Brighton born three-piece LOM combine their love of folk, soul and pop to create songs centred around the rich vocal harmonies of the two sisters and the finger picking style of Owen’s acoustic guitar. They write songs that merge the past with the present with strong themes of family, nature and childhood.
Growing up in a rich musical environment, from an early age Leila and Millie would sing together, inspired and encouraged by their dad, the lead singer and songwriter of the new wave band Fischer-Z. Owen, a self taught musician who met Leila at college in Brighton, began to develop his unique style of acoustic guitar with instrumental performances at open mic nights whilst studying at university in Falmouth, alongside the likes of Ben Howard and Tall Ships.
It was in 2013 whilst all attending a Bon Iver gig, supported by the Staves, they were so inspired by the combination of the blood harmonies and acoustic guitar of the opening act that they decided then and there that they should start their own musical endeavour and LOM was born.
All three are creatives – Owen is an award-winning illustrator, Leila works as a designer and maker, and Millie runs community music projects and classes.
Their music is inspired by a wide range of influences, citing Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, Joanna Newsom, José González, Laura Marling and Yann Tiersen to name only a few.
