Helpful Winter Gardening List
Depending on where you are in the country, there are still some gardening activities that are worth keeping up in the winter. Here is a helpful list to remind you of what to keep up with. While this mostly applies to certain regional areas of gardening opportunity, those that are in snow-packed regions can take advantage of this time to plan their Spring gardens and map out and plan irrigation needs for the coming season.

Solar Powered Timer Watering Technology
We are very excited to announce the release of our new solar powered hose end timer for irrigation control. The EVO100 timer (controller) is an innovative and patented design that utilizes solar power by collecting surrounding ambient light and then storing it’s energy in internal, lead free super-capacitors.
This technology provides an excellent solution for irrigation control when AC power is not available. Both rugged and waterproof, the EVO 100 can easily be installed by attaching to any standard faucet for automatic watering and has a number of programming options to meet different watering requirements.

DIG Goes Green at Hope Elementary School!
Hope Elementary has a special garden to teach students how to grow their own vegetables and conserve water. Water conservation is at the heart of DIG's mission, and DIG was thrilled to donate more than $500 worth of materials to revamp seven 4' by 20' planter boxes at Hope Elementary. DIG also installed drip lines and battery controllers to automate the watering. Many volunteers donated their time to help complete the project, which included cleaning out old, overgrown plants and weeds. New topsoil was then added to the boxes to give all of the plants a fresh and healthy start. DIG believes that educating children on gardening techniques and proper irrigation is paramount to creating a sustainable future for all!
A Follow up with our Switch 2 Drip Contest Winner, Becky Godlasky!
To celebrate Smart Irrigation Month, we launched our first annual Switch 2 Drip contest. Our winner, Becky Godlasky, of Orlando, Florida submitted photos of her garden in need of a little TLC. To give her garden just that, we delivered $300 worth of DIG irrigation products right to her door.
“It's such an amazing transformation already,” Becky said.
In the past, her sprinklers soaked some plants with too much water and left other areas completely dry. Now, Becky is thrilled to have an efficient system bringing the right amount of water to every inch of her beautiful, Floridian garden.
“I'm a little giddy about my new garden thanks to DIG!” Becky said. “What an amazing difference it’s made already!”
Enjoying the fruits of smart irrigation not only means saving time, money and water, but keeping your garden lush and green. Becky, we hope your garden continues to grow strong and we are so glad our products have helped. Water Matters!
DIG Featured on Growing a Greener World!
Water is one of earth’s most important natural resources. Nearly 100 gallons are used per person every day, from consumption to lawn irrigation to landscape use. In fact, nearly 40% of potable water usage occurs outdoors. Growing a Greener World is an award-winning TV show appearing on national Public Television that features organic gardening, green living and farm-to-table cooking. DIG shares their vision for innovation and water conservation to build a greener tomorrow.
In this episode, DIG’s Marketing Manager, Ben Raines, and Technical Service Manager, Stuart Spaulding, discuss how DIG’s LEIT-2ET wireless irrigation control system conserves water while saving energy. The LEIT RC2ET handset, with its large LCD display and sophisticated software, uploads the necessary programmed site information to the LEIT-2ET controller. The LEIT-2ET controller then calculates the daily local microclimate evapotranspiration (ET) by data received by the LEIT WWS or LEIT WWSE wireless solar powered weather station. This determines the optimum level of irrigation necessary. The system operates by using ambient light (solar) powered technology that charges lead-free super capacitors, not batteries, making it one of the most environmentally friendly controllers on the market.
DIG is honored to be featured in this episode of Growing a Greener World (Waterwise 2.0). Located in San Diego, CA, DIG manufactures a complete line of alternative powered irrigation controllers and low volume irrigation products which include drippers, micro sprinklers, sprayers, foggers, drip tubing, drip lines, fittings, and accessories. Introducing L’Avenue: A State of the Art Skyscraper and Luxury Mall in Shanghai, China
Introducing L’Avenue: A State of the Art Skyscraper and Luxury Mall in Shanghai, China
Designed by Jun Aoki and delivered from schematic design to construction completion by the architectural firm of Leigh & Orange, L’Avenue is a state of the art skyscraper and luxury mall in Shanghai, China. This commercial development, twenty-eight stories tall with a ground floor spanning over 140,000 square meters (1.5 million square feet), is an eco-conscious project incorporating such environmentally sustainable features as recycled rain water, recycled construction waste, and water efficient plantings sustained by drip irrigation.
The irrigation system is dominated by a water-wise, solar-powered, smart wireless irrigation controller including advanced drip irrigation system technology from DIG Corporation, a company based in Vista, California.
The irrigation system was designed and supplied by DIG Corporation’s master distributor in Hong Kong and China, PMS Engineering, Ltd., which also provided the technical support for the project. The irrigation system was installed by Networld Co., Ltd., based in Shanghai.
DIG’s water-saving technologies were recommended and then aligned to coincide with the designer’s vision of a green luxury mall. The detailed specifications for the project included DIG’s LEIT 2 ET System, which is comprised of solar powered, wireless controllers and wireless weather stations. The system uses local microclimate evapotranspiration (ET) data received from the weather station, along with site information programmed from the handset, to calculate and adjust the daily irrigation schedule according to real time weather information for each controller and for each station independently.
The system designed for L’Avenue comprises twenty LEIT-2ET two-station, solar-powered, wireless smart controllers, two LEIT WWS wireless weather stations, and approximately 5,500 feet of .5 GPH (2 l/h) EXCEL PC CV green drip line incorporating built-in emitters with check valves every 12” (30 cm).
The system also depends on DIG’s LEIT-RC2ET wireless handsets to program, monitor, and adjust irrigation schedules for each zone
The DIG LEIT 2 ET system operates without batteries, using ambient light (solar) power to charge lead-free super capacitors. This makes it one of the most environmentally friendly irrigation control systems on the market.
DIG’s eco-friendly products contributed to L’Avenue being granted LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold status, which officially confirmed L’Avenue as a green building. DIG remains committed to protecting the environment and conserving water through its innovative products and technologies, across the globe.
Celebrating DIG's Switch 2 Drip contest winner, Becky Godlasky!
In honor of Smart Irrigation Month, we launched our first Switch 2 Drip contest offering one lucky winner $300 worth of DIG irrigation products! Many of you sent us pictures, emails and letters about your garden or landscaping projects in need of a little love. Here at DIG, we were excited to see how many people are actively working to keep this earth green and beautiful!
After much deliberation, we chose Becky Godlasky as the winner. Becky is a gardener, writer, photographer and former English professor who can often be found reciting poetry to her plants! Her blog, The Green B, conveys that gardening is more than a hobby. It’s a way of life, a source of joy and relaxation, and a display of profound gratitude for Mother Nature. Gardening is not only about planting seeds into the earth, but digging down deep within ourselves to express our creativity and individuality. For Becky, gardening is a “meditation,” and we are happy to help her revive her garden with water-wise irrigation solutions.
Becky told us, “I think that there are few things more satisfying than growing flowers and food.” In Orlando, Florida, Becky works hard to help her plants thrive, but faces a few significant challenges:
1. Her current garden has two elevated sprinkler heads which soak some plants with too much water and do not reach other plants.
2. Her sprinklers’ water pressure is too strong for some plants.
3. In the past, Becky has been affected by Florida’s watering restrictions. During the hot summer months, her sprinklers can’t efficiently distribute the already limited supply of water.
We have great news for Becky – all of these challenges can be easily addressed with the implementation of a drip irrigation system! Drip irrigation waters the root zone of the plant and increases water efficiency to help prevent both over and under watering. With a passion for innovation, we at DIG create water-saving technologies, from complete drip irrigation and micro sprinkler kits to solar powered controllers. Water efficiency is our area of expertise, and we are excited to provide Becky with the right products to help her plants thrive.
Here at DIG, we aim to preserve the earth’s precious resources in all that we do and to be the global expert and innovator for affordable irrigation solutions. We deeply respect our consumers and their passion for water conservation. Becky, we hope that you continue to to grow your garden and be a strong voice for green living. Water matters!
