i put this in my post yesterday but I decided to seperate it so i could talk just a tid bit about my au
Basically it’s Hallo aus Berlin but set in the early 1960s (When Berlin —and by extension Germany—was divded…)
Rolli Schmidt and Rita Weiß both lived in East Berlin before Rita’s family crossed the border into West berlin to travel to a relative in Essen.
(Mind you this is before the wall is built.)
Rolli’s family stays in the east as his mom is a somewhat strong socialist and wants Rolli to have a strong future by what he is taught in the Junge Pioneer and FDJ. The FDJ was also just straight up needed for future education.
(In the piece here he’s depicted in the FDJ as teens are allowed into the organization at 14-25. He is canonically 15.)
Rolli doesn’t really give much of a shit and wants Rita to visit or for him to come over to Rita. (The latter being the more impossible for him O_O)
Then it’s August 1961… The first barricades go up. Throughout the months several layers to the barrier are added until theres a wall.
A few momths later, Rita comes back to visit a relative in west Berlin, but can’t cross the border to see Rolli in the East.
and yeah Rolli tries to get across to see her again
