(Happy belated birthday, Lan Wanji)
I swear that at one point I will write a proper long-form fic about WWX trying to regain his golden core. This is not that fic.
Thank You!
The last day of Wangji Week 2020 has ended! We hope everyone had a nice experience creating and following everyone's work throughout the week.
We will still be accepting entries until the 30th of January for anyone who still want to post their work/s.
We really enjoyed seeing all the love and hard work you guys put into this event. Thank you all for making this event possible! ♡
Wangji Week
Day 7: Free Day
—
Lan Wangji sleeps in an hour past his usual time. But it’s okay, because he has the day off, and it’s his birthday.
It’s nice, to open his eyes to see that the sun has already risen. He stretches languidly, before he even sits up. The sheets are still warm with Wei Wuxian’s scent, although his lover is curiously absent.
It’s especially curious, since Wei Wuxian also has the day off.
But Lan Wangji doesn’t have to wait long to figure out where Wei Wuxian could have gone. Just as he’s stifling a yawn, the door slides open, and Wei Wuxian and A-Yuan charge at him as one.
“Fuqin!” A-Yuan cries, at the same time Wei Wuxian says, “Lan Zhan!”
They both tackle him back to the bed, undoing his half-hearted attempt to sit up. But Lan Wangji can’t complain, when both his son and boyfriend are pressing kisses to his face.
They pull back, eerily in sync with one another. This effect is heightened by the fact that they are wearing the matching bunny rabbit footie pajamas Wen Ning recently bought them. They have the hoods pulled up, with the posable ears folded identically at the tips.
“Happy birthday!” They chorus at the same time.
“Happy birthday,” echos a quieter voice. Lan Wangji doesn’t have to look to know that Wen Ning is hovering awkwardly in the doorway.
Lan Wangji sits back up, and pulls A-Yuan and Wei Wuxian into a softer, less frenzied embrace. He plants kisses on both of their brows, and whispers against their skin, “Thank you. Thank you.”
“What are you thanking us for?” Wei Wuxian laughs, “We haven’t even given you your presents yet!”
“No presents until after cake,” A-Yuan reminds Wei Wuxian sternly. It was A-Yuan’s fifth birthday just last week, and he very clearly remembers them telling him the same thing.
That makes Lan Wangji laugh. “Right,” he says, and gives A-Yuan an affectionate pat on the head, “No presents until after cake.”
A-Yuan grins wide enough to showcase his very first missing tooth.
“Fine, fine,” Wei Wuxian says, “We’ll wait to open gifts. For now, let’s head to the dining table. I made my Lan Zhan a very special breakfast.”
“I helped!” A-Yuan chimes in.
At the threshold to the room, Wen Ning coughs into his fist. “I have to head into work,” he says, “but I’ll be back for dinner. I hope you have a nice birthday.”
Lan Wangji finally looks at Wen Ning.
The two of them share an odd dynamic. They live in the same apartment, and they’re dating the same man. They’re also connected through Wen Yuan, Wen Ning’s second cousin and Lan Wangji’s recently adopted son. Despite all the threads linking them together, they’re still getting to know one another.
“Thank you,” Lan Wangji says, sincerely.
“Ah, you’re already leaving?” Wei Wuxian scrambles off the bed and rushes to Wen Ning.
Lan Wangji almost wants to look away, but he doesn’t. He agreed to this unconventional arrangement. He won’t allow his jealousy to ruin Wei Wuxian’s happiness.
Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning hug. “Have a good day, A-Ning,” Wei Wuxian sing-songs.
“You, too,” Wen Ning replies. “Goodbye, A-Yuan. Be good.”
“Okay!” A-Yuan chirps merrily.
Wen Ning leaves, and Lan Wangji becomes the center of attention once more. A-Yuan pulls on the fabric of Lan Wangji’s shirt. “C’mon, Fuqin,” he says, “Get up! It’s breakfast time.”
“Okay,” Lan Wangji agrees. To be honest, he’s not entirely excited about breakfast. He’s always willing to eat whatever Wei Wuxian cooks, but that doesn’t mean that it’ll taste any good. Most of the time, if it’s not too spicy, it’s just plain overcooked. There’s a reason Wei Wuxian didn’t go into the culinary field like his siblings.
The three of them head to the table as a family. To Lan Wangji’s surprise, the food on the table is neither blood red nor burnt. In fact, it looks reassuringly bland.
“Tell me what you think,” Wei Wuxian says.
Lan Wangji sits down at his usual spot. There is a warm bowl of tofu pudding in front of him — one of his secret pleasure treats from childhood. It’s been paired with a mug of soybean milk and a plate of mixed greens. He takes an experimental taste of the pudding, and is shocked to find that it has been flavored with a light ginger syrup.
It tastes just like how his Muqin used to make it. Lan Wangji tears up involuntarily. But he never told Wei Wuxian about this.
“Did my Xiongzhang give you the recipe?” Lan Wangji guesses.
Wei Wuxian smiles sheepishly. “He did more than just give it to me,” he admits, “Lan Xichen gave me lessons. Multiple lessons. I told him not to give up until I made it perfectly.”
Lan Wangji can see the scene in his mind: Lan Xichen coaching an overexcited Wei Wuxian in the kitchen. Affection warms his heart. He loves this man so, so much.
A-Yuan is now digging into his own bowl with vigor.
“Thank you,” Lan Wangji says. He gets the sense that he will be repeating that phrase a lot today.
Wei Wuxian melts. “I’m so glad you like it. Now, eat up! I have many more surprises in store for you. You’re going to be the most spoiled man alive by the time I’m done with you.” His eyes twinkle with a dangerous level of mirth.
Lan Wangji sighs. But he knows he will love every last one of them. And then he says, “For now.”
“For now...?”
“Yes, for now.” Lan Wangji meets Wei Wuxian’s shimmering silver eyes. “Until your next birthday. Then you will become the most spoiled.”
Wei Wuxian blinks. And then he laughs, delighted. “You’re on!”
In Between Measures
Fandom: The Untamed/MDZS Pairing: WangXian Summary: A story about the melodies that shaped Lan Wangji’s life (feat. Lan family feels, WangXian pining, non-stop mentions of the guqin, disciple shenanigans, and chonky Fairy slander).
Note: Written for Wangji Week Day 2: Music! A birthday gift. <3
His mother was speaking now, but her voice had become a melody that blended with the sound of the guqin, and drowsiness made it difficult for him to distinguish one from the other. He could only catch brief parts of what she was saying, but before he fully lost his senses to sleep, he managed to understand one thing.
“Whatever you play is a reflection of your heart, so only play for those who will listen.”

Day Seven • Modern AU (26/01)
For @wangjiweek
Ship: Wangxian
Rated: E/NC-17
Warnings: 7 minutes in heaven; Modern AU; Underage (they’re teenagers); somewhat cracky; everyone is a little gay tbh; first kiss; make out; masturbation.
Lan Qiren had gone to a trip regarding work, and to Wei Wuxian it could only mean one thing: a party at his dorm room at their boarding school. He had invited his closest friends, but a few others had made their way into his room, making it quite packed of people, but it was still very exciting.
Wei Wuxian managed to bring some alcohol to their party, although he wouldn’t tell anyone how exactly he did it.
The party had barely started when there was a knock on the door. Wei Wuxian, laughing at something someone said, stood up and opened the door with a huge smile, but he froze for a moment when he saw who was at the door.
“Lan Zhan!” Everyone behind him went quiet and Wei Wuxian tried to lower his hand so Lan Wangji wouldn’t see the vodka bottle in his hand, but it was no use, the other boy was frowning at the bottle. Trying to laugh it off, Wei Wuxian brought a hand to Lan Wangji’s shoulder. “Come on in! We’re having a party!” He tugged the boy inside, and Lan Wangji almost tripped over his own feet, ears and cheeks flushing in embarrassment.
“Wei Ying!” He reprimanded, but Wei Wuxian could only smile. “It’s forbidden to drink at the—” He stopped speaking when he noticed his brother, of all people, there. “Xichen?”
“Wangji, do join us.” Lan Xichen said with a smile, and Wei Wuxian took that as an invitation to tug Lan Wangji until the boy was still on the floor next to Wei Wuxian.
“So, as I was saying…” Nie Huaisang started again a moment later. “We should start with seven minutes in heaven and then truth or dare.” Wei Wuxian was nodding vehemently.
“Agreed! It’s funnier to do dares or say the truth while drunk!” He laughed, chugging more of the vodka.
“Everyone in agreement, then?” Jiang Cheng asked, and everyone nodded.
Wei Wuxian was excited. He had never had a first kiss yet, and he was already sixteen years old – and he was a very flirty person, but for some reason, it never happened. So now, he was expecting to have his first kiss with a pretty girl. Maybe Mianmian, who was very funny and tenacious, but he wasn’t picky.

The Untamed / MDZS / Lan Wangji POV / WangXian / Wangji Week 2020
~
Retracing the steps of bygone days (and walking into the future)
Day 7: Free Day
~
He has dreams, oftentimes, of what life could have been. Some are good, some are bittersweet.
And some... are outright nightmares.
If only he'd accepted Wei Ying's friendship earlier.
If only he'd have tried harder to help him when he stepped off the righteous path.
If only he'd have gone with him, that night on QiongQi Road, instead of just allowing Wei Ying and the Wen remnants to pass. Or if only he'd have stopped them.
He dreams of a life where he had the courage to tell Wei Ying what was really in his heart, where he would pull the boy close and kiss him breathless, and never let him go.
He dreams of a life where he and Wei Ying never really got to become the friends they wound up being. Where Wei Ying died, destroyed by his own dark cultivation, thinking that Wangji hated him, that he's always hated him.
Sometimes, he dreams that they fell off that cliff together.
Sometimes, he dreams that Wei Ying never came back.
Or that he did, but he came back… wrong.
Yes, Wangji dreams.
But nothing, absolutely nothing, no dream, no nightmare, nothing compares to waking up each morning with his arms around Wei Ying, alive and beautiful and his.

Day 7 (Jan 26): Free day!
Quite possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever written. Please enjoy some silliness to balance out all the angst and pining of earlier WangjiWeek!
So I Married a Bunny Shifter
Wei Wuxian walked back towards the Jingshi; twirling Chenqing in his fingers. He had left Lan Wangji alone briefly to deliver a letter to Lan Sizhui that had arrived with one for himself, both from Jin Ling, pausing only to chat briefly with the junior before making his way back to join his husband. They had been making plans to take the juniors on a night hunt to deal with some reported ghost activity in a nearby village before Jin Ling’s communication had arrived; Lan Wangji had suggested they take a break so Wei Wuxian could read his letter and deliver A-Yuan’s, but now Wei Wuxian was ready to continue with their original task.
He entered the Jingshi, expecting Lan Wangji to be waiting for him; there was no sign of him. But there was a pure white rabbit on the table nibbling on a heart of lettuce. He moved over to the table to prop his face up on his hand and watch the rabbit lazily while he waited for Lan Wangji to return.
Someone had put a tiny white Lan clan headband on the rabbit and he grinned at the absurdity. It looked so cute.

Wangji Week 2020 Day 7
Free day - Eldritch AU
This follows Day 4 of Wangji Week 2020
Lan Wangji is looking through some paperwork when the slamming of the door announces Wei Wuxian’s arrival.
“Lan Zhan, I’m home!” he also immediately calls out and Lan Wangji can’t help but to smile down at the paper in his hands.
Lan Wangji will never get over the fact that the jingshi is now their home. That Wei Wuxian is living with him, because he loves him, even though he also knows what Lan Wangji is.
“In here,” he calls back, uselessly really, since there aren’t that many places to hide in the jingshi and Wei Wuxian throws himself over Lan Wangji’s back the moment he’s close enough. Lan Wangji doesn’t budge with the force of it, like he would have done a few weeks back, because he knows Wei Wuxian accepts him for what he is.
In fact, it seems like Wei Wuxian is greatly enjoying the fact that Lan Wangji is so much stronger than him, because he has taken to throwing himself at Lan Wangji at all times of the day.
“What boring things are you doing today?” Wei Wuxian wants to know and Lan Wangji shows him the paper.
Wei Wuxian reads the first two sentences and then lets out a pained groan.
“But that is so boring!” he exclaims and Lan Wangji has to agree.
The paperwork is not Lan Wangji’s favourite part of being Chief Cultivator.
“What would you rather do?” Lan Wangji asks, and he grows concerned when Wei Wuxian goes serious in an instant.
“I actually have a question,” Wei Wuxian says as Lan Wangji turns towards him.
“Okay,” Lan Wangji agrees, but Wei Wuxian shakes his head.
“Not here,” he decides and grabs Lan Wangji’s hand to tug him up and away from his desk. “This is for boring work and I’d really much rather cuddle you while asking my question.”
It puts Lan Wangji on edge, hearing that, because Wei Wuxian knows Lan Wangji greatly enjoys cuddles. If Wei Wuxian thinks his question will upset Lan Wangji so much that he needs to counteract it with cuddles immediately, it must be serious.

🤍 Wangji Week 2020 🤍 #5, Bearer of Light
Canon Divergence, Wangxian never met as students
For @syolen, happy birthday ❤
It’s rare to watch the rain at the Cloud Recesses. It snows for a good portion of the year, at any part of the day, obscuring the skies in gray and covering the shivering trees and wilting flowers in frost, the crystals reflecting the shy sunshine when it peaks through the clouds. The rain, however, isn’t non-existent. Like the Gusu Lan disciples that are taught to give back to the world that borne them, the Earth has its way to run its course, to paint the trees in green, to shower on flowing waters in a never-ending circle of life. It rains mostly at night, when the cultivators of Gusu, save for those on patrol or on night hunts, are asleep. It’s a melody drumming on roofs, humming in dreams. Elegant like billowy sleeves, waving like silk curtains by windows. It’s just the sky running its cycle, mindless, uncaring of worldly matters.
On the night the Yiling Patriarch taps on his door, the sky seems to flash, darkening the shadows. The rain feels almost oppressive, as if rejecting the air that blows out of the man’s lungs. Lan Wangji can scarcely believe the black of the man’s clothes, his slim figure accentuated by his drenched state, and the piercing ferocity of his eyes. At his back, lightning flashes again. On his back, a child flinches.
“Second young master Lan,” he says as a greeting, not attempting any kind of formal salute. His voice is raspy, tired, but a blade. “I couldn’t think of anybody else.”
Lan Wangji’s reflexes are the only thing that save him from crashing onto the Quiet Room’s floor, and though he can barely keep himself upright, his arms, painfully stiff at that point, keep on holding onto the child. Caught by reluctant arms, breathing hard against the fabric of Wangji’s clothes, he speaks again, frantic. “An attack is imminent, I couldn’t… A-Yuan, I can’t leave him there, so please…”
As his voice reaches the pitch of desperation, he loses consciousness, leaving Lan Wangji alone with his maddening thoughts. How did he get there? How did he break through the wards without anyone noticing? How did he find him? And why—
“I couldn’t think of anybody else.”
He had fought alongside this man during the Sunshot Campaign. Had seen the wild glint of his eyes, heard the beckoning death song of his flute. He’s seen the trail of blood he leaves with his footsteps, and kept on hearing about it even after he cast himself aside, after he set himself atop the ruins of resentment in Yiling. Looking at him now, Lan Wangji sees only a man and a child, both on their way to certain sickness. A-Yuan. With the Yiling Patriarch? Certainly Wen Yuan. Public enemies, causes of endless discussion between the sects. Demonic cultivator. Wet and cold, curling on themselves at his feet.
“Please…”
Lan Wangji clenches his jaw. Peeking his head through the doors of the Quiet Room, he looks left and right, and upon seeing no one, he closes the three of them off from the world.
The Yiling Patriarch has a lot of explanation to do.

Day 6 (Jan 25): Family ✦ Forehead Ribbon ✦ Future
The sleeping schedule of the Lan clan was as embedded in stone as the many thousand other rules it governed itself by, and normally Lan Wangji would be soundly asleep by now under it’s edicts.
Tonight, however, he lay awake, savouring the feeling of Wei Ying wrapped in his arms, held against his heart. After months of enforced companionship everything was finally settled and instead of going their separate ways as Lan Wangji had been sure Wei Ying would demand, the man he had loved since his youth was in his embrace, sleeping deeply and trustingly against him, entirely of his own free will.
His right hand held Wei Ying’s left against his chest, their wrists tied together by each end of his forehead ribbon which Wei Ying had stolen from him that afternoon prior to meeting Maiden Luo, her husband and her daughter.
It had amused the other greatly to bind them together whilst mocking Lan Wangji for his vinegar drinking; he was an expert at continuously poking until he received a response from Lan Wangji; even if now, thirteen years later, it took much longer to provoke him.
The face Wei Ying wore now hadn’t been the same as that of the boy he had fallen in love with in their youth but he had grown used to it over the past months; everything behind the appearance was still Wei Ying, his mannerisms, his thoughts, his personality, which was why Lan Wangji knew he would never stop being teased by the other, because that was an intrinsic piece of what made Wei Ying. Though he would never admit it aloud to the other Lan Wangji hoped it never stopped again. He had suffered thirteen endless years of mourning where he would have given anything to have the other by his side and taunting him.
He used his free hand to gently stroke Wei Ying’s hair, fingers gliding through the silky strands.
He hadn’t meant to wake the other but Wei Ying stirred, stretched his body, creating interesting but unintentional friction between them, and raised his head to look down at Lan Wangji.
“Lan Zhan, what is it?” he asked, his voice sleep husked and his eyes still drowsy.
“Wei Ying, it’s nothing, sleep” Lan Wangji said, brushing the backs of his fingers against the other’s cheek gently.
Wei Ying moved to cup Lan Wangji’s face in both hands, forcing their joined wrists to move in tandem, “You sleep, how can I sleep if you don’t?” Wei Ying asked then lowered his head to kiss Lan Wangji on the mouth gently; then a second time more firmly until Lan Wangji hummed his appreciation against Wei Ying’s lips.
“I love you, Lan Zhan” he breathed against Lan Wangji’s mouth as he pulled away the most infinitesimal amount.
“Wei Ying, I love you” Lan Wangji responded, he wrapped his arms around the other, taking the other’s arm along with his as they were still bound together by his ribbon.
He would never let this man go ever again; Wei Ying was as much his family now as Lan Xichen or A-Yuan; he had been the past Lan Wangji had mourned, but most importantly he was the future Lan Wangji had always yearned for.
