highguard could have been so cool man. like fr i am lowkey interested in the way most of the gameplay was described and the small clips i've seen of it seems rly cool like it seems like something i would have liked playing at least a little bit. like i would not be at deadlock levels of interest i wouldn't be playing it every day but like. idk if they got a little better at character design and figured out what they wanted their aesthetic to be instead of just shoving guns into the hands of fantasy characters i would have given it a shot probably
It's always going to fill me with a certain anguish because the other character concepts they had in the pipeline were so awesome

(Onyx, she was going to be my favorite out of all of them aside from maybe Mara - all of these retrieved from Christina Ferez's artstation account)
And I think a lot of the wardens designs - visually, they're all improved with skins, but their voicelines and dialogue fit the characters so well that I couldn't imagine some designs being changed. But the voice lines only played at the start of a match - but the voice lines were glitched for a few weeks - so people didn't get the chance to learn more of the actual personalities of the characters or how vibrant they could be despite their base visuals. There was such an incredibly strong story here that was going to be built up into a campaign mode and I wish they'd gotten the chance to finish their roadmap.

Mara, our dark witch. Her powers hold a deep mystery and so does her past. Mara is a legend that stand through time, stuck in a young appearance but as old as the lost continent of Highguard. She has lived many lives, seen people she loved perish while she continued living. Her powers while incredibly strong, could look like a curse to many. Mara's immortality is highly tied to the souls she absorb. Her presence is terrifying but she is not everything she seems to be. Behind her eternal beauty and imposing facade lies a deep reservoir of emotion, wisdom, and loneliness, though few will ever get close enough—or live long enough—to see it. Mara volunteered to become a Warden. Something about the Lost Land holds a familiar feeling she is gravitated towards.

There was a delicate balance we wanted to tread on Mara's design. There's an enormous amount of beauty on her but strangeness and disturbance at the same time. Her pauldrons holds the language of petals while her sleeves are meant to hide what her powers really look like, spikes of dark magic emanate from her arms. Her orbs connected through the design, having a storage for the souls she carry on the back. Her design is a parallelism of her story, a dried flower stuck in time. Her outfit up until the neck, one can imagine how suffocating her burden can feel. (from lead character concept artist Christina Laviña Ferez)

An anonymous client seeks to recover ancient relics from a mysterious civilization known as "The Delvers". These artifacts have recently been discovered in key Vigil sites across Highguard, and their workmanship evidences an advanced knowledge of vesper extraction and metallurgy that exceeds our own. Find and deliver any Delver artifacts to the Vigil, and you will be handsomely rewarded.
