A snippet for my Watcher!Jimmy AU. Check out the comic, and feel free to send an ask/DM if you want to know more or be a beta reader!
Nobody had seen Jimmy for some time. Even before they got to this horrid server, he seemed to have disappeared.
Scar said he was lucky. Which, perhaps, was fair. The server they were all trapped on was cursed. At least, something along those lines. It was the only explanation for all of the terrible things that had happened.
Respawn glitches, injuries that wouldn’t heal, memory loss… There was a lot. So yeah, Pearl supposed that maybe Jimmy was lucky.
Except, she couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched. She knew that everyone on this server was out to get each other, but she also knew that this feeling wasn’t from any of her former friends. It was from Them. It was unsettling, to say the least. The creeping knowledge that They were watching, made worse by the fact that she didn’t know why.
She wondered if her and everyone else ending up in this server was Their doing, or if They were merely observing. She doubted she’d get an answer. The only two possible leads were the absence of Jimmy, and Grian’s escape.
Grian was the only one who got out of the server. He made no effort to tell anyone how he did it. He hadn’t even said goodbye to Mumbo, the last person to see him. All he did was turn away before glowing bright yellow and vanishing. Mumbo claimed his eyes stung for hours afterwards. At the time of Mumbo telling everyone, nobody put much thought into the minute detail of sore eyes. Everyone only cared about the possibility of getting out of this server.
Of course, that hope had long since burned down. For some, like Pearl, the embers still remained. For others, they had long since cast aside the charred remnants of that idea. It was only a matter of time before they were all like that.
However, until that time came, Pearl would continue searching for answers. Back when the hostility between each other was minimal, she would question the others for any information regarding Grian and Jimmy. At first, people merely remarked that they missed Jimmy and were jealous of Grian. Some said they hoped Jimmy and Grian were safe. As time went on though, the answers she received soured.
“He shouldn’t have left us.”
“We’re better off without them.”
“Why do you keep asking me these questions?”
The first time Etho drew a sword to threaten her was when she realized that she was getting nowhere with this. She raced back to her cottage, collapsing onto her bed once she arrived. As she lay there, she realized.
These people weren’t her friends anymore. They had changed. She had changed. This server was corrupting them, worse than it was in Last Life. It was happening even without deaths. It was faster.
They were all running out of time.
If Pearl didn’t find a way to get them out of here soon, they’d be stuck there forever.
