“There’s literally nothing more to it.” Thomas said, though it was a partial lie. Apparently, if he could go by Juliet’s dream, there was something more from her side, there was definitely something more than friendship that he was opened for in the past too with her, but Juliet then got with Ethan, and she was happy. It was very easy for Thomas to let her be happy and ‘sacrifice’ his own happiness, because he really wanted her to be happy, regardless of who it was with.
Moving outside, Thomas dug out a small pit close to the window which thankfully had a small overhang above it, so in case of rain, the fire might be protected. There were small branches nearby and enough leaves to start off small, now he just needed something easy to light and something to light the fire with. The first part was easy, while the second part required the good old stone against stone method to get the spark. Thomas struggled with it, given how his one arm was in a sling, though eventually get got it and got the fire going.
Once he was sure it would keep burning, he added more wood and moved inside. “Ready for the inevitable?”
Nothing to it, right. There was something. Even if he, for good reason, didn’t want to acknowledge it. He had a good thing with Lia. Lia deserved better than a guy half in love with his best friend and so he pushed it down, no matter how rocky it was. But there was not nothing, hadn’t been for years now. The thing was just: Circumstances made it impossible and Thomas being a good guy didn’t want to entertain the real idea of it, because he was loyal to a fault.
Steve watched him as he worked and made sure to get himself into a comfortable position so Magnum would have an easy time pulling the knife and cauterizing the wound. It was all about getting himself as immobile as possible. Once he braced himself that way, Steve nodded to the slightly younger man.
“Well then, White Knight, show me what you got.”
