Don’t fucking call the cops on people in mental crises.
some invasive worms I found in Florida!
first is a Caenoplana sp., a flatworm now found across the tropics but which is likely native to Australia (or nearby). they feed on arthropods, including isopods.
next is Bipalium vagum, the Wandering Hammerhead Flatworm. its specific name alludes to the fact that it too has spread itself throughout the tropics. its close relatives in the US are also probably native to East Asia, but while those eat only earthworms, B. vagum feeds on only snails. Bipalium are known to produce tetrodotoxin, a nasty poison responsible for the toxicity of fugu pufferfish.
third is an Anisorhynchodemus sp., and its original distribution is also unknown. the genus it’s placed in is essentially a wastebasket—all the rhynchodemine flatworms that can’t be connected with an older, outdated classification method get lumped there. these guys are predators of arthropods, and also love sucking isopods out of their shells. when seized, they cleave their own rears off; the biggest one I have failed to autotomize its tail completely and now has two tails (not pictured).
despite a similar appearance, the last isn’t a flatworm, but an entire different phylum of animals! the nemertean (ribbon worm) Geonemertes pelaensis is just one of 13 species of nemertean that live on land with the remaining 1,300 living in saltwater. and, you guessed it, it’s native to *somewhere in the Indopacific* and is now found all over the tropics because of humans transporting it accidentally with soil. it is a predator of small arthropods, including spiders and isopods, which it captures with a sticky, venomous projectile proboscis. good video of that on its Wikipedia page.
so yeah that’s my worms. hope you like the worms
bonus photos! this Geonemertes is twice the length of my other one (about 9cm fully extended). they’re such photogenic little goobers, but seem shy about eating in captivity.
and a baby Anisorhynchodemus, with cute little googly eyes. as much as I love alien bipaliine crescent-faces, the snout + peepers look of rhychodemines is simply irresistible.
they look so adorable! how hard are they to keep as pets? can we find them in europe?
I've only successfully maintained Anisorhynchodemus for over a year in captivity. Europe has some bipaliines that are invasive, and other flatworms like Obama and a few Australian ones can be found in temperate climates, but these species are tropical so perhaps only in greenhouses (A. sp. has been seen in a greenhouse the Netherlands I think).
however, I'm not sure if I want anyone other than a few curious scientists keeping them as pets. as invasive species with great potential to impact native wildlife, they should probably be killed on sight and never released. if for some reason they got popular to keep, and they started getting spread around by that... not good
even when i am not there i hope you feel my presence next to you at all times <3333
i am always watching over you my dear
Love didn’t hurt you. Someone who doesn’t know how to love you hurt you. Don’t confuse the two.

i want to heal. it’s hard to do in toxic environments. people think healing is just therapy and working on urself but it’s not. if ur in a toxic environment you make progress and then you keep taking steps back, and it’s not as simple as just moving out. some people don’t have money, some people are disabled, some people are stuck in abusive toxic places. people think it’s easy to just heal but u don’t get it. it’s easy for u to say if u live in a healthy environment

I love my mutuals, but I don’t really care for the ‘specialness’ associated with them. want to send me an ask off anon? do it. want to tag me in a post? do it. follower, mutual, or just random person who stumbled across my blog: I crave interaction and literally do not mind.
THIS. The inherent cliques formed is so weird, like pls message me, send me an ask, pls don’t think that just because we normally don’t talk, I won’t reply
babish bigot embarrassment
Some folks think stuff like this is about who you offend, but it's just as much if not more about who you embolden. If you tell racist jokes because you think the people whom you offend with them just need to grow thicker skin, for example, maybe you'll care more about the white supremacist who now thinks you're his friend.
And so it is with the fucking wizard game. You can say whatever you like about "remaining neutral" or "not getting involved" or "just trying to have fun", but at the end of the day, you're signalling to bigots that you're a friend to them and that you share their beliefs. Literal nazis have been showing up at anti-trans rallies, TERFs have been quoting fucking Mein Kampf at their gatherings, and they're just delighted to see you playing the fucking wizard game. They'll be nodding to each other and patting each other on the back for having spotted another of their own in the wild whether you share their bigotry or not.
But it's up to you, of course.
like the one thing you have to remember when it comes to bigots like terfs, nazis and the far right is that they believe they're simply saying what everyone else is thinking, and when they see you do stuff like playing the wizard game, you confirm that belief for them more and more.
there is no neutrality with people like that.
Random Fact # 3,591
Why can't humans eat raw meat without getting sick but other animals can?
Humans CAN eat raw meat.
It has to be properly handled and stored, but we can totally eat raw meat.
Some examples of dishes that contain raw meat at the end of preparation include:
Carpaccio (Italy) - Extremely thin slices of raw sirloin beef
Carne cruda all’albese (Italy) - Slices of raw veal marinated in lemon juice and served with Parmesan
Kitfo (Ethiopia) - Raw minced beef flavoured with a chili powder and spiced clarified butter
Mett (Germany) - Minced pork spread
Gored Gored (Ethiopia/Eritrea) - Unflavoured raw cubes of beef with buttered flatbread
Koi Soi (Thailand) - Finely chopped or ground lean beef is marinated with plenty of fish sauce, garlic, lime juice, chillies, and herbs
Steak Tartare (France) - Raw minced or chopped beef formed into a patty and served with a raw egg yolk on top
Yukhoe (South Korea) - Beef sliced into matchsticks and trimmed of any fat, then tenderised in a marinade of soy sauce, sugar and sesame oil and flavoured with garlic, spring onions and sesame seeds
Raw Kibbeh/Quibe (Lebanon/Brazil) - Ground meat, minced onions, spices, and bulgur, often served with olive oil and flatbread
Basashi (Japan) - Horse sashimi
Here are what they look like in the order mentioned above:
"But other animals don't need to be careful about how they store and handle the meat and don't get sick!"
False.
It's very common for predators to get parasites from eating raw flesh, they just don't have another option. It's so common, in fact, that it's a large part of why we tend to avoid eating carnivores; it's much harder to keep them healthy.
It's not that they can do something we can't, but rather that they're a bit better at it than we are.
And that's because of evolution... and stomach acid.
Because we've been cooking meat for a very very long time, our stomach hasn't needed to become quite as sturdy as, say, a vulture's (who primarily eats rotten meat).
The reason a vulture's stomach is able to handle rotten meat and ours can't mostly has to do with how acidic their stomach acid is. Very few parasites can survive that level of acidity, which means the vulture has a higher chance of remaining healthy.
POV you have just lifted a rock or perhaps a log in a Indonesian peat swamp

•A Masterlist of Indigenous/Native American Resources and Sites•
lunastre_draconis | Indigenous Resources Masterlist
•Greetings, I’ve been working on a project to compile every single reputable indigenous/Native American resource that exists on the web. At the time of writing this post, the list is a work in progress. If you happen to know a site or resource that wasn’t added in this list, please feel free to private message with a link to the site you want added. Additionally, if you see a site that you feel needs to be removed, you can also feel free to private message detailing your concern. I would greatly appreciate if this post and the list was shared around, not only because it has taken months to create, though also so all the valuable information compiled in the list can reach as many as possible!
