Fun Aurora fact: on the character page, Tess's pronouns are given in a slightly larger font than everyone else's. Tell them girl
(Not sure how well this image displays it. It's pretty easy to see on the webpage.)
today at work i rung up a customer and the total was 12.30 and i said “12:30, reminds me of a clock :)” and they kind of smiled at me with confusion and i was like “like the time on a clock, just reminds me of it… 12:30” and they said “i have no idea what you’re talking about…” with an expression of supreme pity and gentleness. after that was finished i turned to my coworker next to me and said “i just bombed so hard with this clock comment” and then realized the customer hadn’t moved and was still standing right next to me. if my fate continues down this path, the customer will probably read this tumblr post as well
NOVELTY DICEMAKER - "That'll be 12.30."
CONCEPTUALIZATION [Medium: Success] - Like the hands of a clock! What a number. She needs to know what serendipity she just spoke.
RHETORIC - What the hell are you talking about?
YOU - "12:30! Reminds me of a clock." (Smile knowingly.)
NOVELTY DICEMAKER - She smiles back at you in polite confusion.
EMPATHY [Challenging: Success] - There is nothing she can say. How would you respond normally if someone said this to you?
CONCEPTUALIZATION [Legendary] - She doesn't understand. Make her understand.
⚁⚀ CHECK FAILURE
CONCEPTUALIZATION [Legendary: Failure] - It's like a clock. You know this fundamentally. It cannot be expressed in any simpler way. Say it again.
YOU - "Like the time on a clock, just reminds me of it... 12:30." (Just keep smiling knowingly.)
NOVELTY DICEMAKER - "I have no idea what you're talking about..." Her eyebrows crease.
EMPATHY [Medium: Success] - Supreme pity and gentleness.
YOU - Commiserate with Kim.
REACTION SPEED [Challenging: Failure] - No! Wait--
YOU - (Turn to Kim.) "Man, I just bombed so hard with this clock comment."
KIM KITSURAGI - "Er--" The lieutenant inclines his head fractionally, willing you to notice something.
YOU - Turn your head.
NOVELTY DICEMAKER - She hasn't moved. The woman sits exactly where she was two seconds ago, incomprehension growing as the moment drags on.
DAMAGED MORALE
I like Suressa more every time they get drawn. Don't worry little buddy if you just stay on top of everything all the time and keep your professional face on everything will be fine 👍
i finished reading annihilation
Aurora doesn't do this very much but I like that the Void Dragon is called different names by different groups of characters. Erin and presumably the Academy call him the Void Dragon, but the Paladins are very consistent in calling him the Dark Dragon. Sounds really similar but I don't think these are interchangeable, because Erin always uses "Void" and the Paladins always use "Dark". This is really obvious when Erin talks to Theia.
And if you think about it, these names obviously reflect different groups' relationship with the Dragon. To the Academy, he's a hypothetical explanation for the Void element, and to the Paladins he's the equal and opposite of the Light Dragon. Both names contain information about the reason the character is called that! It's a subtle way to add texture to the fiction. (Honestly I kind of wish he wasn't called the Void Dragon in paratext like the comic's characters page, to avoid privileging one name over the other, but then he doesn't seem to call himself anything.) Anyway, more fictional things should be given different names by different groups of people.
