Search And Rescue
Even the smallest hospitals had multiple departments and numerous rooms, making it difficult to locate a single person within them. It’s a major guess that Iris would be here at all. It’s just the place he thought someone with a medical degree might gravitate towards.
Room after room in the ER doesn’t yield any much. Yosuke’s stopped cautiously looking behind doors and has started quickly flinging them open. He’s damn lucky that the ER seems vacant at least or else he’d have been taken off guard already. It’s a mystery whether the same could be say for the other areas in the hospital. He stops in his reckless search periodically to make sure Yu is still around as if the other boy suddenly faded away into the mist. It’s a completely irrational fear, but he doesn’t want to go back to being alone.
Alone. He can hear sneering, and he’s not sure if it’s from shadows surrounding them or those lurking within the depths of his mind. His brow furrows for a moment before he reminds himself to flatten it out again. He just needs to refocus. Find Iris. Get back to the barricade.
They are losing daylight hours, but he’s used to travelling during the long nights now. It’s not like he sleeps much anyways, and sitting around in one place in the dark didn’t accomplish anything except driving his sanity meter further down. They should keep moving. Iris was alone somewhere and probably needed help back to the city. And she might be hurt somewhere. And few other people were used to fighting horrific monsters, and this was a lot for an adult, let alone a small child. And the nights were worse…
He starts to pick up his pace bit.
“We should go check ICU.” He pauses for a second, realizing that sounded like more of an order than a suggestion. “Unless you think we should try someplace else first?”
Yu’s been fiddling with something since they reached this floor. It’s only now that he’s finally ready to show Yosuke what he’s been up to: A balloon that says ‘Get Well Soon!’ hangs sadly from his grasp. Yu smiles as he presents it, without helium and without reason. “Isn’t this cute?” He doesn’t expect Yosuke to accept it as a gift, though, and lets go of it almost as quickly as he shows it.
It’s the little things that keep people going, the momentary distractions that help them recenter themselves. The situation is grave, yes, but Yu can’t have Yosuke panicking on him. The worse his friend gets, the quicker he’ll start to lose it as well.
“No, I think your suggestion’s a good idea. Let’s have a look around.” He glances over his shoulder briefly, chasing away the notion that something’s been following them, and looks forward. “Iris? Iris, if you’re here, it’s Yu and Yosuke! Even if you’re not who we’re looking for, we’re searching for survivors!”

Well.
How amusing. She’s in a hospital— the place she’s supposed to be the most familiar with— and— she doesn’t understand anything.
She’s lost.
Iris almost wants to laugh at the absurdity of it all, almost wants to curse at twenty-first technological development for making this too hard— but she does neither, can’t do either, but instead forges on, because what other damn choice does she have if she doesn’t want to— can’t—
...she doesn’t even want to think about it.
There are wards Iris can’t identify— can’t recognize— and she’s scrounging through the umpteenth hospital room, puzzled by the blue thin masks and all the wires and tubes winding in and out of each other like spider webs to machines (at least— she thinks they’re machines) and back and they’re stuttered with buttons and screens utterly dead, and she doubts that even if she— somehow— manages to figure out how to even get them on, she’ll get absolutely nowhere. Not that they’ll help her. She hasn’t found a scrap of anything— at least anything she can identify, and even then she won’t understand because the technology here is just too damn advanced.
It’s so amusing. She should laugh, actually. A prodigy, beasted in her own field, on her own territory. She’s going to— whatever it’s going to be— all because she can’t understand a damn thing here, doesn’t know this technology well enough just to bloody heal herself when she’s a bloody doctor—
it’s all so, so, so stupid, and Iris plasters a hand to her face to stifle a giggle.
(she ignores the dwindling meter with pressed wet eyes)
Something black pounds at the edge of her vision, but she elects to ignore it— as with everything else, it seems. Why should it matter, anyway? It’s all— meaningless. Foolish. It was fickle to even come here, she should’ve just— stayed outside, let those vile creatures devour her, perhaps what little she has for her could help someone else—
...someone’s here.
Iris blanches when she hears the voice, in the distance— perhaps a couple yards off, past a couple corners down the hall. She can’t tell. Can’t recognize him, it seems, but— the name.
But-- they shouldn’t be here— no one should be here, it’s all just a waste of time—
「Idiots…!」
It’s a boiling hiss, snarled from beneath her breath. Stupid stupid stupid—
「Don’t you understand that you— you shouldn’t be here…?!」
Iris’s legs wobble, grabbing fistfuls of sheets of the bed besides her as she stumbles back to her feet. She steadies herself, her eyes staring leveled at the door.
She pauses. Hesitates, for a moment.
And— she bursts from the room, streaking down the hall, away from the voices, her heels clicking like glass behind her.

* (Everything is dying all around me.)
* (What a novel sight, or it would be if I hadn’t been de-powered so much.)
* (It doesn’t matter. I have a handmade axe.)
* (I haven’t run into many other survivors. The ones I have were useless, better off dead and their supplies in more capable hands. It’s surprising how easily people trust and underestimate a child, even when they wield a bloody axe.)
* (I should build another one soon, or maybe a knife. They can be less messy… they’re also my favorite.)
* (A flash of pink hair catches my attention. That’s the girl Frisk had tried to befriend isn’t it? Unfortunately for her, he’s not here right now, but she seemed competent, maybe she’ll be useful.)
* I walk across the bloodied field in her direction giving a frantic wave.
* (My acting should be up to snuff. If not, well…)
* “I-Iris! Over here!”
* (She doesn’t have to be breathing to be helpful.)
She’s--
frantic.
She wipes sweaty palms off her creasing skirt, swallows something-- hard in her throat, but it lodges in her stomach and sinks deep into her insides, and--
Iris checks her information. She hopes that-- something’ll be different, somehow, that this has-- ended-- but she’s not surprised when she’s received with static and the three meters, once again.
Her hunger is dangerously low.
That’s not a good thing. Not that it isn’t obvious. Horrid that she has-- nothing now, not even her pistol, she’s locked out of everything and she’s too pathetic to-- just-- she doesn’t know, craft something up and just kill to survive instead of penting herself up in darkness as she watches her life whittle away.
But she’s a-- coward. Looks for other ways. Ransacking turns up nothing-- everything nearby are disgustingly vacant, and she can’t bring herself to leave and venture out. Plants are outside, and something rattles in her bones whenever she thinks of that option, but she suspects sometime soon she’s going to have to, if she’s going to survive. No one’s willing to work with her-- and maybe it’s her, too-- because she’s a kid, and-- she’s incompetent, because she’s a kid--
Dearest. She glaces at her sanity.
...she’ll have to work on that one too.
She’s standing on blood, and something reels back in her mind-- but she continues, because-- she’s got no other choice. Thinks she doesn’t, at least, but it isn’t as if she can just do something else. And--
A voice catches her attention.
Frisk...?
Puzzles. Friends. A way out.
Iris turns, joyous-- a way out a friend an ally someone I can work with I don’t have to be alone anymore-- and she stops.
...something’s off.
「 ...Frisk? Is... is that really you?」
Is it? She can’t be sure. Maybe it’s the sanity speaking for her-- thinking for her-- maybe she’s truly gone mad. Maybe it’s finally gotten to her and she’s seeing no one-- hearing no one-- but-- she needs to make sure.
...something’s off.

@watsonians
“Now that is a lot of pink. Going through a princess phase? It’s really cute.”
Ka-wink~! Even the little ladies get a taste of the ol’ Vasilias charm.
Neptune slides on over to her side and peers down at the girl from his impressive 6′3″ vantage point. He’s gonna cry if she’s actually some 40 year-old NEET living in his parents’ basement. One, that makes him look ridiculous; two, that’s so friggin’ creepy to think about. People should not be allowed to catfish on MMOs. Seriously.
Well. It’s not every day an adolescent male just-- waltzes right up and comments on her hair.
Frankly, Iris doesn’t know how to take the-- compliment-- insult-- ...comment. She feels an itch to point out his own blaring neon blue, though she suspects such a thing would be uncalled for when considering his... compliment. If being called cute is a compliment, now that she’s realizing she’s probably an outlier in this sea of twenty-first century technology and individuals, and that she isn’t entirely familiar with the jargon and slang of their people.
Iris feels like she’s old, and she’s only ten.
Regardless, it’s a perfectly natural and universal note to be polite, so Iris figures it’s best to go that way, and she preens down her skirt and shifts, slightly, before speaking.
「 Ahm. Well. If I may correct you, this is my natural hair color... and I don’t believe it’s any kind of phase, mister. I am a doctor, thank you very much!」
Yosuke’s not entirely sure he feels comfortable going into his fears with a 10 year old girl that he hardly knows. He hardly vents this sort of thing around his friends with the exception of Yu. Besides, whatever concerns that he has about being able to go home, Iris clearly didn’t share them. He should let her enjoy the novelty of the situation rather than reminding her of their inability to go home.
“It’s not really important.”
It does occur to him that it’s the first time in awhile that anyone’s asked for him to share his thoughts. A genuine smile starts reform at the sound of concern for him. The offer to talk is appreciated even if he doesn’t feel like taking it.
“But I guess you’re right. I’m in an MMO. Time travel isn’t far outside the range of possibility anymore. Still doesn’t explain what we’re doing here though.”
They are still a ways from the closest hub. Having a long drawn out discussion about his feelings in a dangerous area wasn’t the best idea. Focusing now back on the surroundings, he can start to hear other creatures roaming about. They don’t seem near enough to be a threat, but they might find themselves in a fight soon.
“Hey. Be on guard.”
「I am still rather uneducated when it comes to this MMO thing, though I suppose that’s a topic to tackle at a more… opportune time.」
Iris presses her lips together, moisturizing them slightly as she drags her gaze across the horizon, narrowing her eyes; she’s not lost her sense of awareness, and his mild sense of wariness hasn’t certainly been lost on her— in fact, she shares it, somewhat, and she squelches down her own bubbling unease with a quiet swallow. She’s got a pistol— a defensive-specialized attack— and who knows what Yosuke has up his sleeves, metaphorical or otherwise. She’s quite sure they’ll be fine, but, well, she’ll admit she’d certainly feel safer if she had her own polished trinkets and the such on hand instead of this rusty old pistol.
Nevertheless, however, Iris nods— dismisses that little protectiveness that’s resurfaced, once again— and pulls it out of her inventory.
「I will… certainly keep that in mind. But I could certainly try and hit one from here, if you think that’s appropriate. I’m quite a good shot. Though… I wouldn’t know how the others would react to that. I haven’t had enough time to exactly study these creatures’... behavioural patterns, though I suspect it’s more uniform than whatever we may experience back at our world, them being machines, and all. Advanced formulae and the such. Just have to calculate it, somehow.」
She pauses.
「...though such talk means nothing in a battle. Erm. You’re more qualified for this, correct? I’m afraid all of my experience gauges up to shooting at them from afar...」
i am, against popular belief, actually and miraculously alive. just... a little dead. school’s been hectic-- more so than usual-- but i... think it’s been letting up for a bit! so i definitely think i’ll be returning from that... hiatus-esque disappearance.
anyway! here’s an ad for the newest event! capping at two, for the moment. i will also be replying to stuff tomorrow, so look out for that!
* You give her a patient smile.
* “Mysteries are cool. I read them sometimes when I got the chance.”
* (Some people would also classify the underground and its secrets as mysterious, but you loved it anyway.)
* “They are, like a good logic riddle… Well when all the clues are provided of course.”
* (She looks so nervous and you feel guilty all of a sudden. There’s no unhug option in this game is there? Maybe she’s just like you, with limited experience on interacting with human children your own age.)
* (Hurrah for kindred spirits?)
* “It’s ok, I haven’t been exploring much either. But yeah.. making friends is always fun.”
* (You remember your platonic date with Papyrus and your cooking lesson with Undyne and your smile grows bigger.)
* “My name’s Frisk. Just Frisk. Nice to meet you Iris.”
「Frisk! What a lovely name... oh, and I’m quite glad I’m not alone in that.」
She’s not very good at this, typically, and the progress she’s making now is rather encouraging, to say the least.
「Aah...! How curious! I-- I write mysteries myself, actually! Novels-- series of novels-- have you heard of the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes? I’d-- I’d show them to you, of course, but... ah. I’m not sure if that’s entirely possible...」
Hrmph. What a disappointing let-down. Iris frowns, and crosses her arms, looking faintly distressed. She’d tell them to him-- if she had her manuscripts, of course. She has a good memory-- but not that good of a memory. Unfortunately.
「I know some puzzles, though...! If you’re willing to hear them, of course. Some riddles, and the such. I make them up to pass the time, sometimes... hm, would you like to hear one?」
jiraiyagaru:
“I’m going with the most likely scenario given what I know! Time travel isn’t possible in my time. That’s just way too scifi. And this is a roleplay server.” Yosuke wasn’t a detective, but he didn’t think that his assessment of the situation was without any basis. It made the most sense for his world view. Then again, being in an mmo didn’t really fit that. And neither did the supernatural prior to a year ago.
He has no contact to the outside world to confirm what’s going. It’s mostly just Iris’ word at this point. He has no real reason to distrust other even if the implications of all this are highly distressing. Maybe he is just believing what he wants to believe because it’s easier to digest. It wouldn’t be the first time that he fell into that trap.
She’s so determined to prove herself, wanting him to ask questions about nineteenth century England. He’s pretty sure that’s not a subject that they spent a lot of time. And if they had, he probably would have slept through it. He shakes head. “I don’t even know what to ask you.”
Running a hand through his hair, he tries to regain composure. “Alright. I’ll assume what you’re saying is true, but aren’t you worried that… nevermind. Let’s just keep going.” He doesn’t need to bother her with his concerns.
「And I don’t suppose this hyper-immersion— apologies if my theorized term is incorrect— technology is ‘way too scifi’ as well? From my own standpoint, if such technology as the one presented before us is entirely feasible and is already possible for testing with human subjects— as proven just before us— then I don’t think time travel is entirely implausible.」
Iris gives him something of a calculating look— before she huffs something prideful, something annoyed, propping her wrists on her hips and leaning back, thoroughly miffed. And he didn’t even have any questions for her…! Her steps become a little more like marching, now, and she whiffs a breath, smooths down her dress, shakes out her feet in an attempt to preen down her, well, rather hypothetical yet very much ruffled feathers. Notwithstanding her still-current lack of understanding over the term “roleplay server”, she’s quite sure she’s correct in her assumption. If only there was a way to prove it to him…
It’s almost lost in her thought and what she observes as his own whiff of irritation and his attempt to iron it out himself, but she catches the unspoken question before it’s lost into the recesses of mumbled conversation and unspoken words.
「...’worried that...?’ Worried about what? Don’t ‘nevermind’ me— I’d like to hear what’s on your mind, especially if may be important.」
* You cock your head to the side slightly.
* “You’re not sure?”
* (Of course then it hits you that not everyone has the same definition of fun. After all Aaron that horse guy thought flexing his muscles was fun while most everyone else thought it was ridiculous. You humored him.)
* You frown at your former assumption.
* “I think lots of things are fun… Puzzles are fun. Cooking is fun. Telling bad jokes is fun.”
* (Not that you’d ever admit that last one to sans, not out loud or in front of papyrus anyway.)
* “But I guess… I wanna know what you find fun here… So I can try it? I like trying new things.”
* (Your words sound more like you’re reasoning the whole situation out loud, which you sort of are. Strange, since you are normally a silent thinker.)
「Really now? Well... what about mysteries? Mysteries are quite wonderful, you know…! Writing them is one thing, I suppose, but having a hand in one is quite the experience, I must say— and I doubt they have many typewriters here, much less a use for them… but, they’re like puzzles, almost, don’t you think…?」
Iris shuffles her feet, unable to look her companion in the eye, instead directing them at her feet as if they’re somehow more intriguing than the conversation before her. She finds herself uncharacteristically… uncomfortable? No— that’s too strong. A bit… distressing, almost. In a way. She’s worried that this isn’t normal, that this isn’t natural for a ten year old. Before it’s nothing she had to worry about— never even met another, in fact, instead being admired by her social peers and fussing over work and Sherlock— but she’s thrown into the kind of situation she should be comfortable in, quite frankly, and she feels a bit… on edge, almost.
Erk. Not very good. At least she could learn from this experience, yes…?
「But, well… I haven’t explored much, really, so I wouldn’t know… hm. Maybe… maybe getting to know each other would be fun…? A friend of mine back home introduced herself and we had a lot of fun at supper…! Oh! So! Well… my name is Iris Watson! And you are…?」
@watsonians
* (Finally, you spot someone around your age…? You think so anyway. Her hair’s a wild color.)
* (Maybe she was a type of monster?)
* You shrug and start walking, stick sheathed in your pocket.
* (It didn’t matter either way. You just wanted a friendly conversation.)
* “Hi… Um. Have you found anything fun?”
* (You realize it’s been a while since you’ve interacted with another human child. Oops. )
Why— Iris was almost sure she was the only one her age, here.
The other child seems… calm, enough, with perpetually closed eyes and something of a serenity splayed across a rather neutral expression, and— Iris isn’t entirely sure how to take it. Hasn’t spoken much to other children her age— always pent up with her typewriter, or solving cases with Sherlock, or speaking to other graduates about medicine, or biology, or developments in their field… but, she’s been raised to be polite, so Iris smiles— politely, small, friendly— and raises her eyebrows at the question.
「Anything... fun?」
It’s a dreadfully simple question, but it wagers more thought than she’d expect it to. Eliesium is tiring, yes, it’s a bit overwhelming, yes, it’s a bit of a challenge, yes— but… fun? Iris can’t say she knows much of the definition of ‘fun’ — if it’ll match up with another child’s opinions, and she feels a bit, well, almost disturbed, at that. That isn’t normal, is it?
Hm.
「...well, I’m not sure.」
Iris feels uncertain, and fingers her pistol out of habit, in an attempt to keep her hands occupied, for the moment. She scurries frantically through her thoughts, frowns tight as she’s not entirely able to come up with something feasible.
「What… what do you think is fun? I— I do not have much experience in that, I’m afraid...」
Is dissecting frogs and studying their vital organs and their functions fun? Iris thinks it’s certainly interesting— enjoys the discernment, the picking apart, the discovering and getting to know the exact how’s— but, she doubts other children her age would agree with that.
@watsonians
“Maria-chooop!” The small girl whacked yet another enemy, shouting out a ridiculous name like she was in an anime or something…. Shame on you, Maria, aren’t you a witch? Ah, but she was having fun with this game.
“Mariaaaa-choooop! Uryuu!” Whack! She chopped at something else with her wooden staff. But that creature, at the moment, decided to hop away. And so, Maria missed, her motion carrying her too far. She ended up falling, landing at another player’s feet. “U-uu– Maria messed up…”
Iris doesn’t mind having other players within her vicinity— not even when they are, rather blatantly, eliminating the same mods as she is— as she’s learned that surviving in Eliesium isn’t like in the real world, and loopholes can be exploited on a rather satisfying basis. Doesn’t understand this computer or code thing entirely, yet— but she’s figured they’re nothing more than fancy machines with fancy theorems and mathematics, regardless of the way they’re presenting themselves in vivid colors and very real sensations. She can be as frugal as she wish, so she sees no real point in being excessive. Perhaps that was the point of the game but, oh, well. Iris does as she wishes.
Her not-really-companion’s rather loud, though, and Iris feels a bit of an inkling of irritation— one she ignores, because it’s fickle to put good thought into such things, but when she lands just before her feet in a flurry of arms and legs, high-pitched screaming and tangled hair, Iris jumps, startled, unable to withhold a bit of a yelp of her own.
「Wh— ! Be more careful, with that!」
She can’t have other players splayed about the ground as blaring targets for these creatures— for herself or otherwise! A pity Iris’s too small to simply pluck her right up and despite her elsewhere— seems she has to find a compromise, there, somehow. Iris blows something irritated from her nostrils, and cocks her pistol, for a moment, and plucks at the trigger— and blows a hole right into the creature just before her.
Hmph. It’s a bit dirty, she thinks as it poofs out of existence, though like that matters here. Unfortunate how she can’t study the things, though. What she’d give to do just that...
“No, I meant everyone.”
Yosuke really hopes that ‘everyone’ is accurate here. After all, if time travel was possible, it could mean that he’s found himself even further in the future. Further away from home. It would certainly explain the technology, but maybe this was possible in his current time. And he was just some strange unethical and illegal test subject.
“Disconcerting? More like terrifying.”
Even if he could logout, it meant that he didn’t know what world he would be going back to. It was a complete mystery as to what was happening beyond this digital world. Maybe there was no home anymore. He really can’t handle thinking about that right now.
“Roleplay server. Because games like this have different servers, and some allow roleplay and others don’t. Roleplaying is pretending to be someone you’re not. That’s what you’re doing, right? This isn’t real, right?!”
His voice is starting to get a few octaves higher. It’s probably not good to panic in front of small children, but he can’t help himself right now.
「Suffice to say, Mr Yosuke, making such narrow-minded assumptions without hard-proof evidence is a dangerous, dangerous thing. After all, you’re not the only one from your relative ‘future’. Why— not too long ago I stumbled across a fellow player who came from the seventeenth-century— three hundreds before myself! If I have to comment, that is like, hm— Shakespeare compared to you, isn’t it?」
Iris crosses her arms, a bit stubbornly, rather pridefully. There was no need to fear! Frankly, she finds his reaction rather childish, immature. Shouldn’t something like this should be exciting? Buzzing? Exhilarating? The idea of time travel— technology in the future must’ve progressed so much further...! Obviously he seems distraught at the idea of time traveling, so Eliesium must come from further than that, shouldn’t it…? Regardless— he should be excited, not terrified! Are all twenty-first century youth so narrow minded?
Ignoring her blatant and utter inability to completely comprehend his words pertaining the existence of these ‘roleplay servers’, she’s going to give him her what-for.
「And I must say, I take very much offence to that…! I am quite sure I am Iris Watson, inventor and medical practitioner, assistant to the great detective Sherlock Holmes! Why— give me something I would know! You must learn history, do you not? From what I gather twenty-first century Earth must have better international communication and relations, mustn’t it? So— go on! Ask me something about my country from before the year nineteen-hundred— I’ll answer it to you, personally!」
wow hey, this is late. but hey! fashionably late as always.
intro under the cut because i rant, hahaha.
“What.”
Twentieth century London, England. The words buzz around in Yosuke’s head a bit, but his brain completely refuses to process them. While his concept of the world may include a world inside the TV, it did not include things like time travel. This was a little much. He only just got over the fact that he was dealing with a 10 year old. She couldn’t just claim to be a time traveller too.
He mostly stares at her in response to her deducing him to be from twenty-first century Japan. He was the normal one here, so he figures that should be the default assumption. “Ummm… yeah… But that’s not a hard guess! That’s the time period where everyone’s from, right?!”
Jithrill said something about roleplay. He was clearly on a RP server. Maybe she was just roleplaying because he really doesn’t want to think about what it possibly means if what she’s saying is completely true. The only other possibility was that the girl was completely confused upon getting here. However, while he might not remember how he got here or long stretches of time prior to that, he still knows where he’s from and who he is. So he decides that it’s probably the former
“I… um… you’re pulling my leg, right? I know this is a RP server and all, but I’m not really into doing that sort of thing. So you can stop now.”
「If you don’t mind correcting you, I think you’re using the word ‘everyone’ incorrectly...」
At least she’s got a confirmation. So... 2000′s? How fascinating! So time traveling becomes possible, then...? Curious. Wait-- there was a book on time traveling to the 2000′s, wasn’t there? ‘Golf in the Year 2000′... hm. Iris faintly wonders if J. MucCullough’s book is anything accurate, though she doubts he’d know what that is.
But what he says next puzzles her. “RP server”? He mentions what she suspects is a future idiom (and the linguist inside of her squeals in delight), something about ‘doing that sort of thing’ --
「I’m afraid I don’t know what you’re talking about...? Doing what? Speaking the truth? I understand the fact that me being from the past compared to you can be disconcerting, I suppose, but I don’t know exactly what you mean ‘doing that sort of thing’... does it have to do with this “RP server”? Is this what this is called, then?」
Iris doesn’t like this feeling of confusion, of being utterly lost in this conversation. But-- well, she supposes she doesn’t have much of a choice, in this case.
/ alices_wonders: –Ah, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop or anything, but what’s this about hats? As always, Swallow was a little slow on the uptake of things around here.
/ swallowcratsvally: Not too sure myself.
/ swallowcratsvally: A... ‘quest’? Of some sort? Fighting these creatures at the locations mentioned will merit these ‘hats’.
/ swallowcratsvally: Looks rather intriguing, though...!
「 I come from twentieth-century London, England-- and I’m quite sure it’s certainly allowed there. Wouldn’t have gotten to school there if it wasn’t...」
Back home, this was a question she tackled wholeheartedly, perhaps even a little egotistically (though no one really knew, because who’d expect such a face to be anything aside humble?), but here? -- Iris can’t be entirely sure, because she’s learned that people here come from different cultures, different worlds: isn’t entirely sure how they’ll take such news.
His surprise isn’t anything worth of note, but his alarm? There’s a vague, uncertain self-consciousness to it-- one she’s not entirely comfortable with, admittedly, and for once, she feels rather... sheepish. Embarrassed, almost.
「But-- where do you come from? Japan, right? Your name certainly fits that... and you must come from the future from the language and technology you use and seem to be familiar with, but-- not too far, because language hasn’t evolved enough yet to make too unrecognizable changes... a hundred years, maybe? Or is the twenty-first century too far...? Perhaps not...」
