I'm an Animal Behavior & Cognition major at Hampshire College, with a focus on enrichment studies. My dream is to work with large carnivores in a free-contact scenario. My current passion involves cow-nose stingrays. I'm designing and hopefully implementing studies of their cognitive capacity this school year. I've been training canines for about a decade. Most of my time is spent contra dancing, but I also do folk and ballroom and blues. I'm learning to bellydance, and after that my goal is to focus on modern styles. When I dance, I am truly at peace. I am silly, spontaneous and sensuous. I am incomplete without a dog at my side and a cat in my bed. I am chaotic neutral, but well intentioned. My hair is a separate, sentient being that spirals into ringlet curls when it feels like and curls in upon itself into dreads when it's being naughty. When I dream, it is in images and longing. I have found Satori. I always have believed that for all the words in the world, a person can’t “explain themself”. To learn about another is to share experiences with them. So come talk to me. Well today was hell. So much for allergen-free housing. My bed was growing. So nopes, not on campus, and all of it dealt with without having slept. And then on facebook photos of you and mutual friends pop up and break my heart because I miss you and you haven't even contacted me since I drove away.

Let me tell you a story.

It's the short story of a girl who showed up with a rose to tell a boy she loved him, and found him too worried about losing an opportunity to see his friends tomorrow to really tell her goodbye even though she's leaving for pretty much good. He doesn't know when he'll see her again, and she can't tell if she cares. So she gave him the rose and told him she loved him, and then kissed him goodbye and walked him walk away. She doesn't know if it made him sad, her leaving, but she sat and cried. She loves him. And there's no real happy ending to this part of the story.

Karma Rescue sure has a lot of adopted dogs wearing choke chains and prong collars at the same time. They also have a lot of adoptable dogs that wear choke chains and prong collars at the same time. Do they teach a special class on how to maximize pain while training dogs?

Even their dogs that passed the Canine Good Citizen test wear prong collars and choke collars simultaneously.

Bonus: Cesar Millan disciple, Cheri Lucas, walking lots of dogs on correction collars, two of whom were adopted from Karma Rescue.

Science demands that you stop calling this kid the ‘Marmot Whisperer’

Have you heard tell of the Marmot Whisperer? That’s him pictured up top. Photos of the boy — who goes by Matteo Walch — have been doing laps around the internet the last few days — an eight year old child from Innsbruck sharing meals, touching noses, hanging out and having a good time. With marmots. In the mountains of Austria.

The media would have you believe that it’s not your fault you can’t pal around with marmots, and that this Matteo character can, because Matteo is touched. Magical, if you will. So, being the jealous fun-ruiner that I am, I decided to look into just how magical Matteo really is.

So I just woke up mid-panic attack or something. Insanely stressed out and can't figure out why. I swear to god my body thinks my flight was this morning instead of tomorrow because ohmygod I just can't focus. And, y'know, sleep is a good thing since I'll be up until about 6:30 AM tomorrow if all plans are go. I was going to get up at noon so that wasn't too insane.

So instead I just looked up taxi fares and a post office and all the details of errands I need to run today and now I would really just like to go back to sleep. Goddamn body.

It's time to do something absolutely crazy.

Doing this with balls out, I guess.

There's a lot that's happened since I've written anything, but basically, boythings are much more resolved. He's been having enough issues that while how things happened wasn't good, it's understandable and I'm willing to move past that. We somehow sort of decided without talking about it that distance isn't a thing and that friendship is a go. And thinking about it later, I realized we never talked about it and that we fell back into the swing of our relationship immediately even though we called it friends. He means the world to me. And I'm not willing to give up on that. So I'm going to catch him tomorrow and tell him how much he means and how much I want to try distance, even though it's not ideal.

And I'm going to do it fantastically.

I'm going to show up on his doorstep tomorrow night with a rose, because while I'm baring my heart to him I might as well go all the way and complete the cliche. I might sing at him too, or something. And then I'll get in a car and drive to the airport and go back to school. I'm terrified of showing up and asking him to do the distance. We never really talked about why it wouldn't or couldn't happen - the only thing I know from before is that he doesn't know if he could do it, but at the time he wanted to try because he didn't want to lose me. And I don't want to lose him. So the cliches and the jokes just make it easier to plan, I guess. It'll be a great story either way.

I'm bringing him a fucking rose, bitches.
