A quick analysys of Ten’s and Winwin’s choreography to the remix of “lovely”
Ok, so at the beginning we see the boys standing at opposite sides of the room with their backs turned. Between them is a wooden pillar. Ten is dressed in white – which is often connected with purity, innocence and goodness. Next to him is half of a tree. He is contrasted with Winwin, who is dressed in black, a color often associated with death, grief and evil. He also has a half of a tree standing next to him, with the difference that it’s dead.
They turn to each other and it’s revealed that the pillar is in fact a mirror. Both of them seem to be surprised and curious about each other. This seemes to be a metaphor for a person discovering the two sides of themself – the so called “good” (white) and “bad” (black) side. They’re dancing in sync, until Ten starts to fight Winwin. At this moment the mirror disappears. Ten seems to try to kill Winwin. This can be easily interpreted as the good side fighting for dominance over the bad one.
At this point their fighting over dominance – their dancing is still pretty similar, but it has differences. This shows how one person is in conflict with themselves, how they are trying to be good, not to make mistakes, not to have flaws, not to let anybody see their bad side. It is important to note, that Ten, the “good side” is in the foreground – symbolizing that the person is good on the surface, but still has some evil in them.
Next, we can see Winwin going to the good side of the room, bending down and Ten reaching out his hand into the sky. This shows, once again, that he is the good side, since heaven is supposed to be up in the sky, and y’know, heaven, angels, all the good stuff. He is winning the fight. While he is reaching up his hand, we can hear the lyrics “Isn’t it lovely, all alone” showing, once again, that the person wants to only have the good side inside them. This is followed by Winwin holding his throat, looking almost defeated.
After that, they’re dancing completely out of sync for a while, until Ten reaches both of his hands up. Winwin also reaches one of his hands afterwards, but he is not looking up. After that they start dancing the same poses in complete sync, then their poses start to mirror each other.
This is interrupted by an empty gunshot sound. At this moment, WInwin is reaching his hand to Ten, who is holding his head. He is clearly scared. This symbolizes that the person has done something bad and is afraid that the bad side has won – that they’re killed the goodness inside them. But the gunshot was empty – the good side is still alive. We see Ten being surprised by this fact. He was so sure that the bad side would kill him.
Afterwards Winwin comes closer to Ten and hugs him softly. The final shot shows both of them in front of the tree, which is now united. They’re standing no their opposite sides – Winwin is on the good one and Ten is on the bad one. This symbolizes their acceptance and their union – a person has a little bad and a little of good inside them, and no action will kill either one. The fact that Winwin is standing on the good side and vice versa shows, that nothing is completely good or evil. It is a metaphor of a person coming to terms with themselves, accepting their flaws. You should not fear yourself; you should love yourself (BTS joke not intended).
