It’s been a while now since I really hurt. Not like your feet throbbing after a day in heels. Not like a headache the morning after. But really, truly, hurt.

It’s been a while since I really felt like my mind was being torn apart, like I’d never stop feeling so broken, since I held onto a pillow so tightly and froze, lifelessly, waiting for the rest of the tears to pour out. Since I felt hopeless and helpless and ruined. 

It’s been so long because I stopped letting toxic men, and troublesome friends, into my life.

It’s also because I stopped letting the toxic version of myself, into my life.
