OK but this panel says so much about Bokuto!

Saying that he’s aware of his moodiness and how he is on court shows that he’s so much more clever than most people give him credit for. he’s clever and he’s observant and he’s aware of his surroundings even if no one thinks he does (his teammates probably don’t know considering the one who knoWs him best, Akaashi, was SHOCKED): Bokuto is aware of what he’s like on and off court, and probably of his teammates’ annoyance. But he’s also aware of their trust in him. And trust is the reason why, being aware of his behavior and habits, he still lets himself be himself, thanks to his team!

I will never say this enough but Bokuto Koutarou is NOT the happy-go-lucky, moody and dork Ace. He’s the fourth top spiker of the country, Ace and Captain of a powerhouse of Tokyo, and he didn’t get there thanks to some muscles and a positive attitude. You need intelligence to get there - perhaps not the best scholar results or the most brilliant mind; he doesn’t have the cunningness of Kuroo, the wit of Oikawa or the intelligence of Akaashi but he’s still clever and observant and should not be underestimated!

Guys, I dunno if anyone else noticed but every other coach for every other skater we’ve seen up til this point has been happy, hugged, got intimate, cheered at their pupil, but here though I imagine with Yurio’s posture and face it was meant to be taken as a bit of comic relief, we see BOTH of the people who have been training him, arms crossed and turned away from him, even though… EVEN THOUGH he managed to come in second. I’m not sure if people remember from the 3rd episode, but Yakov and Lilia used to be married and while they both seem pretty grounded people, I don’t want that to have any kind of influence on their teaching or way of behaving around Yurio.  I know it probably isn’t that reason but still…  They look like they are genuinely angry and/or don’t care. I dunno about you guys but I feel pretty awful for Yurio.  That’s why I’m so happy that Victor and Yuri cheer him on.  Not because the whole ‘Proud Dads’ but because it is probably the reason why Yurio gets so mad at the two for doing so because I genuinely don’t think he’s ever encouraged in that way. skate this way for more Yuri!!!

Small, slightly obscure, but really cool thing that happens in episode 1 of Yuri!!! On Ice that I don’t think a lot of people caught:

The snow.

They probably weren’t watching the weather forecast there in the first two shots, they were watching the news. This cold front came literally out of nowhere, as, like the announcer says, it was supposed to be a perfect day for hanami, ergo going for a picnic to watch the cherry blossoms. But instead, lots of snow.

Now, for those of you who live in colder areas, like myself, you probably just went “well, unseasonal snow happens sometimes, I remember once we had snow in mid-May.”

For those of you who live in warmer areas, you probably went “idk how snow works, so I guess that sounds legit???”

No.

Snow in April on fucking Kyushu is beyond ridiculous, okay. They barely even get snow in the actual winter months. This is happening on April 11th - or even later - and they should be having temperatures in the 15-20°C/60-68°F range - or maybe even higher. And they probably were, before this. That’s why Yuuri’s so surprised and confused.

So why would they even bother including this?

Victor. It’s all about Victor.

In part, I suspect it’s a literary/poetry reference, even if I can’t quite place it, because “he came from the north, bringing ice and snow” is something of a universal literary image.

But mostly, it’s because, in Japanese, when someone does something highly unexpected and uncharacteristic, like, say, me cleaning my room, you express your surprise by saying “wow, does this mean it’s gonna snow tomorrow?”

And it didn’t just snow. It snowed a lot. It’s a reference to how ridiculously unexpected it is for Victor to wanna coach instead of skating himself, for him to show up in Japan out of the blue.
