Do you know the feeling when an artist catches you within moments of a show?

“One of the biggest surprises of the event was ASH DA HERO, a solo musicians with a strong, charismatic Rock voice and his equally skilled support musicians. The audible soundcheck already gave an appetizing foretaste of the instrumentalists who know their craft for sure. Then, the first song, You Gotta Power, hit with a piercing impact as it was hard and heavy and showed the singing style and temper of the artist right away.”

“The name of [VALS’] casting enterprise, Ike V Project, hints at the aspect of good looks that are more important nowadays than ever. An ikemen (イケメン) is a handsome man and bands such as CLØWD express this particular coolness, which can also be associated with hosts who entertain women in host clubs and bars.”

This October, X Japan hosted the VISUAL JAPAN SUMMIT 2016 with a total of fiftyfive artists, showing that the Visual-kei is loud and alive. With our coverage of the event, we are giving you broad insights into this huge, complex scene. We split it into six articles, arranged in a historical and thematic manner instead of the timetable’s order. This way, it is much easier to present coherences and provide further information about each act beyond the performances to spark your interest in artists that are not on your radar yet.
