What motivates The Phuego?
If you know me for more that 5 seconds you know that I want to know what your passion is… & then I want to know what you’re doing to achieve said passion. I can be a bit obnoxious with my support because I know the importance of support for a vision to come to fruition.
Boxers need a corner, athletes need fans, Christians need accountability. We essentially are in the middle of the ladder of success. Those ahead of us are our mentors, coaches, trainers, elders leading us through.
Those beneath us are those who are pushing us. Fans, friends, cheerleaders that lift our moral during the fight when we can’t go to our corner for our trainers support. Those who randomly say: Keep up the great work.
Success isn’t a single act, it is multiple acts repeated daily! It takes multiple unnoticed actions before you reach success because it is the journey not the destination. (Those are all the cheesy success bumper sticker quotes that I could remember off the top) *shrugs*
So what motivates The Phuego?
I motivate myself by failing & failing OFTEN! I would much rather try & fail than fail to try. So to motivate myself I constantly think about the type of life I want to give my future wife, my children & family. I have photographs cut out of what type of home I’d like to live in, car I would like to drive, non profits I’d like to start. I never focus on dollar amounts though. I refuse to chase money. What I am chasing is comfortable lifestyle that would afford me the opportunity to be a blessing to someone else.
#NOdaysOff: though I didn’t actually invent the saying I adopted it like a ginger step child. It speaks so loudly to me. It means that the grind is not stop. How badly do you want to succeed? Are you willing to work night & day? Are you really willing to sacrifice your social life?
Although I like many other Christians don’t agree with the message that lil Wayne preachers (yes it is preaching) what i DO agree with & respect is that mans ethic! He lives in the studio. When he is on the road there is a studio on the bus. So #NDO is my schedule because it is true what they say; when you see a successful individual what you’re looking at is a diamond that’s been through the process & realized that the only thing that comes to a sleeper is a dream.
It takes faith AND works…
One of the most radical things I have ever done to motivate myself is what I am currently doing…
Although business is currently quite fruitful (quick praise dance)…………(ok I’m done)…….(hold up)…….(now…op wait….ok NOW I’m done)
I have decided that until the launch of my company during this portfolio building stage for my directing, filming, photography & graph design. I would not own a bed. 0_0
Where do I sleep?… On the floor! Some people would consider that to be extreme. When people come over they always look around & say “uhh where is your bed?” My response: I don’t have one! As though it were a normal response!
Why did I decide to do that?
It pushes me! It reminds me of the time that I spent going from church members home to church members home because I couldnt find work. On the floor!
It reminds me of the Roach infested home we used to live in before my mother became an RN. On the floor!
It reminds me of the helplessness that I felt when I woke up in tears from the hunger pains. On the floor!
I will never forget when I woke up wondering if God was with me & if so why did I have to steal to eat?
When I wake up off that floor I’m am motivated to never have to sleep on another floor by force AGAIN!
neither will my sons or my daughters!
That floor is my mentor a constant reminder that things start with it! The roof goes on last but a foundation is built from the ground up! Does my back hurt in the morning? Hell yes!! Will I pay for it when I get older… probably! But the pain is self inflected as a reminder that this vision will take blood swear & tears. I have shed all 3!
Unforgiving & stern that floor is teaching me daily.
So what motivates The Phuego?
The Floor…
