the Wasteland, not the other Factions. Still, they try their best to win the public’s favor. Their lineage has remained within one family since its creation and it is always a female to be in charge. There is a Queen’s Court of all her most trusted and useful servants, all of which have devoted themselves to her care and wishes. The faction has major problems with Luxo’s Legion, often butting heads with the Wild Wailers and Black Jackals, as well.

Luxo's Legion

The Toy Tinkers are the go-to group when you need something made or repaired. Nearly all supply caches of weapons, armor or computers/robots have been worked on by them. Because of their usefulness, Tinkerers are accepted and respected by nearly every other faction, effectively protecting them from any cross-faction wars. Anytime someone has attempted to attack them, the other factions have come to the rescue to maintain good-faith with the Tinkerers. This has even resulted in Luxo’s Legion working with the Brotherhood/Sisterhood before. As a whole, the Toy Tinkerers claim no main alliance to anyone, wishing to remain as a true neutral, but some members play favoritism by helping out a certain Factions more than others. The Toy Tinkerers are also likely the ones who have reprogrammed some of the Securitrons with new personalities and sent them out into the Wasteland. While a fair amount of members have begun working with computers, there are a select few who work with synths. The Toy Tinkerers will take in anyone as long as they are good with their hands and don’t start trouble.
