Headlight Lens Optics in Blender Cycles
So I searched for some time a while back on the best way to do this. Even though it ended up being pretty much what I thought, it struck me that I didn’t easily find a concisely explained solution for this, so my intent is to provide one here. This may not be a complete solution, based on your needs, but it’s at least a ground-work.
I started by making a bump map for the lens. I used a reference image since my project was an actual car:
I then mapped the bump texture to the lens using the following node setup:
This is the result in material view-port shading:
And the result rendered:
