     the big NOs when it comes to RP blogs :

non-rp  ( aka personal )  blogs are usually UNWELCOMED —— respect a RP blog’s rules and do not follow if the RP blog says personal blogs are unwelcomed.  but if they are welcomed, be sure to not reblog a RP blog’s posts — because they do NOT operate like a normal blog and need to keep their activity clear!  the blogs’ guidelines will be your safest bet to know these things.

exceeded expectation of your muse is foolish.  don’t go making a muse thinking everyone will flock to them  ( canon or OC in this case ).  don’t expect your followers to reblog your promo and spread word by demand  ( such as leaving IMs or even posts letting them know they can reblog this or that for their sake, etc. ).  this makes a user seem pushy, and rather unpleasant.  no one wants to deal with a bossy mun.  with that said, if someone declines a RP / plot / ship —— NO MEANS NO.

NO GOD-MODDING.  NO INFO-MODDING.  most RP blogs are NOT okay with that —— so when going in blind, remember that.  it’s one of the biggest turn-offs, in which will make a blog less inclined to RP with you.

do not vague another blog, especially if the words are hurtful, and are meant to cause a fight.  a lot of your mutuals may assume the post is about them, which can cause unneeded strain that could have been avoided.  if you have a problem with someone, just send them a message as politely as possible.

if anon is available — USE IT  but do NOT ABUSE IT.  anon, for RP blogs, are there for muns who are too shy to send messages directly, for certain RP memes the mun may reblog / post, etc.  it is not meant for hate, unwanted criticism, etc.  always keep the mun’s feeling in mind when you send in an anon.  a lot of RP blogs LOVE getting random asks, and nothing is more disheartening when we get one full of hatred.

a big portion of the RP community suffers from depression, anxiety, etc. so their RP blogs are usually a form of an escape, in this case.  with that said — THEIR BLOG AND HOW THEY RUN IT IS SOLELY THEIR BLOG.  if you have a problem with headcanons they have for a canon muse, or you simply dislike their OC or a ship they have, LEAVE THEM ALONE.  harassing a mun over their choice of muse and how they choose to RP them is a big asshole move.  just unfollow ; BLOCK if you must!

MUTUALS ONLY MEANS MUTUALS ONLY!  not — “convince me to be mutuals with you!!”.  if a mun does NOT follow you back, then that means you are NOT mutuals.  it’s that simple.  do not attempt to RP with non-mutuals who has this rule.  it’s the biggest pet-peeve in the RPC, in which can have muns feeling anxious, annoyed, or even MORE selective.  they’ll just grow to resent you rather than to consider you.  it’s disrespectful!

don’t follow / unfollow / follow again / etc. to catch a mun’s attention.

if you approach a mun to plot, have more to say then  “rp?”  and such, and actually have an idea.  also make sure the mun you’re messaging is OKAY with being messaged.  reading the guidelines is your best bet to know.

TAG YOUR OOC POSTS.  TAG TRIGGERS.  that’s all there is to it.

make sure your links  ( rules / about / etc. )  are easily accessible & to read / find on your blog.  stating your AGE is very helpful, too.

icons are normally a must for a lot of RP blogs, but they don’t need to be fancy or creative.  the best sort of icon dimensions imo are between 50x50 to 100x100.  anything smaller is TOO small, and anything bigger is TOO big.  however, this can vary by people’s opinions — but this is what i usually see!

with the topic of respecting ships, you also need to respect blogs that have  MAINS / EXCLUSIVES.  do not go after another mun’s ship / rp partners if they are exclusives, and besides — that’s just COMMON COURTESY!

remember this is general information and may not apply to everyone  and  feel free to add your own personal  “big nos”  for your blog in the tags!

“I do know that. I kinda figured it out on the first date already. Your passion for the Luau was clearly showing, like it did for every other big thing you went for.” It was something she really liked about him as well. But this small gesture, at least for her, had so much more meaning for her. Steve was sweet like that, even if he maybe didn’t know that himself. He had such moments and she adored them.

“Then come on in, island boy,” Avery said with a chuckle and let him inside, making sure to close the door behind them. “I’m… holding up. Danny and the others are big help when needed.But I’ve got this place, I’m renovating it bit by bit, taking on work when I can… the usual really. Want a beer?”

“God, yes, please.” He really could do with a beer for the nerves right now. Proposals or potential ones were paired with nerves and he could really do with a beer. Wait, no, no he shouldn’t drink. He couldn’t drink, because of the pain killers he had taken due to the healing wounds. “Actually, no.” He held up his hands quickly to show the bandages. “I’m on painkillers, which means no alcohol for me right now.”

“You know I could help with the renovating, I’m quite handy with that kind of thing.” He worked on loads of stuff at his home, too. And well that kind of thing was one thing he did enjoy outside of work, which she already knew. “It really is adorable.”

Avery looked at the ring on her finger and couldn’t help the smile. She loved it, even more so since it also reminded her of their romantic getaway, of the incredible weekend spent on Kauai with him. He was right with saying that she wasn’t one for things to show off but rather one that valued small things that had meaning. 

“Steve… Steve. Hey, stop worrying. I love it..” She assured him. “I love how you didn’t go your way with this. You didn’t choose something huge, but something that has a meaning, not just for me but for the both of us.” It was a bit loose on her finger, but that was the smallest thing about it all. “You wanna come inside?”

“I kinda did go my way, actually,” Steve pointed out. “I know what you mean, the big gestures, but...you know they all had meaning to me? They never were empty big gestures, they always had meaning, like this ring.” So it was his way, it was just a lot less loud than what he usually went for, but this whole thing felt like it didn’t need to be loud at all. “I mean I am basically an island boy...I grew up around things having meaning and embracing it.”

“I’d love to.” He followed her inside. It was small, quaint and adorable. The view was rather nice. “Danny is at my place and well if I don’t come home, he won’t be...disappointed. How...how are you?”

With him just holding her, the world seemed like a better place. She felt safe, comforted, like nothing could ever come and harm her. It happened, yes, but it was in the past. There was a chance that it would happen again, though Avery knew that Steve would come for her again if needed. She hoped they’d never have to go through such a thing again, but knowing that he’d have her back in such a way was comfort and assurance enough. Truth to be told, even if the making up part between them seemed small, it was big. Huge even. 

And with Steve, it was always go big or go home. There were small things every once in a while, but usually he liked to impress or surprise beyond any expectation. The Lu’au, the nice getaway weekend on Kauai, which brought along him impressing her with his piloting skills… Avery should have expected at least a little surprise from Steve, and while owning up to everything he did wrong was already more than enough, he managed to overdo himself in probably the best way possible.

Avery took a step back, observing the ring in the small box, eyes once more filling with tears, but they were happy ones this time. He wanted a future with her, just like she wanted with him, to have a family, to be happy despite everything life threw at them. “You are. You’re an idiot and a tough piece of work to handle. But you’re my idiot, one that I love very much and one that I’d love to have a future with. All your flaws and baggage make you you.” She reached up to gently peck his lips. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”

She said yes. Truth be told Steve did not expect that at all. But she said yes. She would marry him. After she kissed him so sweetly, Steve reached for her hand and slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit well enough, maybe they would have to tighten it a touch bit, as it was a bit loose, but it fit. And it looked good on her hand.

“It’s Olivin, sourced up in Kauai. I figured you’re not the girl for big diamonds or some show-off thing, but more the girl for...meaning. So I thought a local gem...and when I saw this one, sourced from Kauai, I don’t know, I just knew it was yours...” At least he thought it was hers. Maybe he was wrong, he had made so many mistakes, what was one more or less of them.

“You did what you thought was best at the moment,” Avery said quietly, trying her best to not let her voice stutter. It hurt. Part of what Steve said did hurt. She was ready to put everything aside to be with him whenever he got injured. She even mastered taking proper care of small injuries so he wouldn’t have to go to the hospital every time. She was there for him when he got tortured, helped him recover and took care of him. And when it came down to that, he didn’t do the same. Instead he called quits on their relationship and let her deal with everything on her own, with the small help of Danny and the rest of the crew when they got time.

But he owned up to his mistakes, even if it took a fake kiss for it to get to his head. “Ever since I found out you’re the leader of Five-0 and of the dangers that came with it, I knew what I was signing up for. I knew that there was always the chance of something happening to me because I’m your girlfriend. But some things are stronger than others. My love for you was always stronger than the fear of what could potentially happen to me.” And before it turned into more of a lecture, she stopped, eyes filling with tears.

Avery hesitated for a few moments. If it would be any other guy, she’d never forgive something like that. But Steve wasn’t just any guy. He was the one she loved, the one she imagined she’d settle down with eventually. “I love you too.” She finally said and moved to hug him tightly. “And I’m giving you a second chance.”

“I never wanted anything to happen to you. Least of all my...idiocy and neglect and I was too blind to see that, too stuck in my own head.” And boy was that hard to admit. He wasn’t raised to admit that kind of thing. Feelings were not something his father or mother talked about. His past was so full of secrets, he knew now that this messed him up big time. She had suffered for it, too and this was his fault. Her getting kidnapped and tortured, that was because of him, but it was not his fault. It was the fault of the guys who did it, most of which now rested six feet under.

He held her as she hugged him, willing to give him another chance, like Danny has suspected, if only he owned up to what he did and that, well that in itself wasn’t so hard. He had done it after all, it was just the feelings that came with it that was hard to admit, the vulnerability and pain and the baggage that came with it. He was messed up, in so many ways. But he’d go and fix it. All of it. There was one thing he knew for sure now: He had a working support system in Danny, Grace, his sister, his team. He had the luxury of that. He could and would use it.

“Ave...there is something else...” He pulled away and turned a little, pulling the small box out of his pocket. He had seen the ring the previous day and bought it on a whim. He opened the box and turned to her. The ring was a small rope design band with a bright green olivin, a local gem, sourced from Kauai, something that meant something to both of them. Hell, even the box was locally made.

“I’m an idiot. And I’m done running. I ran and it just hurt everybody over and over again. I chose to run when I should have fought. And I want to fight for us, for a future with you. I...want to build that future with you starting now. No more running, no more stalling for me, Avery. I give you all of me, with all my baggage and flaws and I hope you can accept me for the piece of work I am. I hope you want to build a future with me as well. Avery...will you marry me?”

Danny really was a one of a kind friend. She smiled as he hugged her quickly, nodding. “Thanks,” she said as he left to go after Steve. Danny worried, too, she knew, because this wasn’t just the normal situation, and there was no telling on what Steve could do. This way she could not worry as much at least, and her heart was at ease once she got a text from Danny. ‘Thanks. I owe you tons,’ was what she texted back before finishing up the job she was hired for, all the time hoping for a good outcome on the situation.

Two days later, Avery was lounging on her small sofa in her bungalow, watching the evening news. It looked like Five-0 solved yet another case successfully, among other things that were shown there. She got up once the news were over, intending to get herself something to drink when she heard a knock on the front door. She approached the door, carefully opening it and peeking outside, finding Steve stand there, which prompted her to open the door fully. “Hey…”

It had been a literal intervention staged by Danny and honestly? it had done the trick, in more than one way. Steve had actually broken down that night on the bathroom floor, he had sobbed into Dannys shoulder as the detective held him. He pushed through the case and made Danny stay at his place that night. He was actually waiting to hear back from Steve as he was here. 

“Hey,” the former Seal whispered as his ex opened the door. It was all his own doing, his own bloody fault, from beginning to end. Gods she was gorgeous and still so very adorable even if her look was killing him. There was pain in her eyes, pain he put there, pain he didn’t help her overcome when she had helped him. What an ass he was. He had ran away when he should have fought. He had let his own mind make him do things he couldn’t even explain. But he might just finally have found a word for it. Other words were however escaping him. How to put into words, what he felt? What he never had to verbalize, not even with Danny?

“I...” he started finally. “A lot of people got hurt because of me. I thought if I wasn’t in your life you wouldn’t be hurt. I thought if I wasn’t in your life I wouldn’t be hurt. I thought...I could save us both the pain and heartache, but...I caused it.... I love you, Avery... I...abandoned you when you needed me and that was the worst mistake I made. I...if you let me, I won’t do it again...Never again...”

“It was worth it since he reacted like any other guy would if he saw his best friend kiss his ex after such a short time. I still worry though, Danny. You know how Steve can be. And that look… it didn’t really look like it this was something he’ll get over that easily, even if we didn’t even kiss.” She sighed again, wondering why things just had to be this complicated. 

“You’ve no idea how badly I want to go after him and make sure he’s fine. Or that at least goes to the hospital with that to get the glass out from his palm. But…” She just lightly raised the camera around her neck. “Still got a job to do. At least it’s not too long before this is all done.”

“You know what? I’ll go after him,” Danny said, almost as a promise and there was not much he had to do there anyway. The rest of the team had everything under control. Danny pulled her into a quick hug. “I’ll keep you updated.” With that he left, finding, obviously his car and Steve gone. Getting himself a cab, Danny rushed off to go to Steves place where he found him in the bathroom, just staring at his hands, shards already removed. Danny sat down next to him, to talk, but used a moment to text Avery.

“Found him. Shards are removed. Getting it cleaned up and bandaged.” That way she could finish working without having to worry Steve would bleed out, while he took care of his best friend.

The answer to Danny’s question was pretty simple. Steve usually never displayed logical reactions when dealing with trauma, and it seemed that this was nothing unnatural. It wasn’t that only he suffered, but everybody else around him despite other wanting to help him. Steve could be stubborn like. It was something she loved and hated at the same time, because his stubbornness was basically a two edged sword.

As Danny smiled at her and placed his hands on her cheeks, she gave him a questioning look before realizing what he was doing. He faked a kiss, his body leaning a bit towards her and his hand shielding the fact that they didn’t even kiss. Her immediate reaction was to just go with it, now knowing what he meant with getting a reaction from Steve. And sure enough, there was the sound of glass shattering and Steve giving them a death glare that pretty much froze the blood in her veins. Avery questioned if it was a good idea, considering how Steve looked at them and how he stormed off. She sighed as she looked back at Danny.

“I’ll give you a lift home after this if he actually leaves with your car. But… was it worth it? This might ruin your friendship.”

He looked at her and gave her a sad smile. He was actually rather satisfied with this. Steve showed a logical reaction to seeing his best friend, basically brother, kissing his ex, whom he still obviously loved. It could open up a conversation they desperately needed. It might even set his fucking head straight for once. It was actually a chance, disguised like that.

“It was absolutely worth it. This is so not going to ruin our friendship. Trust me. I know that animal. I am going to sit him down and talk to him tomorrow. He won’t be able to escape me at work after all.” They would be fine. Maybe they all would be. “It might be totally uncharacteristic of me, but I think that is a positive thing that he reacted that way.”

They would. It was most definitely worth a shot, if nothing else. And if not, well, they’d work around that as well. They’d manage, one way or another, simply wanting Steve to be up on his feet again and well as soon as possible.

“Oh there’s a niece as well who I have to meet? Steve conveniently left that out. I guess he probably didn’t want to scare me away with that information.” It was all in good spirits though, as she was quite certain that Grace was the daughter of one fot he team members, and if she was coming over after school, it was safe to assume she was Danny’s daughter. “Do you think I’ll make a good impression on her or will she be unhappy with me trying to take her uncle Steve?”

“Two nieces actually. He has a bunch of found family.” And it honored him so much how he cared for the kids he was uncle to. Danny knew if anyone could be trusted with his precious kid, it would be Steve, hence why something like that was in his will now and in Rachels. It didn’t take too much convincing from him to get Rachel to put the clause into her will, she, too, knew Steve would literally die for these kids. He knew Mary had a similar clause in her will, too. “Grace is my kid. And well the other niece is his sister's daughter, little Joanie.” Danny smiled softly.

“Oh Avery, don’t you worry about that, my Grace is very, very aware that nothing and nobody has the power to take Steve away from her. She is very secure in his love for her and rightfully so. That guy is devoted to his Ohana. If that is the kind of thing you like, you found yourself a keeper. He even has some troubled youths he helps along.”

“Oh it’s not an illusion at all,” she said softly and hugged him back. “It’s just an assumption. There’s always a chance that I might be completely wrong. no need to be sorry for stating something that’s a fact.” She probably sounded very pathetic, trying to wiggle her way out of what she said and assumed. They were a team, practically family, of course they’d care like that about one another.

“Isn’t that a bit contradictory? How does it help if he removes himself? It just makes everybody easier targets if he’s not there. Yeah, you guys are targets because you work with him and know him, but it makes no sense. You’re much stronger together than separated.” But that was her logic. Steve clearly didn’t think like that, and did what he thought was a good idea. Sometimes she wondered just how he functioned. He really was a dumbass sometimes. “Draw a reaction from him?” Avery looked at Danny. “What do you mean?”

“When has Steve ever displayed logic reactions to trauma,” he asked her. In the time she knew him, Danny knew Steve had been the poster boy for illogical reactions to a lot of things. She knew how he was, she knew he was messed up and she still handled him just fine, usually. Before the mess, actually. She suffered enough and Steve had added, thanks to being a fucking idiot. Ultimately he hurt them both.

Danny smiled at her, placed a hand on each of her cheeks and leaned forward to kiss her, hoping she would play along. While he didn’t physically go further he moved his body so it would look like it. Until the sound of shattering glass was heard and he turned around. Steve stood there, stared at him, eyes shocked and murderous at the same time. His hand was bleeding from where he squashed what looked like a champagne glass in his bare hand. After one last murderous look Steve stormed off and away from the event.

“Okay, the good news is, he definitely still loves you. The bad news is: He was my ride. In my car.”

Avery chuckled softly. “I guess he really did go big with that one then.” And to think that it was their first date to begin with. It had her wonder what he actually had in stock for later on, if their relationship would continue. And it was very telling that Steve wanted this to be a maybe even a long lasting relationship. She definitely wanted it to be one.

“I thought it was something much, much worse. We’ll manage that, too. We’ll give him as much control of every situation as he needs, and for the injections… well, we’ll do it like the doctor did a bit ago. We’ll explain to him why he needs the injection and ask for his consent for it.” Avery hoped that Steve wouldn’t be as stubborn and refuse it, especially if not just her would be around, but Danny as well, and the rest of the team. “We’ll show him that we just want him to be well again, that we’re there to support him and help him.”

“We’ll try.” But if he refused, he would have to do it against Steves's wishes. He was prepared for it, had done it before. He could deal with it. 

“You know, on top of meeting the team, you will have to meet Steve’s niece. Fair warning, she is fairly protective of her uncle Steve. Grace is actually going to pop in after school today, so you should prepare.” Grace wasn’t someone that was truly dangerous, but her disappointed look made hearts melt. And well she was important to Steve, so he guessed she would like to get along with her. But then again Grace was well behaved and easy to get along with.

“So that’s her? Looks like they’re getting along pretty well if she’s here only since yesterday.” She was bitter about it, of course, because from all that people told her about Catherine, Steve would get hurt again. She wouldn’t have minded if it was anybody else but Catherine, because she wanted Steve to be happy. And she had no illusions. People broke up, even if their relationship was good. It wasn’t the end of the world, even if it still hurt a lot. “Hi, Danny,” she finally said with a small smile as she looked at him. “It’s good to see at least one friendly face around.” Especially since he stayed in touch after her and Steve broke up and checked on her every once in a while.

“He’s not the only one, but you know that already. I guess he never experienced somebody who’s not any of you guys be in such danger that’s somebody he loves. Well, loved. It would mess up anybody.” She glanced at the couple again and sighed. “Are at least the cases you guys work on distracting him?”

“They have history,” Danny pointed out. They did. They had been on and off for a while before the great fiasco between them happened that allowed Steve to finally move on. And now with how vulnerable he was, Catherine was familiar, that was all. He was quite literally just falling in with old habits.

Danny hugged her and gave her a sad smile. “Actually, I hate to break your illusion, he does something similar when one of us is in a situation like that, too. He can’t break up with us because of the work, but last time I got shot because of someone that targeted him, he didn’t speak to me for a week. I even got to drive my own car. Steve doesn’t know how to handle loss, even less how to handle potential loss. He’s trying to protect us by removing himself.” And it never worked.

“He barely pays attention to them. He is busy moping and being an idiot. You know what, I think we should try and draw a reaction out of him.”

“Does he do that often, the go big or go home things? I think the one thing that really came close to it when we first met. He immediately invited me to a Lu’au and called it a ‘date date’.” It was still amazing how nonchalantly Steve did that back then, and the first thing that she found that drew her so close to him. He definitely wasn’t the usual guy when it came to dating. 

“I know what waterboarding is. My grandpa used to be in the Navy. His bedtime stories weren’t exactly all that soothing and meant for before sleep but… well, such things are not that easy to forget.” And to think that Steve went through it just sent shivers down her spine. Taking care of him just got a lot more difficult. She’d basically have to tiptoe around him and make sure she wouldn’t do anything that might trigger any bad memories of what happened to him. While she had the feeding Steve part covered, getting him cleaned up and dressed might prove to be a challenge. Well, Avery was more than willing to do her best to make it as easy for Steve as possible. “What do you mean? What’s the thing we can’t avoid?

“He’s...he’s not, it isn’t easy for him to open up to something like that, that’s why he does tend to do it like that. Once he gathers the courage, it just spills out. By the way, taking someone to a Lu’au is kind of a big thing here. Historically a Lu’au was well associated with romance in the hawaiian culture. Our team mates can tell you more about it, Steve too, but taking a girl to a Lu’au will have been a huge deal for Steve.” And he loved it actually that he did. One step, well many it seemed, in the direction of a normal human relationship.

“Injections. He was apparently injected with something, but when he is released home, we will most likely have to give him injections. That is something we can’t minimize. Everything else can be minimized by allowing him control over the situation. We can deal with him not washing in the given moment and doing it later, but the injections will need to be given at a special time, we can’t give him too much control.”
