Local Lens: Reflections of Singapore’s Changing Cityscape

“The places I can go are limited,” says Instagrammer Yafiq Yusman (@_yafiqyusman_) of his tiny island-nation home of Singapore, “but the photo possibilities are limitless.”

Yafiq, who studied architecture in college, enjoys capturing Singapore’s rapidly evolving urban landscape through puddles left by the city’s tropical climate. “Singapore is a modernized country, but there are still places where you can see the olden days,” says Yafiq. “The alleys in Little India, China Town and Boat Quay are a few of my favorite spots and great for puddle shots.”

For more modern photo opportunities, Yafiq favors Raffles Place, a square surrounded by the city’s tallest buildings. And for those seeking respite from Singapore’s fast-paced metropolis, he suggests tracking down a hidden reserve called Punggol Beach. “The best time to visit is during the sunset. It’s beautiful.”

God Wants You to Know

you can only give away what you already have inside yourself.

True giving happens when you are overflowing from the inside, and cannot help but share. When there is so much love within you that it has to flow to others or you would burst open. There is no thinking involved, no willpower in such sharing. It just flows out. If you have to force yourself to be kind, to love, to feel compassion, you've missed the first step of filling in your own self with these emotions.

The little things

Apparently I had a look of confusion or distress while standing in Penn station waiting for the track number to appear on the reader board when I was actually trying to zip my shoulder bag from an awkward position. In any event a worker passed by asking if I was okay and if everything was alright. I laughed and replied yes and he kinda lingered for moment and quietly asked where I was headed. He whispered and pointed to which track I need to be and I headed in that direction. At first I couldn't understand why it was top secret until the boards flashed which track and a mob formed instantly behind me...ah! As I entered an empty train cart, easily lifted my 50 pound bag onto one of two lower racks, chose a window seat and realized that man just made my morning. Enjoy route to Washington, DC

What I've learned today while traveling from Long Island into the Big city is not to take the elevators in the subway-they smell like straight urine.

The skies above Virginia.

I think one of my favorite parts of flying is flying through the clouds. There is something so amazing when viewing an endless blanket of clouds from above and that feeling of being so close in God's kingdom.

Yesterday I left West Palm Beach heading to Fairfax Virginia where I sought out to begin the rest of my life; for my career that is.

For me, this image represents a clear sign that I'm headed on the right path; giving thanks and being grateful, but also, knowing that I'm purposefully walking in the right direction.
