Masamune and Kenshin’s reactions to getting up for something during the night and coming back to find that their pet is now snuggling with a sleeping MC in his place.
Caught himself in a dream looking for the toilet and tryna do business but he’s been through that a lot of times, so he’s trained to wake up and actually go to the toilet.
He’s very reluctant in letting you go because you feel so good pressed against him like that. Not to mention your looks. Like, you’re 1294439759 times cuter when you sleep. He’s weak to that defenseless look on your face, the way your lips part slightly, the slight stirring and annoyed groan you let out when he slowly pries your arm away from him (again, reluctantly). UGH HE WANTS TO STAY AND WATCH YOU SLEEP BUT HE HAS TO PEE
So stupid, Masamune thinks as he quickly goes to the toilet. The faster the better, because then he can actually go back to bed and cuddle up next to you, and that way he can stare at your sleeping face a little longer—
Masamune pees in record time
Imagine his smug face, extremely proud of his trivial achievement literally dropping when he sees Shogetsu curled up very comfortably against you. He can hear the tiger’s purr from five feet away—he is very comfortable, indeed. Right where Masamune should be. Next to you. Lying beside your body, your huggable, soft, nice-smelling body—
With no mercy he steps closer to the futon, hands ready to pry his pet away from his spot, but oh six hells look at you and Shogetsu???? The two of you make the most precious sight sleeping next to each other like that????
And just like that Masamune is stuck in a difficult predicament: move Shogetsu away, possibly waking him up in the process, to regain his rightful place next to you on the futon, or… just… lie down next to the two of you? There’s no space left for him, but maybe he can fit half of his butt in? Dawn should be coming soon, so it’s not going to be that bad anyway, right?
Just as he prepares himself for an uncomfortable night’s sleep, you let out a soft moan, your eyes slowly opening, trying to adjust your vision to the dark around you. Shogetsu stirs in response. “Masamune…?”
“Hey kitten,” he says coolly. “Sorry I had to leave you. Toilet.”
“It’s fine, dummy, just get back here. It’s kinda cold.”
So that’s settled, then. Masamune slips under the covers, Shogetsu drowsily circling the two of you to find the right spot and deciding that the space on top of your heads would do. You sigh as your lover cuddles up next to you, hands immediately latched on your waist where they belong.
“Night,” you murmur. He murmurs it back, leaving a kiss on your forehead, before the two of you drift off.
Like Masamune, he finds your sleeping face beyond enchanting. To think that he used to think it’s possible for you to be even more beautiful than you already are. But under the stream of moonlight from the half-open sliding door (you wanted to let the night breeze in a little), Kenshin almost believes that you’re not from this world—although technically you aren’t, coming from the future. A sense of melancholy washes over him, as if you’re going to fade away into moon dust and float back to where he can’t reach.
Kenshin snaps out of it, though. He’s over that. He knows that you’re fully present, here, with him, always staying by his side no matter the circumstance. It’s the early hour that hypnotized him momentarily, like he’s not sure if he’s stuck in one of his dreams or if all of this is real.
The need to urinate convinces him that it’s real all right. So he goes and does his business.
It’s still slightly chilly and he already misses the way your skin presses against his, so he hurries back to his quarters, only to find that his spot on the futon has already been conquered by… a pile of snow? But winter is over—
Not snow, he corrects himself mentally when he sees one snowball jump in the air. Rabbits, about a dozen. Some of them patterned brown and black, but mostly white. He watches as they huddle closer to you, presumably for warmth, but even you can feel the movement around you. He sees you sit up, groggy, and your voice is laced with slumber still as you ask him.
“Kenshin…? What’s happening?”
As you try to process the group of rabbits on your futon, their eyes closed contentedly while some still hop around for the perfect spot, Kenshin approaches.
“I’m sorry, love. Perhaps they entered from the garden,” he says, glancing at the sliding door that you left open. Should he carry all these lapins out to the garden and slam the door on their innocent, sleepy faces? It’d allow him to retake his place next to you on the futon, but closing the door means no spring breeze (the breeze does feel exceptionally nice), and even he would feel bad kicking out his own nest of rabbits. Sure, they just started following him around, but a leader never forsakes his devotees.
“They’re probably cold,” you add, feeling a bit more awake now as you stoke a sleeping bunny on your lap. “You should push them away to make room,” comes your suggestion, and sure enough, with a gentle but swift nudge of your hand, the bunnies shift away obediently. Kenshin’s footsteps are precarious and careful, but eventually he’s able to lay down next to you.
“Comfortable?” He nods at your question and you chuckle. The rabbits have all settled down since they’ve stopped wriggling and moving. Kenshin sighs, burying his face in the crook of your neck as he holds your closer against him. Sharing you with his bunnies… the things he goes through for you.
