It was Helen’s first morning.
And it was still so early, but things were going well so far she’d say. She’d seen her kids and Bob off that morning, making sure all four were ready for the day, and she made it to Town Hall thirty minutes early. It gave her enough time to get her new work space organized to her liking, and get properly settled. From there, it was easy.
She’d done this song and dance many times, and her years of working for the NSA had made her very – flexible.
So when a extravagantly dressed woman walked in - Mrs. De Vil, she believed, she didn’t flinch. The description she’d gotten of her was spot on to the imposing figure that walked right up to her desk. Deadly heel clicks and all.
Looks like this was another day Helen would have to swallow her pride. But that didn’t mean she’d be a doormat. So, she looked up from her typing, and gave the sweetest smile she could muster up for the woman. “Mrs. De Vil, I’m assuming? Sorry to disappoint, but the last receptionist resigned over the weekend. Something about fear for her safety, I believe. I’m her replacement, and I’ve been informed that getting your coffee is not apart of my job.”
She held out her hand over the desk, chin raised up. “Helen Parr, by the way. Glad to be working with you.”
Well, of course she resigned. The woman was beyond weak. That was why Cruella liked her so much, whatever her name had been. At least she had that going for her. This woman? She seemed... average. She probably had two or three average-looking kids and drove them to football practice before having wine with other average-looking women in someone’s living room.
“Ah, yes, well... She was incapable of doing things right, so I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. It’d appear you’re rather confident, so... I hope that reflects on the rest of your work, darling,” Cruella said, tilting her head as she looked down at the other woman.
She glanced at the extended hand as if it were a hissing snake or something, but eventually reached out to shake it. “Ah, glad to make your acquaintance, Helen, dear. It’s always a pleasure to have a confident new face working for me. I do hope you enjoy your time here, short or long as it may be.”
