Home || Steven & Wallace
“Wallace… I missed you,” said Steven, burying his face into his fiance’s shoulder. He let his curled fingers relax against Wallace’s back as they hugged.
It was the little things that made Steven realize just how much he missed Wallace. The faint throb of Wallace’s heartbeat against his chest, the way he wrapped his arms around him—tight, secure, but not uncomfortably so. Steven breathed in Wallace’s scent and tightened his arms around him before breaking the embrace. He hung his arms around Wallace’s shoulders and looked him in the eyes. “I missed you. So much…”
A surge of pure, energetic bliss jolted through him. Steven pecked and then kissed Wallace’s lips without a moment’s hesitation in between—the first frantic, the second more defined.
Steven graced his fiance’s jaw with his hand, examining his face with a concerned frown. He noted how tired Wallace looked layers deep under the thrill of their reunion. Tiny bags were forming under his bright eyes, and his demeanor felt strained. Steven brought his arms down and locked his fingers into Wallace’s.
“I was able to come home early and wanted to see you…” Steven murmured. Distracted, he brushed a loose strand of hair from Wallace’s face. “I hope that you aren’t just now returning home yourself, but from the looks of it… is everything okay? What happened?”
Despite just coming from a night too long and stagnant, Wallace gladly welcomed the time-stopping sensation of being in Steven’s arms. Hearing Steven speak put him at ease; he smiled into each kiss.
Wallace leaned gently into the champion’s touch, almost forgetting the strenuous night behind him had it not been for the worry in Steven’s face, and the faint reflection of his own fatigue in Steven’s eyes. It was almost too good to be true--hearing and seeing his fiancé in real life was immensely gratifying after months of grainy video calls; no more dropped frames or poor reception. Not now. Wallace smiled and glanced away, suddenly aware that he had been staring and not answering.
“I regret not presenting myself better for your surprise return... I look silly; I’m aware,” he giggled through a sigh, “Ah... There have been... fairly concerning claims, regarding an ‘unknown disturbance’ resonating from the Cave. Such a thing is relatively normal as Pokémon naturally reside within, but, seeing as I had to be called in the middle of the night for judgement...
“...Don’t let it spoil your homecoming, love,” Wallace decided to cut it there, looking back at Steven with a reassuring smile and squeezing his hand. Steven had returned early for him, he reminded himself. Don’t be disrespectful. “I’d still be over there if it was still dire. We can talk about it more later if you’re curious, but for now...”
Wallace leaned in to give Steven’s forehead a tender kiss before pulling back just enough to reach his house key from his pocket. “Why don’t you come in? The house has missed you nearly as much as I have, my dear. Let me take your suitcase..." He stepped around his fiancé to unlock his door before bending down to grasp the handle of his luggage, still smiling.
