illustrative image because i was thinking about how sex would be perceived in the freljord. also i love sejuani
the above moment is from the comic, and they're still teenagers (there's no actual age that i remember, but from looks i'd put them somewhere around 16ish) throughout the story, so i think it's fair to assume it's not uncommon for people around this age to already be sexually active. more importantly, nothing in the dialogue suggests this would be wrong or frowned upon despite them not being in a relationship, which leads me to think sex isn't a taboo topic, and virginity doesn't matter at all.
i tried to look for information about how cultures the freljord is inspired by, like the vikings, would've seen the topic, and i found nothing too concrete or from sources i can say for sure are reliable, but everything i read suggests it wasn't a taboo topic either, especially because privacy could be scarce among a people who lived in very close communities. from what is said about how tight-knit communities in the freljord are, i think that still holds truth — and that while the avarosans might have a little more privacy with their permanent, stone-built homes, especially when out camping or in the more nomadic groups, there's not that much privacy when you're sharing a tent surrounded by many others.
something i think although brief, this part of the narration also suggests. it's very casual in how it says 'yeah grena took him to her bed thrice and he sired all three of her children' and people knowing that — which is why it's largely assumed yrael was ashe's biological father, even if ultimately that doesn't matter. it does stay in line with the whole idea of little privacy in a very close community, as well as with the idea of sex being seen more casually and not at all as something taboo to discuss. (also sidenote to mention the wording, because she says he was 'honored' and i think it makes sense given her mother's status as warmother, as well as the fact she had many husbands; the idea picking one to sleep with her would be an honor feels like it tracks tbh. not entirely the same but it made me think if tryndamere being ashe's only bloodsworn would also be seen as an honor — one i imagine many people wouldn't approve of being given to him, considering how he's treated by some of the avarosans. anyway. that's a whole other topic)
ashe's just baiting him there and bidding her time (although i do think before this, in a different situation..... they both probably thought about it....... anyway) but ashe's line also suggests it would be expected that, once swearing himself to her, he'd share her bed (which makes sense considering they'd be married but i want to point it out anyway!). when she did get married, she would've been aware of the expectation she would sleep with tryndamere, even if it was an arranged marriage. on top of that, as iceborn and most importantly warmother, it's expected she'll have children eventually who'll succeed her. it was not a matter of if; it was a when. and mars got me thinking about how ashe would go about that part of their relationship.
considering what i said before, about how sex doesn't seem to be a taboo topic and casual sex doesn't seem to be frowned upon, i think that's also how she'd feel about it mostly. i do think ashe would need some time and to be somewhat fond of him, if not in love with him, to want to sleep with trynd. she doesn't need it to necessarily be about love and intimacy; she's okay with it being just because they're attracted to each other and like each other well enough. which led me to think depending on how he feels about it, they'd probably have slept together before they fell in love with each other.
it also got me thinking that it would be different, however, once they do have feelings already — especially before these are made explicit. it just. becoming a lot more intense because it's so emotionally charged. anyway. that wasn't my point i just care them. i just think it'd be likely they slept together before they were really in love with each other because it'd make sense with what we see of their culture and how it seems to be open about sex; but that it'd also be different and more meaningful once they are actually in love with each other.
