I love dressage and all but YIKES Please be gentle with horses necks. Even though rollkur is permitted doesn’t make it kind
First of all, this picture is correct af and in no way rough. Secondly, rollkur is not permitted. Third this horse, an iberian breed, has a thing called a crest. It’s a deposit if fat above the neck structure. It makes the neck look more rounded than it is but if you look at the neck muscle you can still see that the poll is the highest point. Please do some googling before making inflammatory comments.
First of all, does that horse look comfortable? No. It looks trained, but certainly not comfortable. Second of all, rollkur is indeed permitted AND encouraged in the points system of dressage. It doesn’t seem that you have ever been to a dressage show.
Can’t believe I have to explain something so basic but w/e
Here is rollkur:
Here is a horse who is ‘on the bit’/’on the vertical’S:
Here is what a Lusitano/Iberian breed looks like (i.e., they have a crest)
compared to a warmblood (Lord Leatherdale):
For simplicity’s sake, here I’ve outlined the neck muscles for you:
Now under saddle here I have drawn the lines so you can see that the poll is actually still the highest point:
In Summary:
PS Also note that the Lusitano’s rider’s hands have more give in them than either of these two horses. The horse looks comfortable af. You’re merely suffering from an illusion because of the crest. And even if that was his natural neckline, it’s still not rollkur. The horse’s nose is still before the vertical, rather than touching their chest. Maybe you’re confusing ‘behind the vertical’ with rollkur - but even then this horse’s nose is in front of the vertical so basically idk what you’re smoking. The FEI has also voiced that hyperflexion/rollkur is unacceptable in the ring and only allowed for max 10 minutes in the warmup ‘if achieved without the use of force’ [X].
Also ja pencilled (scribed, whatever you want to call it) up to PSG and literally have written down ‘dropping poll, 5.0′ for the judges when a horse drops even a little bit so that the poll is no longer the highest. Literally no judge is going to reward a horse who is that deep. Even any dipping behind the vertical in a stretchy trot is punished. Just because riders are able to get away with it in the warmup and home doesn’t mean they’re actively being rewarded for it in the ring. Yes the people who practise it are getting too high marks in the ring. But as a judge you are not supposed to think about anything but what is presented to you that day. For the same reason someone shouldn’t go ‘that horse was ridden beautifully at Olympia/X event so I’ll ignore the fact it’s bucking like mad today’, because they only judge what’s in front of them. Horses are marked according to the training scale, and on nowhere is there a pillar titled ‘rollkur’.
What I want: custom hunter green Charles Ancona, custom equifits, custom Samshield, and every colored Tailored Sportsmans.
What I can afford: maybe a salt lick.
