「 You think you care about me ?」
Laslow gives him quite the serious stare, taking in the words of his question. He wanted the prince to trust him. After all, he may have been the Crown Prince’s retainer in the opposing kingdom, but he never held a personal grudge against the other’s inhabitants. There was no reason to. His job was to protect and support his liege. Simple as that– well, almost as simple as that. He had one more task in this world, but that’s irrelevant.
“Well, I don’t think I care– I do. I cherish all of my friends– or is that too personal for you? Does ‘allies’ sound a bit more comforting? Either way, the same principle applies. ”
Gods, he hopes that didn’t sound too corny. It was hard to speak so… vulnerably with royalty. No, he can’t worry about how embarrassing that sounds. A friend made today could be gone tomorrow, even if it is someone as talented as him. Death didn’t care about talent. His own losses are his proof.
