my thoughts as i enter the DC world

I watched an amazing YouTube video on the history of the major events in the DC timeline (what time line??) and OMG, I have a few things to say:

1. NOBODY TOLD ME HAL JORDAN WENT ON THE CRASH OUT OF ALL CRASH OUTS?? (i know thay technically it wasnt his fault but like what?!)

2. The Guardians of the Universe are such a pain!!!

3. I think that the idea of the great handshake between the great dark and the light is really funny

4. DC writers know no bounds

5. The amount of retcons and new continuity and universe crisis events they had to write after the mess and downfall of the new 52 is insane

6. Batman who laughs is annoying

7. The Great Darkness Needs to chill

8. Is DC still in the Dawn of DC era?? I can’t tell but i think so? Or is it the All In era?? Are they the same thing?? Should i do more research? Perhaps

9. Also they tried giving Wally a crash out in Heroes In Crisis?? Excuse me??

10. The amount of RetCons DC makes is insane, they have commitment issues

But yeah people were not kidding when they said DC and their continuities are crazy.

DC News from Comic Con!!

the new event: DC KO, I don’t really get what will happen with this. It’s like a battle between 32 characters and Darkseid? When I first heard of it, I thought it was a video game ngl and maybe it’s the gen alpha current slang but the ‘omega energy’ and being crowned the new ‘king omega’ sounds weird to me. But it sounds interesting so hopefully I can read it as it comes out next year, and apparently there’s something huge coming after that so I wanna be caught up to see what that will be.

AND NOW

the news about the absolute universe made me soooooo excited, cause I’m actually loving the absolute universe. So here are the news in order from least excited about to most excited about:

- introducing scarecrow and finally catwoman into absolute Batman (excited but all the other news are so much cooler)

- the absolute evil one shot (again super cool cause it’s the first event from the universe but the other news made me much happier)

- green arrow is coming to the absolute universe as a fallout of Evil !! (I’m very excited for this)

now these next two are like same level for me but one is clearly more important than the other for like world building reasons I guess:

- DICK GRAYSON IS COMING TO THE ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE!!

- BATMAN AND WONDER WOMAN ARE GONNA HAVE A CROSS OVER IN HER BOOK!! (pretty sure it’s December)

I AM SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED FOR DICK GRAYSON!! I wanna see how they’re gonna make him Robin with the absolute Batman.

AND OMG THE FIRST CROSS OVER OF THE ABSOLUTE UNIVERSE?!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually have no words to describe how excited I am for that and I seriously cannot wait for December!!

Need to talk about Wally West

Okay I have a few questions because I’m extremely confused. So first things first, what I know from Wally comes from 1- the Young Justice cartoon (loved that show but omf was not Young justice), 2- the new teen titans and I’ve barely finished that and 3- the absolute flash which is a new universe so it doesn’t really count.

So my question is:

Are Wally’s parents shitty?? Because I thought he had a good family life, which is what made the absolute flash Wally different from the main universe Wally, but I’ve seen some people saying that they were shit but also saying that they were okay??

Were they bad?? And then if they were what makes is like absolute flash’s main difference from main universe?? Like how Batman is not a billionaire and how Superman grew up in Krypton.

Please let me know guys, I’m really curious about it

I spent a day at the comic book shop last week and spent literally hours talking to the owner. He gave me quite a few recommendations and I bought loads of comic books (I fear I have no self control).

This is a list of the ones I bought:

- Titans/Young Justice - Graduation Day

- Batman: The Killing Joke and Batman: The Man Who Laughs

- Superman a meeting with Nightwing (translating these from Portuguese so I’m not sure on the name of these ones)

- Superman: Secret Identity

- Mr Miracle

Im actually really excited to read them, especially Mr Miracle as the guy at the comic book shop was explaining that Tom King, the writer, is a former CIA agent and writes with themes of PTSD and many other things he experienced while working, so that’s pretty cool.

Picture of the comics below (they’re all in Portuguese cause I’m living in Brazil for 2 months for an internship and I’m fluent in Portuguese so I thought might as well read in Portuguese)

OMG I SAW THE SUPERMAN MOVIE TODAY!!!

here are my thoughts as promised (my own personal thoughts no one has to agree with it!!):

- the chemistry between all the actors was amazing

- james gunn was able to write a film that had like the perfect mix of superhero action, heart felt moments, and funny scenes that made the entire cinema laugh

- nicholas hoult was INCREDIBLE, like seriously his performance took my breath away, he was the perfect lex luthor

- the scenes with his family actually made me tear up

- the character development and like just personal growth we see like everyone go through is amazing, you can tell that each character was thought out and had a reason to be there

- david was the perfect choice for superman, his performance was also really amazing and the characterisation of superman that james wrote for him is actually perfect

- lois was such a strong character, i found her differences with superman actually really interesting and how even with that they still love each other is really heartwarming

- the daily planet team was so good and im glad james added that, jimmy was soooo cool

so yeah overall i absolutely loved this film, i think it was a great way for james to start the universe and I can’t wait to see supergirl soon!!

superman movie

im gonna see superman today and im so freaking excited. its a preview here, and im actually so lucky that they're showing it early here (im on an international summer placement so im not home atm), because i dont think i can wait anymore, especially with the content creators who went to the premier last night talking about how good it is.

and im really looking forward to it because its the first DC movie i'll ever see. ive never seen a single DC movie before, not even a batman movie. idk how i did that because like dc is quite big.

WAIT OMG THATS NOT TRUE

ive seen blue beetle, but that was more for bruna marquezine than for DC. but that was actually a good movie. but anyways first superman movie cause ive never seen any snyder's movies and from what ive heard idk if i ever will, i like the silliness of comic books and i always felt thats what marvel missed.

so yeah im just really excited to watch it and i'll post a review later without spoilers obviously

so as i said yesterday, i mainly started because of dick grayson and mostly of what i read is about him but ive also read some more stuff.

so heres a list of what i've read so far (4th of July):

the new teen titans vol 1 by Wolfman and Perez

batman: hush by Jeph Leob

superman for all seasons by Jeph Leob

nightwing year one by chuck dixon and scott beatty

batman: wayne family adventures vol 1 and 2 (ik they're silly but they were fun)

teen titans rebirth by Benjamin Percy (i did not like damian with the titans, he was unbearable, but because i think it was too early in his story for him to work on a team, i actually quite like his character)

what im currently reading:

robin and batman by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen

dark crisis (2022) by joshua williamson

absolute universe stories, i've read absolute batman, flash, wonder woman and super man (and im loving them)

but yeah as always if anyone has any recommendations of comics or even tv shows or movies in the DC universe im all ears

the beginning - or how i somehow had dick grayson's name in my mind and could not let it go

okay so, i started reading DC comics i think around 3 months ago. how did that start? i'll tell you, i was sleep deprived studying for my end of semester uni exams and the name dick grayson popped into my mind. how? who knows, i blame the big bang theory and all their comic book talks (i study physics so i was watching that show as i revised).

so in my sleep deprived state i decided to search up his name on youtube and this like 3 hr video came on talking about all of his lore up to the NEW 52. and i was like OMG i love this, robin? nightwing? batman? superheroes again?

now the thing is, i have always loved superheroes, but i grew up on the marvel movies, watched the entire phase 3 and 4 in the cinemas on opening night, but i have never once seen a single DC movie (from what ive heard thats kind of a blessing), but also i dont live under a rock so ofc i knew about superman, and batman, wonder woman, the justice league, and had heard the name robin in passing, but i never cared for them.

but then i watch a 3hr video explaining how amazing nightwing and his whole journey was and i decide, i must read DC.

now how does one just read DC? obviously you dont cause there's like 50k comics. so i decided to start with things with dick grayson, cause i was in this for him. and where does one start with dick grayson? the new teen titans obviously (the 1980's run with Wolfman and Perez), because why not? i had seen a few episodes of teen titans go, so i knew those characters and i knew about robin and starfire. but omg did that lead me down a black hole of comic books. but thats a story for another day, this is basically my origin story with the DC comics.

(if anyone has any recommendations, im always all ears)

OMG HIIII

sooo hello everyone, im quite new to tumblr which is actually quite sad because ive been a fangirl since like 2017 which from what i remember was PEAK tumblr era, but oh well better later than never.
