November 17th, 1989 - The Little Mermaid's 35th Anniversary!

35 years ago on Sunday, an effervescent young mermaid with a bubbly personality made her debut on the animated feature scene, forever altering the course of Disney animation. The Little Mermaid marked a return to Disney’s storytelling roots as the first full-length production to draw inspiration from a classic fairy tale in three decades.

“This story is different from any fairy tale Disney has ever done,” Disney Legend Glen Keane, the directing animator primarily responsible for Ariel, said. “The heroine feels more real and relatable. What she desires may seem impossible, but hopefully, the audience becomes so invested in her determination that they’ll root for her success.”

I don't think there was a contest for me, Tiana's first green wedding dress is absolutely stunning?? The green is so gorgeous, it sparkles, the colours are everything!! The second one was a bit of a disappointment in comparison.

who wouldn't want to be a gorgeous redhead mermaid who gets to live out her dream to the fullest? i absolutely adore ariel, our first disney renaissance princess whose facial expressions are just too adorable to put into words. i won't get into the petty hate she gets but do remember, before "under the sea" started she was literally saying things like "i'll swim up to his castle, then flounder will splash around to get his attention-" it didn't matter to her whether she's meeting eric as a mermaid or human<3
